From the Derby City Forum -- The Winner of the Louie Roberts Award is Simply Amazing

I'm the last person that wants to put false info out there. This info came from three VERY credible sources. If you're saying that the comment about how long I was there didn't affect this decision than you're being untrue. .

You're forcing me to reply. Jason, I take the votes in. There is no dis-qualifier or qualifier about how long you stay at the Derby. If your length of stay influences any individual voter, that may be true. But that's each individual's person's decision to make. The final tallying of the votes makes no such qualifier or dis-qualifier.

People watch. People vote. Some people even campaign.

How many total votes did you receive? Can you post the votes per person? Even elections in Illinois post some kind of numbers. :p

Steve, you're asking a Floriduhh resident to post vote tallys? Does the words "hanging chads" mean anything to you??

Eric >and I don't mean, "hang Chad"

Florida - Illinois. Tomato - Tomoto

I thought Fred was from Boston. And to be clear, I have no issue with Fred - this is just where the state of the pool world is at, moreso the past 5 years.

Can we see the votes?

Its amazing what a year can do,last year at this TIME all i heard was about how Tony Coleman was a piece of shi-,for throwing games at last years DCC,now Tony is a action hero,a goat to hero in a years time, just maybe all the talk about last year was a lot of bull,BUT THERE WAS LOTS OF TALK ABOUT IT HERE AT AZ,so what is it, is Tony great for honest action or just any kind of action!

hey, hey, hey, no reason to bring the deceased voters into this (they all voted for Gentile anyway).

all I can say is voting is voting; how many times have you seen/heard of the best singer not moving on in American Idol?? Tony must have had the 9-14 year old girls' vote....

39 Individual Voters submitted votes (highest number of individual voters since web forums were asked to vote)

Vote Tallying System: Borda System

Coleman - 24%
Gentile - 23%
Kirkus - 14%
Danny Smith 12%
Richie Richeson - 8%

John Henderson, Scooter, Deathball, Timmy Heath, Brian White, Cardone, and Kent from KC also received votes

If I did it by HoF voting (equal vote for every time a person is named), the positions don't change.

Have at it. I would have rather had a landslide.

Thanks for posting that Fred. Only 39 voters??? I hope everyone here who is discussing it at least was one of the 39. I know I was and I only voted for one guy.

That should explain everything. Tony, the four guys he roomed with, his girlfriend, his parents, and his brother-in-law-twice-removed voted for him and it was done.

I would much rather have my money back than this award, no offense. Hotel rooms are much cheaper :).

I literally laughed for a minute when I read this statement.

Also, if the winner is required to be there for the duration then the obvious choices are Gentile or Richie.

If it was based on the Borda system, IBA you should have voted for your guy and then voted for yourself as second place and Fred for third place. That would have given more weight to your guy in the overall picture.

Did J Rock vote? Just curious.

24% of 39 votes comes to 9.4 votes for Tony.
23% of 39 votes comes to 8.97 votes for Chris.

Assuming some rounding issues, 24% can mean anything from 23.51 to 24.49.
23.51% of 39 votes comes to 9.17 votes for Tony &
24.49% of 39 votes comes to 9.55 votes for Tony.

Assuming some rounding issues, 23% can mean anything from 22.51 to 23.49.
22.51% of 39 votes comes to 8.78 votes for Chris &
23.49% of 39 votes comes to 9.16 votes for Chris.

They both had to get 9 votes.

If Tony got 10 (to Chris' 9 votes), that would equate to 25.6% of the votes, which would not be mistaken for 24%.

Either way, the math doesn't add up. Maybe I'm failing math today.

Mosoniac -- you need to google Borda system so you understand how the voting is tallied. Your math does not work under this accounting system for votes.

It's a Borda-3 system. And not everyone put up 3 names. It has always been optional. Some people put two names. Some even put four. Sorry, I stop at three and it's clear.

I will repeat that I was going to be sick announcing this since it was so close. With every question that comes up, I get sicker.

Maybe I should just not bother answering, but I think I need to answer or else the whole idea of above board voting will go out the window.

No reason to be sick about it Fred....you just tallied the votes. It's obvious that more folks needed to vote. I would think that more than 39 folks come on here attended the Derby.

Fred,

You and I talked about this throughout the week and I knew it would be tough and a highly criticized (what isnt in pool???) vote. My hat is off to you and what you do and all the issues/questioning you face each year. It was good to see you again.
