Glen - "Diamondizing" a Valley?

Just out of sheer curiosity, have you ever done this? Is it even possible? I'm wondering if you can make a 7' Valley play like Diamond Smart Table (minus the fancy cue ball detection system).

For $4000 I can make your Valley look and play just like a Diamond:D

Already did...with the ridgebackrails;)

Ridgeback Rails for valley and Dynamo

I just got home from the Derby, doing table work all the way out and back, but I just wanted to say that the Ridgebackrails are great. I've used them on about ten tables now and they make every table that I bolt them onto play "better than new".

I just put a set on a Piece of Sh$t Dynamo, easily over 20 years old and after we got done we tried the "9 rail bank on to the $100 bill". The table had Championship ultra cloth and new rail bolts and I came about a quarter of an inch from getting the 9 th rail, but stopped dead center of the $100 bill. I'm sure on a newer valley or Dynamo the 9 rail bank would be easily had. Just thought I'd let you know how well the Ridgebacks work!!!!! Good luck, money well spent

somewhere around here is a video of my 9 rail bank attempt

Unless one is doing trick shots is there some significance to getting 9 rails (with ball hop added). Just asking.

9 rails

Most bar tables, because of their poor maintenance will not even go 7 rails much less 9. Try it on regular lousy bar boxes.

I installed the Ridgeback rails to replace dynamo rails that were rock hard, or almost rock hard. The table owner is new to pool but had seen a trick shot competition on ESPN where the tie-breaker was a nine rail bank onto the $100 bill. After we bolted them on , he asked me to try that shot, and that is where the video came from, so he could try to repeat it. I assure you that THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO BALL HOP ON THIS SHOT, the god awful sound is because the corner castings are loose on an old piece of sh*t table. Anyway, I was just trying to show how much better you could make an old junk table with an easy $150 upgrade, which I believe the OP was asking about?

Usually only perfectly set up and calibrated tables are able to do a 9 rail bank, especially on 9 foot tables, JMO

I'm not questioning the new rails - anything new is obviously better then old/hard cushions.
Lotsa rails on trick shots is understandable but I can't think of an instance during regular game play
where one would need to go 9 rails (or even 7 rails) on any size table.

probably overkill, but if you can go 7,8,or 9 rails its going to be easier to go 2 or 3 or4 when you need too, than on a table where 5 or 6 is the max.

PS. what if the regular game is to see how many rails you can get?

Plus its always nice to be able to play the shots you see the Pros play on TV, pretty hard to do the 9 rail bank if your equiptment only allows for 6 or 7.

Pool tables allow for a myriad of different games to be played, "regular play" is different from person to person, some even using a piece of plywood on the table. The ability to have the option to bank 9 rails is available if you choose to use your pool table for those kind of shots.

re-read my post #5

I suck at math, but I only count 8 rails. Just sayin'...

My local bar is getting three Valleys redone with Ridgeback rails as a direct result of this thread and others like it. Thanks!

Courtney

I think if you reread my post #5 you'll see that I said the cue ball stopped about a quarter of an inch short of the 9th rail.

You guys are going to really enjoy playing on those tables with the new rails, you'll probably even be able to get the 9th rail.

Forgive my ignorance, but I might be interested in upgrading my 7' valley with the ridgeback rails also. However, I would want to preserve the original pocket specs or something that plays as closely as possible to that. I've read posts from Johhnyt that his newly installed ridgeback rails have pocket specs that are 4". Is that just a custom job? Thanks.

You can order replacement rails the same dimension as you currently have. They have the ability to extend the rails if you are looking for tighter pockets. Give them a call and discuss your needs.

Mine are custom. I also have standard Ridgebacks 4 1/2". Johnnyt
