There has to be some members here on AZ with experience in promoting events and products. I know FatBoy is one and I’m sure there are others. My question is with the limited amount of money streamers that put on pool ppv’s have, what are some of the best ways in your experience to promote a ppv ahead of time? Come on guy’s, give some free ideas for the game we all love so much. AZ has done some great things for people and products over the years. I really think that pool ppv streaming can help pool grow bigtime. It’s too bad mailings to poolrooms with a free poster to of the match to hang in the room is too expensive now. That would be one of the ways to promote IMO Johnnyt

Maybe this is already happening, not sure, but getting poolroom owners to show the streams would probably help spread the word about them and maybe broaden the audience.

When you consider other ad alternatives sending posters to pool rooms (maybe thru the various league systems and amusement operators) is not that expensive and a good way to promote a ppv event. Press releases and postings on social media are free. Problem is - who's going to do it. :D
 
In Houston they have streams and PPV matches going on when they are happening on a big flat screen that shows the matches well. Lots of people watch while they drink. It's a cool thing to do.
 
We can all do it.

The people running the events simply need to create a nice poster, save it in an easily printable format, and link it here. Anyone could then print off a few and drop them off at their favorite haunts.

I'm gonna be dropping off a few for the Earl/JA match. The guy that created the poster emailed it to me, as it was too big a file to post here. Probably cuz it has photo's and lot's of color. (A very nice poster, indeed.) In the future, those wanting to promote this way would simply need to create a poster sized appropriately that it could be posted here for everyone to download simply, without dedicated emails.

Is it perfect, no. It is a start.
 
An idea

Why not just ask for interested parties to submit an email address and just send a mass reminder email to the group a week or two before an event? You could send a printable poster for the room owners to print and post in the pool rooms.

Just a thought, beats the US mail and poster printing costs.

I am working at a grass roots level right now in my own home room. I'm trying to persuade the owner that a"DEDICATED" laptop with an hdmi cable is about all he needs to watch the live stream events.

Trying to determine which of the laptops on the market today would be the best choice for him to buy since this will be the ONLY thing that the lap top will do.

He's already got more than enough big screen TVs.

Eventually, I see instructors doing PPV and making money doing it. Patrons would be drawn to pool rooms that provide FREE/PPV live streaming just like they are drawn to Chicken Wing places providing UFC fight coverages. (Ok, maybe not quite as attractive to the masses but to the pool degenerate, it would be a plus). I think new people to the sport of pocket billiards would enjoy seeing live streams of HOW TO.

It's all about promotion.

Just like a recent thread insinuated that pro players have to put some initiative into promoting pool, the pool room owners have to think outside of the box as well.

Individuals, like you and I have to help the pool room owners think as well. On a local level, explain to the non-technology oriented pool room owner, how this and other things can postively affect his bottom line. That is the key to his pocket book.

I have to tell ya that pool rooms offering the PPv matches for their customers is a 50/50 issue with me personally and I am sure it must be the same for TAR etc. The problem is we have a certain amount of $$ going out for these events and the thought that a pool room buys the event once for $25 and then lets say 20 people in a pool room show up to watch it. Did TAR lose $$ as maybe 10 of those 20 people may have bought it at home? Who knows but itis for sure a factor and that is why The UFC fights charge a certain amount based on the customer/bar's capacity. In this world right now with the way things are and the sport we have no real way to stop it or regulate it so the pool room can actually get 20 extra customers that will be there for 2 or 3 days for $25. Is that fair?? you make that decision.

Having said that the other 50 is that it would be good for pool to be able to stream these things into the bar, pool room etc. It would be good for the sport so thats why I am 50/50 on the pool rooms buying it and showing it. Just my opinion but I would like to hear Justin/TAR's opinion of this.

HOW TO would be a good promote for a lead in on ppv's. Have players show some tips on how to do certain things. Or maybe a good well known intructor in the area would do a 15 min clip of basics. More than just the new players could use them lol. Johnnyt

It can be charged like UFC. with UFC they charge a business based on there occupancy. The pool hall I go to gets charged 1500 for a UFC fight based on there 8,000 sqr feet.

Obviously it would have to be alot cheaper then that to make it work.

Just for curiosity what has been done to promote this event so far?
I'm sure many AZers are aware but that's just a drop in the ocean.
 
The event flyer in on all major pool and billiards websites in in the Phillipines about 7 or 8 different countries major pool websites, many league operators, Facebook of a few different people, Friends in the industry passing the word along, AzBilliards of course, NYC Grind, Pro9UK. We are not in a position to put ads in magazines and so it is out as much as we can get it to as many people as we know or have access to that will hopefully pass the info on.
 
trust me, the people who CAN/WOULD spend 10/15/25 bucks on an internet pool stream are NOT people who would care to turn their ass to leather and fry their backs watching it in a poolroom on stools.

It would be nice to have it on while shooting/practicing....and i'm sure they are just as likely to go home and buy it (maybe MORE likely due to seeing at the poolroom and how high-quality the streams have become).

UFC is a lot different...the main events last MAYBE 10 minutes...and no more than 15 minutes ever. much different than 40 hours of pool streams over a weekend.

YOu may be right Mark (and it's not greedy thoughts at all), but the bottom line is if pool is to grow (or stay in business), pool rooms will have to put on their thinking caps and figure out how to keep existing customers interested in pool and how to attract new customers.

I see your point but I think in the long run, as more people become exposed to live streaming (at the pool room) there will become a bigger pie (larger target audience) and those newcomes to live stream may want to stay home on occasion and have their own fun in the chat room and private viewing of the match. They won't be doing much interaction in the chat room at the pool room.
