New table in my future

I drove 7 hours to Georgia after renting a uhaul trailer to buy and pick up a Diamond that was in my price range. I don't regret it at all. The table gets played on almost every day.

Diamonds are my table of choice, for many of the reasons John B. already pointed out. I believe if I would have bought a GC I would have been disappointed. I am as happy as I can be with the playability of my table.

If you want a Diamond, don't settle. If you look hard enough, you will find something that works in your price range. I know guys who have purchased them in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee all for under $3k, a few under $2k. There are deals out there, you just have to find them.
 
I actually love the way the Dymondwood rails"grain" comes alive and yes it is a hardened plywood but after it is milled it gets interesting.
They start out ugly but the finished product looks great.

BTW expect to spend at least 1500 dollars to make whatever GC table you buy setup right.

If Simonis is $200 and Artemis Cushions are $200, where does the extra $1100 plus go?

On this site people occasionally sell Simonis for $200.
In the last 5 years I've had two tables set up, both times the cloth being
$200. The first time the cushions were $185 and the second time
$250. So that's $385 to $450. So my question is still the same, where
does the $1100+ go? If a table takes 7-8 hours to set up that equals $140+
an hour. It that correct? My 2 Brunswicks play better than any other tables i've played on! Don't think it's fair to say "any gc you buy will need at least $1500 plus work done on it to play right". That's total bs IMO.

I just was in Terre Haute and a good friend of mine offered a Gold Crown 1 with new Simonis cloth for $1000. Tempting I admit. He said the table was perfect and even had all the orginal stickers on it....

Thoughts?

I've played on perfectly set up Anniversaries, Diamonds and GCIs.

I would jump on that GC1, just because, at that price, you can get it set up and try it out for some time and if you don't like it, you can always sell it and at you will have tried it, it is not a lifetime commitment, you can always go with a Diamond later. Tom
 
I wish I could have found a deal on cloth and artimus intercontental K66 cushions like that!

My table took 4 days to redo. That is 32 hours, for building the subrails up, Calbrating the rails ext.

It could be longer if the subrails needed replaced.

Why would it take that long? I don't understand. I had Ernesto and Oscar do my table. They installed the cushions which I believe took a few hours for them, let the glue sit for a couple of days then came over to set the table up.
They were at my house for 6 hours. So lets say the whole job took 10 to 12 hours. The best table I've ever played on and I've played on a ton of tables.

There was a lot more to do to my table then just gluing on cushions, and installing cloth.

The true cost of a Gold Crown is fixing the problems created by others.

I just bought tournament blue 860 HR for my 9' table for $189 from a reputable dealer here in Oregon. Funny thing is I called him up and ordered it and didn't even ask the price because I know he has always taken care of me in the past. I frankly expected it to be a hundred dollars more. He got me the install DVD's too. He must be independently wealthy!! Come to think of it, that is the story on the street:)

let's not for get hidden costs

recently I asked for help in this forum. I stored my antique non pareliel novelty and had my centennital set up, not once but twice. It was not paying right. I was given Mark Gregory's contact. Fortunately, he was only 3 hours away. He came and is rebuilding my under rails calibrating the rails, replacing the rubber with Artemis, leveling and replacing all Simonis 860. I am outside Jacksonville, Mark lives in Atlanta, 5 hours away. He had to go back, and tomorrow will come back here, and on to? Unless you are lucky to have a great table man nearby, you have road travel expenses, time and hotels as well into the cost. I think is is well worth it.
