The most embarrassing shot in pool

I could easily have done a poll, but too many choices.

Here's mine: I've nicely managed a run to move to the money ball -- the eight or the nine -- and I've cleverly maneuvered the cue ball into position for a 12-inch shot into the corner pocket.

Because my opponent has gotten under my skin, I want a little juice on this money ball when it slams into the pocket. Instead, I scoop the cue ball and scratch -- in front of an audience. My cash goes elsewhere.

Please don't ask whether I'm writing from personal experience. Would be too bitter, this soon.

The object ball is buried deep in the hole and it's very hard to draw the cue ball back for position, so you decide to go rail first to get shape. Oops! You miss the whole ball! It's happened to everyone, don't feel too bad. :D

I HATE when that happens !!!

Ball In Hand

And you miss the first shot. Nothing bugs me more. Usually trying for a little extra juice when not even necessary. Lost my last tournament this way.

Or, at the SBE you have won the first set. You are at 4 on the second set and your opponent is at 2. You break, the nine goes towards the corner pocket but not in and the 5 rolls about 6 inches in front of it. You run the balls and have a slight, tiny angle on the 5 to combo the 9 for the 2 set win and.....you miss! Your opponent wins the next three. Luckily I won set 3.

You make an impossible: thin cut/kick shot/bank shot, in conjunction with setting up perfect position for your next shot. Guess what happens on that easy shot you set up?

OK I can't see enough of the object ball to make it because another ball has me very slightly hooked. I ask a few bangers if the shot goes and of course they look and say no cause your hooked. But I know I can masse around the ball that has me hooked and hit the object ball and with a little throw.....and pitch it in the pocket;).

But instead I miss calculate and hit the ball that has me hooked and everyone laughs and says we told you it wouldnt go.:embarrassed2:

Did win the third set to advance to the third round in the bracket. And now I get to play Coby Atkins....sigh.....

Jay any advice on how to play him? Probably just DON'T MISS!
Bob

If he's any relation to Dee Atkins you're in trouble. :grin-square:
P.S. Keep your head down! And don't look up until it's over.

9-Ball, Case Game...Opponent makes the 9 and scratches...spots the nine and rolls me the cue ball. I line up to make the shot straight in...and a crumb of chalk just in front of the 9-ball makes it look like the nine rolled over a boulder and i miss...

(Maybe there was a piece of chalk there) :( LMFAO

Had a couple last night, relatively easy shots and playing shape for my wife (Scotch partner) got fantastic shape for her, that is if it was her turn to shoot next.

Saw one of my team mates do this Wednesday - shooting at a hanger and following it in. I'm not going to even try to tell you guys that it's never happened to me. :embarrassed2:

On another one, I see the BIH miss and raise. Shot at the wrong ball with BIH. I actually did this in a tournament. :embarrassed2::D

usually my top speed 14mph break....but even worse yet is when you whiff the CB on your attempt at putting that extra umph in it to get to 15mph...:o

This usually happens to me when I play 10 ball.....for some reason I have this problem of playing the last few balls in order of 6-7-9-8-10.....usually right after I have played perfect shape on the 9 is when the realization and embarrassment sets in......but in some cases I have gone on to even shoot the 9 to play shape on the 8 before I realized.....and of course my opponent let me shoot the obvious foul....(I am sure you can figure out why this seems to happen when playing 10 ball)

Then of course there is the "blind as a bat shot" of while shooting at your OB you hit another ball along the way to your ball.

That is enough embarrassment for one night...

I've done both....

......missing with BIH, but somehow I felt most embarrassed when I tried to put some kind of power draw on a straight in easy shot to the side pocket, and jumped it like the OP described....then some jerk behind me lets out a horse laugh like the guy in the "Hustler" movie when Fast Eddie missed the "set-up" proposition shot with the cue ball frozen to the eight ball frozen to the rail......

I've done a lot of stupid things over the last five or so years but none was worse than when I screwed my wife in a match. She had ball in hand on the one and had to run five. I lined up the shot so she could break out the 3 and the two was a hanger so it was no big deal. I had her her stick showing how to stroke it when I accidentally hit the cue ball and made the one. Gave the other guy ball in hand and he took it down. It was a long night.

I'm so glad to see this thread !

I'm shooting an 8B 18 inches straight into corner pocket. Just have to suck the CB back about 2 inches for perfect shape on 9B. Of course I jump the CB, it hits the top of the 8B, the CB goes into pocket first, followed by the slowly rolling 8B. BIH for my opponent on the 9B.

Missing with ball in hand is up there, but I think dropping your cue on top of the CB while shooting at the 8 in a hill-hill 8-ball match is more embarrassing.
Players miss with BIH for various reasons, but there's no excuse for dropping your cue in the middle of a shot.
