for many years Barnum & Bailey had the greatest show.

But since last year The Super Billiards Expo has taken the reigns as being The Greatest Show On Earth with the addition of the 14.1 Challenge.

I wanted to take this opportunity to give a big shout-out to Charlie Eames(forumghost516). last year charlie steer-headed the whole idea of bringing the event to SBE and he did a fantastic job in getting it done. with special thanks to all of you as well for chiming in and making the difference.

This year was no different, Charlie once again broke his butt getting all the planning done and so on and so fourth..Finding sponsors, Formatting, and Logistics.

There is no doubt in my mind that Charlie will do an even better job as MC in the arena, now that he has last year under his belt.

So here we are the night before we leave for SBE, and like i said i want to say thank you to Charlie, Our Very Generous Sponsors, and of course all of you !!!

Peace !

Here's to Charles, and to you and Heather, Steve. Let's not forget Bob Jewett and Fury cues. See you Friday.

Steve: When will you be there? Are you recording the attempts? How many tables will you have going?

Where are the rules and prizes mentioned ? I know you guys are splitting up the competition between amateurs and pros. How does that work? The prize money is separate? What are the amounts?

Will you be having a tournament at the end with the best X players playing each other? I assume that will be just on the pro side? Or not?

Good Luck and don't work too hard.

Dennis

I would say...

"The Greatest (Anything) on Earth" is copyrighted!! And the Legal team is good, real good, chaarlie!

Thumbs Up

It is people like all of you that keep our Sport alive.
It is a great Sport and I as a player who loves it appreciates all that you do.
God Bless & My Thanks to you all.

I fully agree, and urge everyone to come down and try the challenge. Yesterday, I briefly hung around the booth briefly, and during that period Steve Lipsky, Dan Barouty, Bob Maidhof and Darren Appleton came up to play.

So True

Spent 9 hours at the SBE yesterday and can't wait to get back there again today. Helped Steve and Charlie at the Straight Pool Challenge most of the day and the Expo truly is one of the best pool experiences of the year anywhere on the planet. Enjoyed talking to and watching some of the best in pool, past and present, try their best to run balls including Varner, Schmidt, Appleton, Pagulayan, Daya, Lipsky, Barouty, Dunsmore, etc. What a fantastic time!!!

Ron: I am sure you are there now, but maybe you can answer this when you get back.

What are the high runs? Who is shooting the best, in your eyes?
When do the matches begin? Who are the top 8 or whatever number makes the cut?

I am simply in awe of how these guys are putting up such high numbers. I mustered a 114 in my first attempt yesterday, and my 2nd and 3rd attempts were so bad I didn't have the heart to try again.

The conditions of the room (not the booth's fault at all) made it such that it was nearly impossible to open the balls. I had to come with trick shot after trick shot just to run a rack. I can't tell you how impressed I am with these super-high numbers.

Steve said on Facebook that Mika ran a 111 yesterday.

And we know Daya ran a 95 and that is about it.

Marop talked to Maebelle (sp?) and I think Mika, Daya, Chamberlain, and maybe John Schmidt are among the top 8. Don't know what Lipsky, Barouty, Appleton or anyone else did.

Will update after Bill talks to her again or John.

Mika 250 with a turn to go
Dave Daya 225
Darren Appleton 225
Nick Varner 200
Mike Davis 200
Bobby Chamberlain 180
John Schmidt 169
T.J. LaFlamme 139

These are approximations I heard from Marop. I may have gottten Davis and Appleton mixed up.

Wow! Not Diamond tables, I guess. Still, wow!

It is Diamond tables. Those number are for 5 innings at the table not just one run. I believe the high run for one inning is 111 by Mka so far.

Update

Hey guys here's the updae with still several hours left to go for qualifying.

1. Mika 259 with one attempt left
2. Dave Daya 225
3. Mike Davis 225
4. John Schmidt 210
5. Nick Varner 200
6. Appleton 200
7. Chamberlain 179
8. Kevin Clark 164

Like I said still some time left with alot of big Gina vying for a spot.

Sorry for the lack of updates, we have been a tad bit busy and oh yes exhausted !!!!

Can we confirm high run in a single attempt? Find it hard to believe that Mr. 400 hasn't put together 12-13 racks. lol.

Come on John, you bought a pool room, we know you have been practicing. :D

Speaking of which, anyone heard how the S Bridge Cafe is doing? Haven't made it up that way yet.

Carl

Better than "the Greatest Show"

It's not exactly a miracle because an enormous amount of hard work and planning and money went into bringing it into fruition, but the Fury SBE 14.1 Challenge certainly is miraculous. Thank you Charles, Heather, Steve, Bob Jewett, all the sponsors and all you forum mates who know what the Championship Game is. It was fun having folks ask me, "Why's he leaving a ball on the table?" or "What game is this?" and then sticking around for hours to watch the play.

Who knows where this goes? Maybe the kind of appropriate setting that 3 Cushion got this year (another mob scene).

Straight Pool lives!

The numbers shown are not runs. They are total balls made for their 3 turns at the table. If someone run 50 balls then missed and did this 3 times, the total balls was 150. Yesterday afternoon the high run was about 140 by Mika
