Congrats on getting this put together, Mike.

Shame there can be only one winner.

Sorry, SVB. May you miscue often.:sorry:

This is a great event, I would love to be able to watch in person.. Thanks for getting this together.

It will be very interesting to see if Earl can exact revenge for the first challenge...he certainly has a good "support system" now thanks to Mike.

I'm excited about the match too, but calling these two "world's greatest player" and "people's champion" seem a bit USA centric to me. ;-)

I sponsored him in the first Earl Shane match. I did not like the outcome. I will behind Earl win or loose.

Well, this event gives Earl the opportunity to knock one of those names of your list. :) Maybe he'll take on the rest of the list if he takes this one down?!?!? Sounds like the JA match is imminent too!

world's greatest 9-ball player

Nothing against many of the top players of the USA and the world - but Earl Strickland has been pretty much accepted as the strongest 9-ball player that has ever played the game.

Five US Open championships plus a slew of world titles.

In time, some of the others might catch Earl on titles - but no one had the top gear that Earl had.

So. . . I think it is proper to call Earl 'the World's Greatest Player' (when referring to 9-ball.

Let's see how the other names on everyone's list and lips hold up over close to 30 years on the tournament trails.

Johnny Archer, Mika, Appleton, Shane the list goes on before you get to Earl.

The title 'worlds greatest' is always debateable, people more often than not, try to make a case for their favorite player.

Whatever you think of Earl and some of the stupid things he's said and done and there have been too many for this post , there is no doubting that he would have to be in the running for the title 'one of the greatest players of all time'.

Personally I think it's too difficult to pick these days, so many factors come into play. For instance Darren Appleton is playing as well as anyone in the World right now, but I'd back my 'favorite' players Johnny Archer and Dennis Hatch (and to to be fair plenty of other US players) to beat him in say a race to 100. Would I back Johnny and Dennis to beat him in a Tournament situation, Yes I would, but they are my favorite players.

What I would say is thanks for getting it together, the more of these sort of matches the better our profile will be as a sport.

I don't know about that.....I'll bet there was an earthquake that may have been pretty close.

Mr Griffin, do you really think that Earl is the greatest player in the world right now? He is gonna get robbed on the Shane match which is gonna be devastating for him since he has been saying that nobody can beat him on the 5x10 then comes the Archer match and he will prob get robbed there too. This will be really bad for the Peal and his ego.

Earl won all of those world events on a 9'er. So, why is he switching up to a 10'er?

Heck, you should have Diamond make a 10x20'er. Maybe he'll REALLY dominate then ;)

You know I'm teasing :) I think Earl is the best living player record-wise, but certainly not playing-wise. Those are two different conversations. I don't think there's a person other than Mike in the entire world or AZB who thinks Earl is a better player than Shane.

If the question of who the best player NOW is came up on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and Mike polled the audience.... it'd be 99% Shane, 1% Earl.

Not knocking, just stating fact :)

TGIF ;)

Earl will play all of them on the 5x10, lets line em up.
But what happens when he gets beat on that table by the first person who steps up for that match on that table?? I mean what if?? Do you think he will say the table was bad? or make some other reason he lost? Or will he gracefully say "Ok, I was wrong" ??

Then if Archer or Appleton or Mika take the challenge and beat him? This may not work in his favor.

No matter what he says the next match can be signed up right now. If he losers to Shane then we can play Johnny or Mika or Darren or whoever wants some of this 10 foot challenge. I don't see anyone else wanting to play Earl on this table, do you.

When Earl Loses to Shane this 5x10 deal will go away. Whats the point, Earl is the only one who says he is unbeatable on this table, so when shane beats him its end of disscussion. Why bother anyone else playing him? he will already have shown the world that he isn't unbeatable on this table. Pointless and dangerous for the Pearl. JMO

Why isn't anyone else stepping up, are they that unsure of how good Earl could possibly be on that table.
