Any Pool Rooms In Cuba?

Are there any pool rooms in Cuba. Tampa now has flights to Cuba and I might go and see what it's like. I hear you walk down the street and it's like going back in time with no fast food joints and a lot of old 1950 and 1960 cars. The Army came close to sending me to visit Castro in 63, but plans changed. Johnnyt

If you get a chance, you should watch the recent episode of Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations on TV. He paid a visit to Cuba, and it really captured the essence of the climate and environment.

Good friend of mine is from Cuba, but she did not mention any pool rooms. They're more into baseball there.:p

Google didn't turn anything up. Didn't really think there would be any sites.
Most likely the All Inclusives like Vera Dero would have a table on the premises.

I would be willing to bet that you can get some nice cigars there anyway.

Thanks Jam. I'll look for it after my before Turningstone stream power nap :D. Johnnyt

You do realize you won't actually be allowed on the flight, right? Unless you are one of the few that qualify to get the government authorization.

They play plenty of pool there, I do believe. 3c too.

Alfredo de Oro was Cuban.

Need to use search term 'billar'. Pronounced 'bill-yar'.

I got quite a few hits on ye olde gewgle.

Are you sure? I thought almost anyone could go now? Johnnyt

No, not many are allowed at all, and those that are have to jump through a bunch of hoops. Take a look:

Maybe depending on your profession or religious affiliations you could get in more easily, or go down and volunteer and build a house as part of a documnented group activity, then sure you can get in. I think the recent lessening of restrictions was mainly dealing with Cuban-Americans going to visit blood relatives and money flow. The rest of us still can't go. If you can't meet any of the criteria your best bet like some Americans do is to fly down to Jamaica or Cancun and buy a flight in cash there and fly directly to Havana via those two places. Then make sure the cubans don't stamp your passport, which supposedly they will not.

We were at a nice all-inclusive at the end of Varadaro. Two pool tables, both 3x6, both were tucked away on a balcony with little room around them and they sucked bigtime. But their beer is excellent

I would LOVE to go by boat. I take my smallish boat to the Bahamas every couple of months and some of the places that I go are farther than it would be from Key West to Cuba. One day I hope I'm able to do it, pool cue in tow. Johnny, let me know if you find a way to go.

Well all I can say is be safe and I hope you don't get kidnapped.

Good Luck:smile:

There aren't any real pool rooms in Cuba. Many, but not all hotels, have a billiards room with a couple of pool tables.

Pool and billiards (or "carambola") were and are looked down upon by the communists as being an affectation of the "social parasite" classes. There are a few pool clubs but they are members only and not advertised. There are also a few tables in private homes..leftovers from the pre-revolutionary days. The lack of replacement parts and cloth not to mention money to buy such things means that most of the tables are in a sad state. :frown:

The above is just one of the thousands of reasons why I hate communists so much, and Cuban communists even more.

A walk through Havana is sad, the once beautiful homes and buildings have been reduced to crumbling unsafe eyesores by the lack of even the most basic maintenance.

As far as crime is concerned, there really isn't much. Tourists have been robbed and injured, but it is an extremely rare occurrence.

Don't know about the pool rooms but I had a friend who used to go bass fishing in Cuba back in the 70's......He said it was some of the best bass fishing anywhere in the world and he was a serious bass fisherman.

Think the U.S. Government needs to life all trade, and travel restrictions with Cuba, as I would like to visit Cuba, and buy me a Classic CAR.

Maybe the Cubans would like a NEW Corvette, or F-150 to drive, and dump those old relics.

When I was growing up in Miami the family down the street were from Cuba, and the mother’s cooking rocked. Chicken and Rice, Plus Friend Banana were just too yummy.
