Disgusted

Those other games mentioned are better granted. But most won't play the harder games, so you play what action dictates. Very true about weaker players hitting the ball so hard that when they miss the whole table changes. I know if I miss, that ball is somewhere in front of the pocket.
Don't get me wrong. It happens and I'm only venting and not looking for sympathy. But sometimes when you look at what just happened and you gotta say this is disgusting.

Perfect ststement 12!

At what are you disgusted? The game? But that's the game. Your opponent?
Your the one that said it was all luck and that he was not responsible for those lucky shots. Fate? There is nothing there that disgust will change. Fate is fate.

I take it you have been playing awhile. You can't tell me that you have never had similar runs of luck in your pool playing experience.

Now if you shot badly, that's a reason to be disgusted. And the only thing that you have any control over.

But if you were shooting well and he won the set strictly because of an unusual lucky streak I think you made a mistake by running him of with a bad attitude. Once he thought he could beat you and didn't see that he was just lucky and that you have superior skills he was money in the bank.

It seems to me your ego got in the way of common sense. But, that is just my humble opinion.

Just Perfect, in your reply post! I like it.
Regards,
Lock N Load.

Why do you think he left?

i'm getting so fed up with luck or roles coming into play within the course of a match.
Played this guy yesterday a race to 9. In that race he snapped 2 nine balls, had 3 nine ball combinations, shit 2 balls in non intended pockets and got out. That's 7 unanswered games. What snapped me was his comment " i'd rather be lucky than good ". My response was " i'd rather have someone respect my game " in which he took offence to.
So i lose 9-7.
Now he's all happy cause he beat me and wants to play again. I said fine but we modify the game and see if you can win without luck.
Play call shot of your next ball in rotation, meaning always calling 1 ahead of what your shooting whether its calling the pocket or playing safe and see how good you are without luck. If you don't accomplish what u called its ball in hand.
Needless to say he left.
I'm sure others are as fed up as me.

maybe he left because the guy he just beat got all pissy & bichy like a girl who just got felt up on her fist date.

Love game too much . Have no intentions of quitting. And it probably will happen again somewhere down the line. But yea this one stung. Lol

Shane, Shane, Shane! I feel your pain, pain, pain! Just calm down a bit and think long and hard about this player and your game with him. Ask yourself this, "Are you the better player?" If the answer is yes, then camp out at the pool hall and wait for him to show up again. Keep playing him until he quits you, hopefully raising the bet each time you play. This is exactly the guy you want to be playing, the one who relies on luck to win. In the long run, skill will out. It always does! There is not as much luck in 9-Ball as one would think. The best player does win in the end! My prediction is that once you start beating him he'll get weak as a kitten. Good luck and p.s. I like your name.

I agree in your particular situation, it sucks, but luck adds a certain amount of excitement to the game, especially in rotational games. For instance, when the kick-safe option is out, you're forced to kick the ball hard and full, and hope something good happens. You'd have to have the skills to kick the ball full with speed in order to get lucky. I always stand by the phrase, "luck is the residue of hard work." Not to mention some lucky shots are actually quite entertaining.

Sorry buddy, you're barking up the wrong tree! That's how 9-ball is played. If you don't like it, play a different game...or you could just play BETTER! LOL

Isn't the goal of a break to make a ball? Have you never taken the 9 ball out of turn with either a carom or a combo?

sorry but like other people have said its part of the game.

Hey there are different games, some have luck others are more skill. Like when I play 8 ball it is always call the shot/pocket, no ball in hand. For 9 ball luck has a lot to do with it, but it is a fast paced game. Everyone gets lucky once in awhile.

Why would you play no ball in hand? No punihsment for illegal shots? You must be kidding.

The rolls will even out.....

Just keep playing the guy the same way. If your better than him you will get the cash.

Hopefully he thinks he is better and not luckier.

Changing the rules to take out the luck might kill your action. It sometimes helps the player see that he can't win. that your ability is just too much.

Go get'em.

Good advice especially if you can play him alot.

That's how these casinos do so good. the sucker even gets lucky and wins sometimes.

it's a good thing............

All part of the game, yes it boils your blood. However, it is easier to remember when someone does it to us and not when we do it to them. I bet you get lucky too. He could have left because you insulted him and you were all pissed off. Give me one good reason why he would want to play again.

What if the guy had a lucky streak but is also better than **Shane**?

Could be an expensive lesson...

There is always some luck involved in every sport and in life in general. How about what happens on the break, not just making the 9 on the snap but how the balls spread out.

Oh look, It's this thread again. Dont play nine ball. And the guy is right, I would rather be lucky than good.

This is great info,i did just what u said not to do,i am playing this guy 9ball,he is a better shot maker then me,but i play much better shape,so were playing every other shot he is out of line, bam fired that one in,bam bam bam all day long, tough shot after tough shot, iam knowing it cant last much longer, but it did long enough for me to go bust, now we were playing even, now the next day he comes back in,and i tell him i will spot him the 8ball,but we will change the rules a little, call your next pocket,as in if you are shooting the 1ball before you shot the 1ball you call where u are going to pocket the next ball, well he had no chance to win at this game,he was all over the place with his cue ball just like yesterday,so i win every set ,get my money back from yesterday, but thats all i got,now by me changing the game he sees that if every thing doesnt go his way he cant beat me,so now he wont even play me 9ball the same way he beat me,so like gene says here hang in there it will come ur way soon, dont change the game like me and smarten up your oponent!

Call your next shot, is a great way to shut down all luck. Even if they over roll their shots they have to play them in the hole they called...Most A players can't run a rack like this. Hell most pro's nowadays can't run out like this...

It is the only way to play real pool! Every game is better...Plus it is easy to understand..."This shot I will be playing the 4 in the side pocket for my next shot I will be playing a 5 ball in that corner making sure to point at the intended corner...then you might say "5 in the corner 6 ball cross side."

I'll bet no lucky player ever win's another tourney...Plus no ducking out every time you suck....You must call safe before you get in trouble...lol

This part would ruin like 98% of people. No safety unless you knew you were going to play it...Call it the shot before you shoot..

I have been playing all games like this since I was 8-9 years old...It is the best game around. This rule can be used in every single game there is to make it more professional.
That would seriously damage the popularity of 9-ball (which is okay with me), the reason people like 9-ball over 14.1 is because there is the illusion that with luck on any given day any player can win. The same illusion to an even greater extend is what makes Hold-em popular. Of course, in the long run that is not true of either game, but the illusion persists nonetheless.
After that run of luck, the player who beat the OP will contribute much more to other players before he wins again.

I agree with Jay. That's why the game is usually played in races. To even out fortunes and missfortunes.
Do what I used to do Shane. When you get home from the pool room, slap the wife around a little and kick the crap out of the dog. You'll be feeling better in no time.
Glad I could help. :)
