I drove 7 hours to Georgia after renting a uhaul trailer to buy and pick up a Diamond that was in my price range. I don't regret it at all. The table gets played on almost every day.
Diamonds are my table of choice, for many of the reasons John B. already pointed out. I believe if I would have bought a GC I would have been disappointed. I am as happy as I can be with the playability of my table.
If you want a Diamond, don't settle. If you look hard enough, you will find something that works in your price range. I know guys who have purchased them in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee all for under $3k, a few under $2k. There are deals out there, you just have to find them.
