TAR 22 Post-Match with Earl & Joe Rogan

Clearly cleary being in biz with risky biz would be risky.

Jason, I work in the television industry as a freelance artist. For the past 5 months I've been working for a competitor of ESPN that mostly does NBA/NHL, but also does some smaller sports as well. I understand how these places work and there is a method to their madness. I know what production costs are and know why ESPN cannot just make it rain all over pool players. They would not get a return on their investment and would end up losing a lot of money in the end. For any business transaction to work, both sides must benefit. Television is the same. If ESPN doesn't benefit from pool, pool cannot benefit from ESPN. Its just that simple.

WAY to much LOGIC being thrown around. As they say "common" sense isn't so common.

If I had a thread wand. I would make this one disappear . Would like
to see this much effort going into helping pool. Rather than bashing our players and sport

Earl wasn't asked to "work" for ESPN. That I know of, Earl has zero production abilities or knowledge. I doubt he knows anything about producing, editing or being a coordinator. He would be worthless working for ESPN... he might be an OK intern or production assistant but he shouldn't expect to get much if any money doing that work.

But as far as being ON EPSN... he was playing in a tournament and trying to win that prize fund. That is his work and what he does. EPSN would break even at best with production costs and whatever they put into a prize fund. Giving the players royalties and simply crazy and that would never happen with any other sport.

The more pool can be on tv, the more it can gain a marketable audience. The more it could attract sponsors and actual money down the road. It doesn't just happen out of nowhere. If people are watching, sponsors will follow. Sometimes you gotta get the shitty end of the stick to invest in a future. The players decided they cared more about themselves than pool. I cannot say pool would be doing great now either way, but they certainly didn't help.

I don't even know why I'm bothering, you clearly have no idea how things work in the real world. I do.

As someone mentioned earlier a lot of female pool players have gotten air time. That has resulted in zip for pool in general. It didn't work. Why else would we be discussing how to keep pool from dying?

You don't know how things work in the real world if you can't tell when something clearly doesn't work. This is a great place to find grandiose ideas to make pool popular that don't work and never will.

What they should be doing is focusing on how to make an unpopular sport successful and rewarding for those who do like it. Golf is for people who want to socialize with people more successful than them and pretend they're doing something outdoorsy and healthy at the same time. Pool is for people who like to run racks.

Brilliant!

"You know what it looks like when ESPN comes in and films something? ... The Blair Witch Project."

Wow, funny and so true. They aren't the only ones, but I hate it when we're focused on the player and shot and right when the player hits the cue ball, we get hit with another camera angle.

We get it. Pool sucks. Nothing will ever save it. We should all go kill a baby dolphin.

Earl is a true american classic. He's hilarious, and when he's on he's still one of the greatest players on earth.

"I'll shoot your liver out and hand it to you." That's got to be one of the all time best pool quotes.

If you can see a spelling bee on ESPN but not pool then that should be telling you something- that spelling bees are more popular than pool. As I said earlier- you're the one who doesn't understand economics, not me.

If you want to see a good example of a fool take a look at someone who asserts that pool was ruined by Earl because he wouldn't give his image to ESPN for free, yea so many years ago. Take a reality pill.

Okay well you just go ahead and ask earl the next time you see him how this all worked out for him economically bro

Irrelevant in the first place and in the second place I haven't seen any evidence that Earl is doing as poorly as some people here imply.

I never said or implied any such thing. And if you didn't implicitly agree with what I'm saying you wouldn't be doing what you're doing.

You really have no idea at all what you are talking about.

You really have no idea at all what you are talking about.

You stream live matches on TAR because you know the ESPN route is a dead end. Isn't there someone at TAR who has frequently said that live streams are the future of pool? So why knock Earl because he refused to let ESPN use his image for free a hundred years ago?

That's because your uninformed yet voicing your irrelevant opinion like you know what's going on

I don't have an opinion about how well things are going for Earl and it's no concern of mine anyway. I only stated that I hadn't seen any evidence that Earl was doing as poorly as some people here imply. Which, in any case, if true, would only be more evidence of the dead end state of pool in the US.

But if it makes you feel better to proclaim how much more you know than me then don't let irrelevance hold you back.

how is anyone still discussing this with this guy, its obvious this is way over his head by the points hes trying to make?
