This was my worst experience ever. The hotel accommodations are of the worst I've been. They no longer offer a breakfast buffet, nor any food whatsoever from roughly 3 to 6 am which is prime time action hours. The food at every restaurant is garbage and overpriced with the exception of Binions, which is overpriced and service is so so. We even got complimentary desert because there was a "mix up" in the kitchen. Legends may be the worst sports bar food Ive ever had, and the buffet is food poisoning waiting to happen. I ate there once got a piece of fried chicken with blood filled in the middle. I had a few veggies and left. Also they completely screw people with the prices of beverages 2.25 for a can of coke. I actually did buy some stuff for the room but you can't walk back and forth every time you wish to quench your thirst.

The action was decent overall, but somethings never change. If I go again it will be for two nights minimum and probably stay in New Albany where you get free wifi at least.

Agree with you in all aspects, except the food poisoning isn't "waiting to happen." I've been poisoned three of the last four years - in Binion's! GF

They used to have some good restaurants at the boat, but they keep changing them around and now they hardly have any good food there.

Ate at that sports bar at last year's Derby and it wasn't bad. Had a good french onion soup one night and a pretty good platter of fish and chips the next night.

But yeah, if you stay up the road in New Albany the rooms are cheaper and you can stop by the Rustic Frog for a tuna sandwich on your way home for the night.

We have been eating at Lancasters, right on Main in New Albany. Great food cafeteria style.

I do love the dcc, but the food critics here have it right. Sucks and is way overpriced. I drove from Lexington twice so far and packed my own food each time.

My usual routine was to go down to breakfast at the buffet about 9:30AM or so when it was breakfast price but the lunch items were starting to come out. That generally got me through to evening when I would grab a quick chili dog. I never got sick but it was pretty monotonous. The breakfast/lunch buffet at $10 or so was OK on price. Maybe it's changed in the last couple of years.

If last year was your only DCC then there is no way for you to have experienced the greatness that was once the DCC. When the tournament was held at the executive west it was fantastic. The old place had that "it factor" that can't be explained or duplicated.

The end of the executive west was the end of an era. It is still a great tournament but it has a completely different feel to it now.

I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, however I have always found the food at Binion's Steak House to be first rate.

In four years of eating there, always at least a couple of nights, I have never had a less than excellent meal (OK, one time there was a little too much sherry in the lobster bisque.) Maybe you guys should try eating at the bar and letting Mark take care of you.

This year I had a good Caesar salad, an outstanding Pacific salmon, and a wonderful chardonnay. The next night I had a lump crab cocktail (tons of lump crab), filet mignon (cooked perfectly to my specs), and a nice cabernet. Both meals were exceptional. Was it cheap? No. Was it what exceptional food in an upscale relaxing atmosphere costs nowadays? Yes.

Having said that, I have tried (and would never try again) the Paula Deen buffet (Cracker Barrel has a better buffet). I don't know about the the sports bar and the new Asian place looked like a waste, so I passed. YMMV.

I liked the buffet. I won a couple at the boat and enjoyed each time. I don't expect to get the $.99 menu at a casino. The food is a lot better than the EW had to offer.

I liked the old venue, but it is no longer an option, so let it rest. Anyway, Southern Indiana has more to offer than Central Louisville any day of the week.

Derby

This was my first year going. Me and Jim Pierce went . We found a deal on a rental car for 120 bucks for the week . The first day there we tried legends restaurant and it was pretty good. next morning we drove into clarksville and went to Bob Evans for breakfast, that was excellent, so we did it the next couple days too, so then we decide to go to legends again for dinner and the frickin place is closed on mondays and tuesdays, what the hell is that all about. Tuesday we gambled for 30 minutes in the casino so we can get a free buffet, that worked out good, next day me ,Jim and Rodney Morris and Amar drove into town and went to Texas Roadhouse, that was good. That Steak house at the casino is way too expensive so we both said F that.
The Action is great there , nonstop, but thats it, otherwise it's boring as hell, Jim was going stir crazy. its not like Vegas or Philly , where there is tons of venders and other things going on. We went, we checked it out but we both agree we will never go again.

I still think this is a great tourney. As for the food. I ate the buffet twice. First time was dinner, $21.39... a little high for me, for the amount of things I can put away. But for my friend who likes oysters, it's a great deal. The other time, I bought my 2 room mates breakfast, at about $12 each. The food was pretty good both times. But, when I leave home, to play in a tourney, paying for a hotel and entry fee's, I am going to make money not on a vacation. I take a cooler, and some food to have in the room. Some soda for the room, and bottled water to carry around later. There are lots of good points about the E.W. days, but I don't see that as an option to go back to. And when the new tournies start happening around the Country, I ain't sure how well the DCC will hold up. I hope it helps generate more people and interest. But we will have to wait and see

A second Greg Sullivan event has been announced for Tunica, MS from 7/20/12 to 7/28/12. Same format as DCC.

Eventually, Greg may have one or two others of a similar nature, thereby creating something of a mini tour.

This was announced this week at DCC.
