Replacement for KJ's arbor?

Seems my arbor didn't survive a fall during my move. Sadly, it was mounted in the router and it just couldn't handle the impact.
I'm looking for another quality slitting saw mandrel like KJ used to sell.
The mandrel was cut for an 8mm ID slitting saw.
Does anyone have one for sale or a lead on them?

Thanks,
~Beau

Hi,

I bough several carbide saws from KJ and 2 of his arbors. They are great because of the small size of the saw. It is very rigid because of the smaller size and the cuts are super accurate.

When cutting larger billets with a 3/4" ID I found that the small saw was not cutting all of the way through. Rather than turning of of my stock down a little, I was able to turn down the large end of the shank. Because KJ's mandrels have a flat head screw instead of a nut for fastening, I was able to turn some of the stock off the flat head screw also to get my clearance. I love that tool.

If you find arbors like KJs, please post it for us to see.

Thanks,

Rick

Snap-On tools sells a fantastic mandrel that size and it is made for 30,000 rpm for air grinders, it ain't to bad on price either.--Leonard

If you own a metal lathe, you can make one. It does take time to make a 1 one off.
You can also make the diameters to suite your specific needs.

Give me a week or so after the holiday and I'll try to have some mandrels available.
Getting the mandrels isn't the problem.
Finding suitable saws at a reasonable price is the hold-up. They're expensive.

I appreciate Tony of Guerra Cues offering up a link but there's a couple of drawbacks to those.
Stay away from HSS as it will flex and won't give you a true, precise cut.
Carbide saws are the ticket. Carbide doesn't flex.
Also, you want a 1/4" shank going into the router. 1/8" IMO, isn't enough.

Actually, I'm test-cutting two different mandrels from two different suppliers
over the weekend to see which one I like better.
I want you to have the best tool that I can produce, not just something that will get you by.
No PMs please until I make my announcement.

I bought a couple from KJ and am happy with what I got. Pretty decent price.

If you make more and have a supplier for the blades, I know I am in for a couple more for back up.
I can make little wafers with those. Can almost see thru them.

KJ,

For our application your set up is great.

If the price of the saw is getting high so be it. Set your price where it is totally profitable for you and set the new price point for us to pay.

My friend came over to my shop and he used a his larger HSS cutter on my machine set up for billet slots. The compensation was way different than my silver stitch fit up using your smaller dia. carbide saw.

A am pranoid about what I will do when these wear out. They are however holding up great!

If you offer them for more money, I for one would never complain.

Thanks for a great specialized product that makes perfect ring cuts.

That's great news, KJ. I'll look forward to some news next week. I can hold off 'til then to make a decision.

Hi I use mine , from KJ a lot , doing the j/ps . I got some blades off E-bay but .050 thick, not nice and thin like k/Js . I would like a new arbor and the thin blades . More mone really not the problem . thanks Jim

As KJ said, it ain't the mandrel it's the saw.

Anyone who isn't Google inept can find solid carbide slitting saws.

Cheap, they ain't.

this woman usually has a bigger selection of blades
looks like she's out of the thinner ones right now though
ranging from .5MM to 3.00MM thick
when kj ran out of his blades , about a year & half ago, i started using these

they were $8 or $9 with free shipping for .5mm x 30mm
she's increased her prices quite a bit
and forget about talking with her to combine shipping:rolleyes:
she either doesnt understand or doesnt give a crap

Brent,

That's the blade I use.

I use them for parting off rings, as well as milling .020" slots for rings.

You have to watch the listings for them as they usually only offer 1 or a few for each listing, and they change the listings often. If you don't see what you want, just keep watching and it might come up.

Hi Dale,

Sometimes people in business can buy items in bulk to get a better unit price, then sell to a niche market like cue makers. This is referred to as "economies of scale purchasing" and it is a basic business 101 principal. It has nothing to do with about not understand E Commerce via google.

Many people here, including myself have purchased saws and mandrels from KJ and like him as a straight shooter to do business with. My point is that I would rather buy from KJ than some other site if I have the choice.
