Lucasi vs. Pechauer

You have come to right place as I own each.
Fit and finish the Lucasi is good, the Pechauer is better
Hit is subjective but the Pechauer is a little more solid.
Resale- the Pechauer will hold its value a little better. Neither cue will bring more used then new.
The Pechauer is right up there with Joss and McDermott and close to Schon but less expensive.
The Lucasi is a good cue for the money.I have had my Lucasi for 2 years and it is dead straight and a very good playing cue. If I had to play with only the Lucasi for the rest of my life I would be OK with it. I only say this because they get a bum rap from some people. The Pechauer is a well made production cue. But the Terry McFadden custom I just got is better then both of them in fit and finish and for me it plays better then the Lucasi and the Pechauer.
You really need some table time with both to make a decision.
I'd go with a Pechauer, I have owned both didn't like the hit of the lucasi till I put a 314 shaft on it. Pechauer will offer you more options af far as customizing the cue to fit you. Lucasi is pretty much stock off the rack. The customer service at Pechauer is excellent and they stand behind their cues
Both are pretty good cue makers, personally I really like the Lucasi Hybrid series it plays really well. The one thing a few people have said is that it takes a little while getting used to the wrap on these, but when you do it's as good as it gets. I don't think there is a lot in it personally, I do owever think Lucasi get a bum rap sometimes and I am not sure why. My wife also plays with a Lucasi a non hybrid and that also hits as good as anything else.
Go with the Pechauer. I've played with the cue and currently own their breaking cue. Quality cues for the price.
Somebody in Wisconsin prefering a Pechauer over an Asian-made cue??? Hmmmm
!FWIW and IMO, I don't think you will go wrong with either. I have never owned a Pechauer, but I have a Lucasi and so does my wife (both non-hybrids) and they both are well made cues with a hit that I like, not too dissimilar from my stock Jacoby's.
The part I don't get is, I'm not so sure you are "upgrading" from your McDermott w/I-2 shaft.

Pechauer all the way. They are my favorite non-Schon cue to come out of Wisconsin (and that includes Viking/McDermott/Jacoby). I've owned 2 Pechauer sneaky petes, a JP series cue, and 2 signature series cues. All great hits. One of my sneaky petes was 15 years old, and hit like new after an $80 restoration.
They make plenty of cheap cues (200-400) that are very very close in quality to their more expensive stuff. About the only difference in the cheaper "JP" series is the inlays (obviously) and the joint is not piloted. The quality of wood and the hit are extremely similar.
Fair disclaimer, as a Green Bay native, (where Pechauer's are made) I'm going to be a bit bias.

I personally thinks it depends if you are looking for a low deflection technology and butt technology or standard technology? If you have an I-Shaft it sounds like might lean toward the technology which I would go with the Lucasi Hybrid, which for me is an incredible hit and I also own 2 Pechauers. Pechauer makes one of the best quality and most beautiful cues out there. They both have the same warranty so for me it's the low deflection shaft and rubber grip that offers the best hit but it could be far different for you? You can't go wrong!
The Lucasi slim shaft (11.75mm) is awesome as well!

depending on what your going to spend i am FIRM in the decision of neither!!!
for the price range $400 + you can buy a way better cue. just look around at any of the custom builders lower range. if you find a builder that will use the same pin as your i2 shaft, than it's even better, (you could use your current shaft) you will still have similar play as what you are use to, but with a nicer, better hitting cue.

Whether a "custom" cue is better than a Lucasi or Pechauer is highly debatable. Also Lucasi and Pechauers both start at under $200, not $400.
Lucasi are very good for an asian cue, most are super straight but.......the shaft are pretty much whippy IMHO, unless you go for the higher range hybrid series, but they are more money.
The Pechauer are nice good quality, but on the non wrapped versions I found the handles to be on the thin side.

I'm not necessarily "upgrading" to a Pechauer or Lucasi, I'm just considering getting a different cue, change of scenery I guess. Im interested in those because they offer a similar warranty as Mcdermott. I'm proly looking to spend $800. I dropped about $1100 on my McDermott for cue and new shaft, which I'd be selling before purchasing another cue, or the wife would kill me! :smile:

Are you kidding? You spent HOW MUCH? wow! They saw you coming a mile away sir, sorry! As per your question, Pechauer is definitely the way to go!! Lucasi's are cheap asian made cues which do NOTHING to 'help' this economy...Pechauers are made right here in the good ol' USA, and play MUCH BETTER than a Lucasi ever could IMO. Lucasi cues, I'm not sure exactly HOW they are made BUT I have read that Pechauers are not only glued but threaded also, to make sure nothing comes apart...and I LIKE that! I just picked up a PRO-H wine as a partial trade for another cue I was getting rid of, and I couldn't be happier! I guess I'm a better player with a basic cue as opposed to anything fancier. Good luck sir!

i just spent $2500 on a scon unique with a ob2 shaft and didnt have to wait for a year to get my cue just saying custom cues are good for some people but i think schon is a great playing cue and i think it was alot of cue for what i spent
