Who are the " Fan Friendly" Pro's

I'd like to go to a top level tourny to both see and possibly interact with the top tier players. I'd like to know which "pro's" are truely fan friendly. Those that will talk to, and offer "face time" to a real nobody in the pool world. I realize that the demands on time can sometimes be great for a pro, but the really beloved pros of other sports are the ones that consistently make time for their fans. Who falls into this category in pool??

In my opinion John Schmit, Mike Massie, Grady Mathews, Nick Varner are some who have always treated me very well.

fan friendly pros

buddy hall , nick varner , Archer , tony robles, steve moore, gabe ownes, shannon dalton, just to name a few or the men most all of the ladys are fan friendly

Most of the pro's are really good guys and when they have time will talk to you, just pick your time right. I would say approacable and that I personally like talking with.......(in no particular order) Johnny Archer, Dennis Hatch, Stevie Moore, Adam Smith, Darren Appleton, Shawn Puttnam, Rodney Morris, Ralf Souquet, Shaun Wilkie. With the Women they are all fan friendly but it would be Kelly Fisher, Alison Fisher, Helena Thornfeldt, Monica Webb, Karen Corr.

There is a time and place for fan friendly interaction. Sometimes overly zealous fans can be crazy, as easily observed from some posts on this forum (mostly people that do things to get banned).

I think if the players were given, dedicated time to fans as opposed to spontaneous demands for their attention, it would work out better. It would give the player a safety net, knowing if something happens, people are there looking out for them. As opposed to some player thinking it their obligation to interact with someone specific and then it results in a disaster.

But rarely do promoters schedule time for players to have dedicated player-fan interaction. It usually happens at award dinners, where people have to uphold a degree of civility.

But a spontaneous player-fan interaction is dangerous. I'd hate to point out the extreme cases of theft, stalking and violence but it happens, and sometimes it happens for no reason at all.

It'd be great to see tournament promoters fit it into a schedule, dedicated player-fan interaction time.

This is another fault of tournament promoters. They don't provide player-fan interaction time.

Well,

in my opinion it s not about how *famous* or *public* a person is. I take each person equal. As long he shows me the same respect as i show him all is fine. It is more about you that has to know, that some guys are a bit more carfully with strangers (bad experiences etc. who knows). And if i feel that someone don t want to small-talk with me? who cares? He s just a human-and each is individual.

But to be on topic again: I personally never had a problem with a pro. Most impressive was to talk with Mike Massey and Jim Rempe. Talked with both of em for about 30 minutes on an exhibition. Both are great gentlemen and great guys with tons of humour. I will also never forget the face of Jim Rempe when a railbird came to our table, took Jim s Taj Mahal and went to another table to play with it...........LOL-that was great^^

John Schmidt, John Brumback,The late Wade Crane and Tony Ellin
Shannon Daultom. Allen Hopkins. Corey was very sociable. Stevie Moore
Gomez,Parica.Townsend is one of my favorites. Thorston is very friendly
and so is Ralph Souquet. Mika is also very Sociable
This is a short list though lol

Is this fan friendly in America, because several international players do not like to talk because they think their accent is so comical and prefer not to be laughed at for it? I will not say who.

I have heard about all of them attempt it lmao

I don't think its racist or prejudice that we identify their accents.

We aren't making fun of it, we are just acknowledging that professional pool players have extremely strong accents.

We both noticed the same thing.

An impersonation or direct attack on their accent would be in bad taste, but if the money is right people usually do almost anything nowadays.

I just bring it up because some people will read this and get the wrong idea. The correct idea is people are different and sometimes those differences are challenging and other times they are easy to laugh about.

Gomez has a great sense of humor. And VERY good handwriting, or maybe I should say penmanship

The only one I have met that was very friendly and chatty, if you did know know them before, was Grady. I met him at a Joss tour stop many years ago, said Hi, and the whole day when he saw me he treated me like I knew him since he was 15 hustling pool during the great depression. Archer and Kennedy are very friendly and polite, I think it has to do with the fact that they are both religious as any priest you will meet, must have gotten some manners there for sure.

Most pros are fan friendly for the most part (do not approach them immediately after they've lost a match!), with only a few exceptions. Those exceptions will go unnamed here . Tony Robles is just a naturally gregarious person, and so are Tony Crosby and Mike Massey. Rodney and and Roberto Gomez also score high on my list. But for me number one is Allison Fisher! She is genuine and sincere with everyone, looking them in the eye and truly relating to each person in a very real way. I've said it before, Allison would be a class act even if she wasn't a famous pool player. Ewa is another very warm and sincere person. This is one area where the pool players score high, relating to their fans. Pool is a unique sport in that the fans can get up close and personal with the players during the tournament. And that's a good thing!
