Does anyone know what this is?

What is this?

I don't know what it is but I have a guess. When people make thier own rockets they have to have a fabricated charge that burns the fuel for a specific period of time. Some rockets can be fairly large. The explosive shooting out of the end of the rocket doesn't necessarily burn evenly. By transferring the burn through the type of funneled contraption in your picture, you can create a more evenly dispursed charge so the rocket is less likely to shoot off to the left or right when it burns.

Just an educated guess.

Thanks for the guess. A couple of guys have responded (still no answers) from the high powered rocket club. If it is rocket related it's certainly out of the hobby class.

I don't know what it is, but with my detective work consisting of reading the small sign in the background that says "auto ordnance corp", I have found out the Auto-Ordnance was the original manufacturer of the world famous "Tommy Gun."

I still don't know what it is though.

My educated guess would be something close to a piece that bridged the gap between muzzle loader/black powder guns....................to semi automatic cartridge based firearms. A little more advanced that the typical muzzle loader in the sense that you can 'pre-load' several rounds, yet not exactly cartridges either?

well if its not a cookie cutter then it must be something to reload a six shooter

a TEN shooter . a REALLY BIG ten shooter !

brokenarrowjibe may be on the right track -this seems like it may have been used in the manufacture of paper shotgun shells - but I've never seen anything like this , and I'VE been to a World's Fair !

decrimper?

When you fire a shotgun shell the mouth of the shell springs back and needs to be opened up to reload. Looking at this thing if the size is right it looks like it would be perfect for that. If it is just sitting on the wooden base I would think it could also be an indexer for a progressive shotshell reloader. Don't really know, been a lot of years since I reloaded for a shotgun.

The original Black & Decker pecker wrecker.

Real guess, vintage shotgun re-loaded as mentioned.

My experience with shotgun shell reloading has never steered toward this type of gadget. Granted I have never reloaded Paper hulls or Brass ones either.

I'm thinking Dust Bowl days or earlier? During the depression they cut bird shot rounds to make slugs.

Do no try it at home! I could but I won't!
