What cue, shaft and tip do the az instructors play with? Hoping to hear from Randy G., Scott L., Bob J. and any others who may want to chime in. Also do you change configurations for different games? Don't care about jumpers. Thanks.

Willie Mosconi began Mastering his stroke by hitting potatoes with a broom stick on a kitchen table...

it's the motion of the arm that is important.. the mechanics of the stroke.. not the tools that you are using at the time...

worry about what YOU do.. perfect that.. and you will make progress...

it's the only way TO make progress..

Potatoes?

Til now McDaniel with regular shaft- 12.9 mm. Kamui Hard

From tomorrow on :p
Keith Josey Ebony Fullsplice- Both shafts 12.75 (think Everest installed).

But played each available shafts in the last time- was curious about all the available shafts- and still no holy gral :)
Everyone can fit with each shaft- you just have to stay with it. Even regular or LD shafts. As long as you stay long enough with it, you will benefit from staying with your material.

Predator P3 cue with 314-2 shaft. Kmaui black soft tip. No worries about the jumper. I stopped wearing them when I was 10.

13mm shaft... right now using a Johnson Cue, but also use an Omen quite a lot. All of my cues, with the exception of my Jerico, have Kamui Hard tips. The Jerico has Moori Quicks.

I use a Balabushka with a Jim Buss carom shaft that was retapered to something like a pool shaft by Rick Chudy. It's about 11.5mm. I tend to use the same cue for all games but I have been using a snooker cue for snooker lately.

Thanks Bob and all who responded. Was not looking for the perfect combination, just curious what some well rounded players would be using in the age of LD shafts. Randy G. Is probably pretty busy with his fifty year anniversary accomplishment. Great job Randy, not too many people have those type of successes. Randy could give great pool lessons with a dash of marriage counseling to boot! Many pool players could use both!

Break Cue: Mace by Rick Howard with his standard leather tip.

Playing cues are all 60 inches except for the Viking.

Favorite Cues
1. Mike Bender, stiff taper 12mm Mori
2. Jim Buss 13 mm stiff taper Triangle tip
3. Ray Schuler 12 mm stiff American Taper shaft Triangle tip
4. Richard Black 13mm standard pro taper Triangle tip.
5. Greg Pierce 13mm pro taper Triangle tip.
6. Viking production cue from the 1970s 11mm Triangle Tip
7. Jeff Prather full splice wrapless hoppe ring 12mm stiff taper Triangle tip.

My Bender came with the Mori tips which I will use till they need replacing then I will put on some Triangles.

Play with what feels good to you.

doesnt going from a 12mm shaft to a 13mm shaft or vice versa feel weird???

No not really. I prefer the 12mm shafts and play with them more often but 13mm isn't a problem. Oddly enough the deflection of these cues is pretty close to the same and I can adjust after a rack or two with little problem. I use ivory ferrules also.

I play with Samsara cues. They came with GREAT shafts (all 13mm). I also have a G-Core shaft and a Tiger UltraX, both are 11.75mm. They are my favorites. I am currently using Moori medium and Kamui med tips. Like Rufus, I have no trouble adapting to different size shafts. Takes me about 2-3 shots to adjust.

I don't mind at all.

I play with a set of matched JERICO's. Ebony based and sterling silver stars (Texas Lone Stars) for inlays. Both have a Schuler joint.

My player is 18oz. I use either an OB clasic pro shaft or a G-core from McDermott. Both shafts have Moori mediums. Both shafts come in at 11.75mm.
My B/J is a 13mm with a harder tip? and about 18oz.

Nope, one shaft for most games.

My best playing years ('80-'95) I played with MEUCCI ORIGINALS. I tried a variety of cues in the past decade and liked many of them (Predator SP, Scruggs, Frey, Pechauer). My current shooter is an '87 Joss. I have five shafts for it, the one I'm using now is an original 314 w/Moori M.
