I Am So Over Earl

It's very distracting, but I don't think it's intentional sharking, like someone who is quiet when you get down on the shot then jingles his keys as you pull the trigger. That's intentional sharking.

He reminded Shane that he could make Earl shoot again, so he does honor the game. He just doesn't realize what he is doing to himself and the game he loves so much.

Maybe if he saw an old tape of himself then a replay of what he looks like now, he would see how he disgraces himself.

Imagine what he would be like if he had the outlook of someone like Joel Osteen.

Can Joel draw his rock?

I'm one of the people who flew thousands of miles to him play only to be singled out and informed, "I want[ed] him to lose and think he shoud just die." We got a chuckle out of it but we aren't laughing with him. He constantly complains we're all on Shane's side and if chosing one over the other was a concern he lost my support with that tirade.

The funniest thing is everything he complains about he does to Shane. "Oh, there's too much movement over there", "Oh I can't play because everyone is talking while I shoot!". There is NO movement, there is NO talking, except for one person and that's Earl. It's all he does while Shane plays, and while that's not sharking and just ignorance, he did intentionally shark Shane on a shot and caused him to miss. Shane converses with us on occasion but for the most part he's focused on his game. After that though, he uttered something about Earl I hope didn't come through on the streams. He's fed up with his crap too.

TAR and CSI have done a great job, there's nothing wrong with the equipment or the audience. One of the players however is missing some Lithium.

he's done

Earl cant win anymore so this is what he has turned into, a side-show. He knows he cant win and this is the only way he can stay in the spot light. Sad.

Just for the record, Earl DOES NOT get away with this crap at the U.S. Open or anywhere else that I'm officiating. That's why he doesn't like me. Ken Shuman and I will not put up with it. I swear I saw him turning beet red at the Open this year because he wanted to act up and was forced to sit quietly in his chair. He knew I was watching him. We made it abundantly clear at the player's meeting that we would not tolerate unsportsmanlike conduct.

johnnyt...While I agree with you in principle (and I am purposely a strong supporter of 'correct' behavior at the table), this is neither match play or tournament play...it is gambling...plain and simple. There are no "standards"...and never have been, for gambling behavior. To suggest anything else is ludicrous, imo. There has been 'sharking' behavior for as long as there has been gambling...in every sport. Back in the day, you HAD to learn to fade sharking...because it was the way people played. Why everyone singles out Earl is beyond me. Watch or don't watch...it's as simple as that.

I never thought I would say this but I'm finished watching Earl play. Until the powers that be hold him to the same standard as every other player he will continue his sharking and bad sportsmanship. I can not believe someone hasn't slapped the $hit out of him yet for his sharking. To me a true pool player shouldn't think his actions are funny or good for the game. Earl is one of the greatest players ever but how he acts in matches takes a lot away from that. Johnnyt

King T...So I guess the win over Shane, earlier this year, and two weeks later over Archer mean nothing? Earl can win anytime he chooses to...if he wants it bad enough. I get so tired of this "Earl can't play anymore" BS.

You are 100% correct Scott, He is a challenge to any player in the world!

I don't know where you gambled, but where I gambled we didn't put up with BS like Earl's. If they were known sharkers or a$$hoes they didn't get a game. If you got stuck in a game and he turned out to be a sharker we told him once. If it happened again he would be very sorry. Too many lawyers and pussies around these days. Johnnyt

Can he still win?

Scott Lee - you are right about a win over SVB on a 10' table..., dont see many of them anymore in major tourny's... but a win is a win...., He might beat any american player one on one on a given day, but he hasnt won a major tourny in a long time and on the world stage is not even talked about as a threat.

I have lots of Accu-Stats tapes of Earl, love what he can do on the table, but if you look at those tapes and look at him now, I think he's done. Its not his ability, its his HEART..., he gives up and thats way he's done..,

His antics have grown tiresome and old- I think everybody agrees on that

I enjoy watching him play though because of how rapidly he can run out a rack and his tremendous ability

I found it fascinating to what his demonstration of spin at the 54 min mark of the pre-match podcast. What a stroke!

King T...Which is why I said he had wins against the top two American players just earlier this year...and I also said he can win if he wants it bad enough. I certainly agree that he gives up, and that accounts mostly for why he doesn't win more. BTW, Earl won a big 1-pocket event in NC not too long ago...and that's not even his game.

Personally, I think Earl has earned the right to act any way he wants to, that's just Earl being Earl. What's funny, is all of you who complain about Earl and his actions....are either right here WATCHING him play, or at least checking in on how this TAR match is going, that in itself makes many of you hypocrites, say one thing...but do another. If other players don't like the way Earl acts, all they have to do is NOT play him, but I don't see any other players coming up with the CASH to play Earl, not because of Earl...but because of the lack of CASH to go up AGAINST Earl, because they really don't want any part of his playing game. Woof talking has been going on since way back when and is NOTHING new to this game, or any other type of sport of competition for that matter, but if the peanut gallery watching and complaining about Earl want to see something more calm, maybe you should go to watch a church choir singing in harmony or something, maybe even to to the library and check out a book to read and go sit at a table by yourself and read something interesting...to you. No, all you guys do is complain, so that all of you complainers have something to complain about...with each other, like your complaints are really going to amount to something. If you don't like the MOVIE playing, get the hell up and leave, or shut up so that others might just enjoy the show.

Well, you know I've got a lot of respect for you Jay, and I'm really looking forward to playing some 1-hole with you at the D.C.C., but on this point,
"I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH YOUR DECISION TO LEAN ON EARL!"

In another post today, a guy says his wife (who doesn't even care about pool) sat down to watch the match last night, just to root against Earl, and get this,
she knew him by name!

The guy is the biggest crowd draw ever, still to this day! Those stands were barren at the Open around the T.V. table, but not if Earl was playing!
Like it or not my friend, "our sport" needs this kind of "star power, RIGHT NOW." Earl reminds me so much of Ty Cobb, the contributions each made to their respective games, as well as, "the personal quirks" each possess.
Pool is just a little closer to the public, so you see and hear just a little bit more of the inner personal "DAWGING" than in baseball.

You hear Gregg Sullivan and Mark Griffin talking about making the playing conditions tougher and how that will gain more respect for this sport, in the public's eye. But in truth, personalities that the public has interest in, pro or con, gets their ATTENTION! So does anyone but the pro players care about how tough it is to pocket a ball on a table?
Or for that matter, if (indisputably) the premier "rotational-type-game" player (of all time) is "TAME?"

See you in Elisabeth just doesn't have the ring of see you in Louisville, does it?
I guess it's all just in one's perspective!

Johnnyt...I've gambled all over the country. I didn't say I LIKED that behavior...I said it has always existed (still does today), and that's it's unlikely to change. If you don't like (or can't fade) the behavior, then don't play. Personally nobody can shark me, because I've trained myself to ignore it. The quickest way to shut up a sharker is to WIN. Violence isn't necessary.

so because its gambling its okay to act like a jackass, insult your opponent and try to throw him off?Well if thats the case should Shane hoof him in the balls everytime he gets down to shoot? So since sharking has been around from the start of time,it should never be corrected and maybe improved upon? After awhile ,its got nothing to do with being a better sportsman but has everything to do with being a better person!

We all know of Charles Mansons name to, but doesn't mean I want him over for dinner.I agree with Jay,just because your Earl doesn't give you the right to disrespect the rest of the field that is there for the same reasons you are.
If 20 guys acted like Earl the refs would have to carry stun guns!
