I 100% agree except for him being baited. He would never get a penny of mine. A whole lot of others agree.

I get messages and rep all the time because of the things Glen says... like this....

"Please do not think all of us mechanics are like him. Half of us do not post anymore because of him. You have had all of us very entertained! thank you!"

and this:

"Thanks for making me feel like I'm not alone. He's a d*ck."

Its amazing how many people feel the same way I do and wont say a word.

Am I???? hmmmmm I've actually played on more than one table that you slobbered your ego all over. I know this because the people that owned the table made it seem like it was something special that you put their cloth on. I found nothing special about the tables. But it doesn't matter what I think, I'm a nobody.

Please read my thread in "talk to a Mechanic". My Centennial looked nice but did not play right. The real King Cobra gave me Mark Gregory's name. When you see what he did to my table to get it "right", you will understand the value of a true specialist, and what goes into the right set up. I watched Mark block my slate and that is hard work. Not just Artemis rubber, but also calibrating the rails. I could go on and on, but it is in the thread. Finding Mark or Glenn to get your table right is well worth the cost, because if we care enough to participate in these forums, we all love the game. I will never let another local hack tough the table.
 
Well, Ken, did you decide on a table yet, have you bought one. Did not want to read all posts to find out. Tom

No problem, I have 16 Diamonds to work on in the Houston area, as well as rebuilding a Gold Crown and a Gandy, same area, so I don't think I'm suffering from the lack of work....do you? I can't do all the work I get requests for now, how can I possibly lose work? Maybe you could recommend someone in the Houston area that can rebuild rails to me so I can pass it along to everyone in that area trying to get me to work on their pool tables, just make sure they can do the job right...as I've seen the kind of work done to the tables in your area already, and I'm NOT impressed.

Really....then who's table did you play on, because I've only rebuilt a few tables up in the NE, so who's table?

I happen to agree with you. I've played on a few of his tables too. They play good but not as good as RKC talks them up.

My Gold Crown plays great. Rails have been calibrated and properly extended. My table is table 5 from the Tulsa Billiard Palace. This was the big action table there for many years. I forget the table mechanics name but he lives in the mid west somewhere. I think Oklahoma somewhere. Set up locally by David Danziger who does great work. Pocket castings have been shimmed to get them flush. Based on all this I am very happy with how it plays. Plus, my Gold Crown is prolly one of the niceset in the country. All wood has been fully retored and all metal hase been properly stripped, polished and re-plated. I've seen some of the tables you have done and they are not always pretty. I understand that's based on how far the customer wants to go when it comes to re-finishing it. For me, if I am going to put the table inside my home I would like it to look good as well as play good.

I don't do restoration work, I just fix/repair/replace, or build new what's already wrong with the tables I work on. I make tables play right, because there's plenty of tables around that look great, but play like shit. I do the things no one else is doing to make the tables play right, I don't just install new cloth and say..."there, your table looks like new"...that's what installers do. I also don't work on junk shit, just to get a paycheck, that's what installers do. I'd rather pass on a job, than steal someone's money working on something that should have been thrown away in the first place, but that's just me I guess. And yes, there's a lot of great installers out here in the world, but just as this industry needs installers, it also needs someone that knows how to fix the pool tables right....after some of these installers are done doing what they've done to the tables, and to fix what the manufactures did when they designed the tables in the first place. So, for that kind of work...I guess I'm an a$%#$le to some people, because I do the job RIGHT the first time, after everyone else has had their turn.

Please, do me a favor and explain what that statement means, what was done to your rails to calibrate them in the first place? Because that statement means nothing to someone that knows what it really means to calibrate a set of rails, do you?...did you see the work being done to know that your rails were calibrated? I know everyone that can calibrate a set of rails in this country, and none of them live any where near you in TX or OK.

I think it was Jack Shurtz. He is the best of the best. And one hell of a nice guy. Great precision skills and beautiful wood working skills. And did I mention a very pleasant fellow..

Yes, you mentioned Jack is a very pleasant person, but you forgot to mention what he did to "calibrate" the rails on your pool table:cool:

Let's call a trues. I don't know Jack personally. Only met him the day I picked the tables up. Called him several times after wards and he was always very nice. Wanted his stain formula he used on the tables so that I could finish some furniture to match. He was happy to tell me the formula he used. Yes, I would presume he is getting up in the years, but we all do. Table plays damn good. Has new K-55 rubber by David Danziger. Jack refinished these tables to museum quality and did solid wood extended rails. Pockets are about 4.25" give or take and only has one pocket facing. To me there is no reason to spend the $1,500 you mentioned since playability wise it's all ready been done to a level at least 75% as good as yours. The marginal improvement is not worth the added cost. That's just me.
