Patriotism or pool?

No. I opened this thread to make a point, one you have clearly missed.
Where a particular product is made should have no bearing whatsoever. Support POOL, not pool with a particular flavour. (note proper spelling) :sorry:

But if the wood that is used in China to create the pool cue causes Americans pool players' arms to atrophy, it does give one a wee bit of concern.

These are the side effects that are provided with cues made in China.

Seek medical attention right away if any of these SEVERE side effects occur when shooting with this cue:

Tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, fainting, memory loss, numbness of an arm or leg, one-sided weakness, painful or prolonged erection, ringing in the ears, persistent dizziness, severe vision changes, sudden loss of hearing, sudden loss of vision in one or both eyes.

Americans should think twice about shooting with one of these Chinese cues. :embarrassed2:

painful or prolonged erection

Are you sure about that Jam?
I get very excited about playing and even watching pool.

Of course, I just turned 53 today so my priorities can get all mixed up at times.

Now, if I were to ever be lucky enuff to meet Keith and yourself, I would be very excited but not that way.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL! :rotflmao::rotflmao::rotflmao:

As long as you're not holding a Chinese-made cue in your paws, you'll be safe! :grin-square:

What's with the constant "buy American" refrain? Is see it all the time; implicitly as well as explicitly. I don't care where a product is made, I just want the best product going. As far as I'm concerned this site is for pool and pool alone. The 'buy American' brigade are devaluing the game and doing a disservice to pool fans the world over IMO.

So, are you a patriot or a pool fan? Both is NOT an option.

Saying both is NOT an option, is ignorance at its best. People can't be a patriot and a pool fan? That's funny.

People have reasons for everything. Given the sad state of our economy, (not like the rest of the world is on cloud nine, either) it makes sense, especially to the older generations and people who understand economics, the importance of keeping money in the demographic area you live in. A lot of our labor and nearly everything we have in our house is not made from this country, and more and more business are leaving because the profit margin is higher, they get tax cuts, etc.

To think people buying American is "devaluing the game" or doing "disservice" as you put it, is a bunch of crap. I'm surprised you have seriously considered this topic an issue

I buy whatever I feel is best for ME. I don't care where it came from, and who made it, as long as it suits my purpose.

That's the beauty of capitalism and the free market.

Now you've done it Roy! I just got finished watching and listening to Milton's perspective about drug legalization and can't believe that he makes some sense. Curse you Roy bringing these economist philosophers to my radar screen.

Yeah, but Milton Friedman *is* American made. :p

And I'm surprised you so obviously misunderstood it, but there you go.

If you really do 'understand economics', you'll understand a policy of 'keeping money in the demographic area you live in' is economic suicide in the long term.

I've bought two American made cues - a viking and a mcdermott. Both shafts warped like crazy. I've bought a dozen or so Chinese made cues - every one straight as a die.

Sneering at the opposition does no good, and is ultimately counter productive. This goes to the heart of my argument.

well with that kind of pure luck I think I woukld start playing the lottery:wink:

EVERY pool player would be better off watching that 3 minute video.

Division of labor is one of the necessary concepts to have if wealth and stuff are two of your goals.

Trade restrictions to "protect our workers" reduce prosperity for everyone, everytime, on both sides.

Then go. Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. In fact, don't even look back.

Why would you tell a good person to leave? If all the rational, good workers leave, what is left here?

Now, there are some bad people I'd like to have leave....

FWIW, most cues made in China is from wood imported from the US and Canada. Rock maple doesn't grow natively in China.

and sadly , many oriental cues DON'T use rock maple . The use what they often label 'chinese maple' - Ramin wood . Resultantly , these cues end up as twisted as a ramen noodle . . . .

I'd rather hoped it would have been abundantly clear by now that the purpose of this thread is to remind people that location doesn't matter: promoting our sport is all that counts.

Stop saying "I would buy cue X over cue Y, because it's just as good and is made in America.

Stop saying "Both are fine tips, but X is made in America".

Start saying "I use X and highly recommend it. It is the standard all cues/tips should be measured by".

Forget the country and think the company.
