US Open 1P - Bad Manners

Oh, man, in some of those men's bathrooms, they should just take out the toilets and plant trees in there.

That goes hand in hand with the preference of some young people to piss outside the pool hall instead of the bathroom.

While watching the TAR ppv Friday night, just after a match, I believe between Silviero/Dimmick, I saw something that rubbed me the wrong way. A couple of things, actually.

At the match's conclusion, a few young guys came over to the stream table, one was on his cell phone and began twirling the balls, sending them spinning around the table, no big deal. Then a couple of the others joined in, still no big deal.

But one of them was hovering over the table with a plastic cup in his hand and it was tilting pretty good at times and I thought; sure hope whatever he's drinking doesn't slosh out of the cup onto the table. This has always been a pet peeve of mine, beverages on, or over, a pool table. :(

Then, one of the other guys plopped one of his shoes right up onto the rail of the stream table and proceeded to tie his shoe. C'mon buddy. I know these Diamonds are practically indestructable, and that it will likely be wiped down before the next match, but have a little respect, will you?

Did he just come from across the street, maybe went for a bathroom break, then figured it's cool to put all that has collected on the bottom of his shoe onto the table rail where players will be competing?

Okay, maybe I'm a little germaphobic (urineaphobic?) and the possibility does exist that I obsess over not wanting spills on a pool table.

But am I unreasonable in my expectations that people should be more respectful than what I've described above?

Best,
Brian kc

Dumping the balls on the table from the plastic tray is also a ridiculous thing to do that I see way too often. and the cloth in a pool hall is usually filthy. I wash my hands after I play at the pool room and at home again. Cloth is germ heaven in most rooms and I never touch my mouth with my bridgehand if I feel itchy or sweaty...

Think about all the penis germs on all of the house cues next time you reach for a Wallabuska. You know there aren't too many pool players that wash their hands after taking a leak and/or colon blow. We've all seen it. Eww!

In junior high it was 3 licks if you
were caught walking across the gym floor with hard shoes on. I personally couldn't own a entertainment type business , and i think most people who do suffer burnout pretty quick , i'm sure some personality types deal with it better .

I walked into a VFW the other day to see if the had a Friday night 8 ball tourny , they didn't but that model may be the way to go for pool rooms in the future , in private clubs , if your paying for upkeep you may be more vocal when someone dawgs the equipment , members responsible for guests. After school , and Saturday afternoons , kids could play , then adults could have a beer or 4 .

not in my place

All these things will get you a talking to in my room, people get two fouls then goodbye.

When I grew up

Kids were not cottled like they are today. Parents today let kids tell them what to do, it's no wonder they don't have manners.

Helllloooo! You are the parent, the teacher, kids are the grasshopper!

Unfortunate Bill did not see that, he would have ran them out of there fast with a professional, gentle but definately to the point dressing down as they say.

I worked in a pool hall on the weekends just so I could play for free. I never yelled at anyone for being discourteous to the equipment. What I did was to get their attention and ask them to come to me. Then I explained in a nice way that other people enjoy the equipment and would appreciate that the equipment should be treated courteously. I let them know in a polite way that they had better NEVER DO THAT AGAIN in a nice quiet way. I never had a problem with people understanding me.

I believe that if you work in a pool hall, it's your job to make sure people don't get out of line and if they do, you need to let them know immediately that it won't be tolerated!! In the three years I worked there, I never had a problem because I never let it become a problem.

Sorry Jam but I've cleaned the womens' bathrooms before and bathroom etiquette is not observed by some females either unfortunately! It's not a man or woman issue it's a people issue. There are plenty of slobs out there and sex doesn't seem to make a difference.

Its bad form and not proper behavior, but its something I have seen a million times. When bangers put a drink on the box-I give them a pass as they dont know better.

If I have a water bottle an am standing at a table for while talking and need to put it down I usually drop it on the floor, if my back hurts I might put in the pocket. This is a bottle with a cap on, not a cup with a snap-on lid. That awalys goes on the floor.

I dont let things like this bother me much, its America(and thats become the normal thing here) somewhere in the past 20 to 30 years we all got fat, dress like shit and lost our manners. Its a shame but watch some TV shows form the 60's and look at the extras, I saw a picture of Pan-am first flight to Europe takeen in 71? in New York. Every one there was dressed nicely, the people in the background, the pilots, flight attendentents etc. all looked great, not one person over 250. Now I get on a SW plane and people barly fit in the seats the flight attendentnts in their Kackie shorts and tee shirts. We as a whole have slipped up bad in ameirca and its getting worse. And I'm guilty as the next American, i aint pinning this on anyone-i am on everyone just about. I'll tell you who dresses with Class and thats Buck tooth and Billy cardone is awalys in fashion has been forever.

I go to Europe and rarely see this kind of behavior unless its in a pub and they are hammered(but I dont spend much time in them-usually passing through), and it reminds me of when I was a little kid when americans had pride in themselfs, in germany I'm the worst dressed person I know among my friends, we go to dinner they all have suits on. they let it slide nbut its embarassing. I am guilty of dressing poorly, unless i'm on business. If I was a pro player I woulld dress good, since i'm not I dont dress good as I should.

Yeah, this could be true, but women for sure have better aims!

when I was houseman at the 211 Club in Seattle, I took great pride in making the pool room a place for the players. To tell you the truth, I couldn't stand most of the other customers :D I was majorly hooked on pool back then and didn't care about anything else then.

So, the people that came in (the paying customers that kept the joint open) that were bangers or guys looking to get drunk and play pool, really irritated the crap out of me. I didn't mind the people that came in and were quiet and minded their own business though.

The top actions that really got my blood boiling were these.

The idiots that would dump the balls on the table. I would quickly scan the players to make sure no one was down on a shot, if not, I would scream out "No dumping the balls on the table". The place had no music, so when I did that, everyone would look over at the offender and that was satisfying to see the guy feeling the entire room's eyes burning a dagger in him.:D

The people that would hold their beers around the pool table or set in on the rail. ANY drinks ANYWHERE close to the rail, got the "No drinks anywhere close to the table"

The people that would sit on the rails would get the "DON'T SIT ON THE RAILS"

The idiots that would bang their cues on the table would get the "DON'T BANG YOUR STICK ON THE TABLE"

and the people that would start to get loud would get the "LET'S KEEP IT DOWN"

and finally the one that surprised people the most, was out of the gentle clicking of the balls and otherwise quiet atmosphere, would be me yelling "THERE'S NO WHISTLING":D

We had zero tolerance for anyone that wouldn't abide by our rules. They got warned and it they did it again, I just went and picked the balls up and told them they were done.

To this day, almost 25 years later, I still hear every set of balls dumped on the table, I still hear every whistle, I still see people sitting on the rails, or holding drinks near the table and I have to fight hard to resist saying anything.

Some things just stay with you forever.:)

Pro Players with Bad Manners

Bad Manners are not just from the spectators!

I was in a major tournament and Corey Deuel was playing on the table next to me and my table was open for practice! So, I held off on practice because it was hill hill and hay the tables are kind of close. What's a couple minutes going to hurt???

two rounds later I am on the hill with a tough shot and go over to the guy (not corey) banging practice shots on the next table to "Please give me one minute" and he looks at me kind of funny and keeps banging away!

I am 6'3" and 220 pounds and the guy is like 5'8", I did not go off and get into anything physical or verbal! Just, concentrated on the shot and placed the guy on my $hit list!

In bowling you don't bowl at the same time as the lanes next to you! Why would you do this in pool??? I just don't understand???

Wow, this brings up a ton of Bad Manners stuff for me! Its hard to draw the line between bad manners and sharking!

Guys wiggling in their seat, they just have to reach for that sip of water or that puff on their cigarette while your down on your shot!

Sportsmanship in this sport has along way to go! I have heard and seen top pros talk about intentionally sharking other players! One guy said he would just ask for a re rack for NO good reason at all! He did it so much the tournament director had to come and rack the balls and by then the guy was so UPSET it caused him to get out of his ZONE!

When it was all over the winner said I never beat that guy before. I had to "throw some $hit in the game to win" "I couldn't sit there and watch another 6 pack"

Even better yet is the big bright white hotel towel used to wipe down the cue in the middle of your shot.

Professional Pool really needs to get it together!!!!!!
