Like To See 15 Ball Rotation On TAR

When they play 15 ball rotation in the PI do combos count? Johnnyt

I always played combos count. I also played all illegally pocketed balls
went on the spot. Don't know if that's a rule or not.

P.S. change your sig back to the bar box is not a toy! LOL

The way Efren and Busty played, combo's counted. If you shot a 3-11 combo, making the 11 would add that to your score and you continued on.

I didn't understand all of the rules. Kicking was different. You could hit a rail before the object ball and as long as you hit the correct OB, no ball had to touch a rail after.

Also, if you were hooked you could give up BIH behind the line and the OB would spot on the footspot.

There were more rules but they didn't go over them and those are the ones I could figure out based solely on observation.

Thank you. Sounds like solid game.

A friend and I play 15 ball rotation three or four nights a week. We play call shot, one point per ball to 50 points, Any foul is ball in hand for the opponent. Whoever makes the 15 ball has the next break. We rack the one if front, two in the middle and three at the back canter. This makes it difficult to get a break and run, though it can be done. Great game, takes about one hour per game and we often play three games.

Playing to 50 points (balls) allows the opponent to recover when one player gets a couple of good runs. I like it better than any other game as it requires all skills including good defense.

Efren vs. Ronnie on a Diamond 10 footer playing Filipino "Rotation" or "61" would be epic. Wanna see some amazing kicking with a full rack on the table? Just look at the youtube video exhibition of them playing at a mall in the Philippines. To me, this is why the Filipinos are so good at kicking and maneuvering through traffic. Because they have to deal with it all the time in the early phases of a rack of "Rotation".

If it's going to be on TAR there would have to be a quick primer or crash course demo explaining the rules before the match. And there should be at least one commentator on the mic who knows the Filipino style rules.

We want 15 ball rotation, we want 15 ball rotation, we want 15 ball rotation.
Not 8, not 9, not 10, but all 15 balls. Johnnyt

Absolutely, But I'm afraid that when everyone starts feeling like 10 ball is too easy, they're going to go to 12 ball or something. I agree, lets go straight to rotation. I can't stand 9 ball, but I love rotation.

Only problem is, it's tough to find a way to practice the game in order to get an edge on competition. Maybe I'm gonna have to add 5 balls and play 20 ball rotation haha.

Well if Mark said he would pass on 15 ball rotation its probably dead in the water. The US players would not like playing the PI players that game anyway. That was their big money game for years in the PI. Johnnyt

It still is! It is a great game. I wonder why players in US don't play it? Too difficult or they don't want to keep score?

Maybe it doesn't look like it on the surface, but it is a very tactical game.

There used to be a match video on youtube from japan of two players competing at an interesting version of rotation. All rules applied, except instead of playing to 61 points, it was to 300 points (I think). They played through the racks and accumulated the points much in the same way as straight pool, only no break balls.

I've tried it myself, it's a very fun version of the game, and it forces you to try to run the entire 15 which as we all know is tough.

This is how I was taught how to play rotation. It's a good game, no ball in hand just a couple of options when your opponent fouls.

After sinking the sinking the last ball in a rack the cue ball must land in the kitchen area and you break from where it lays. If it doesn't reach the kitchen you give up your break to the opposing player.

Games can be up to 180 240 300 etc.

There really isn't any fouls in 15 ball rotation - only bad hits. The result of a bad hit is that incoming player can have you shoot again or shoot the shot where it lies or spot the object ball and and shoot from behind the line. It is very interesting and fun. For a shot to be considered a good hit, the shooter only needs to make the cue ball hit the object ball. Cue ball or object ball does not have to hit a rail after contact.

I've never heard of it played that way.

Cue ball or object ball must hit a rail or it is a foul. Incoming player has the option of taking the table as is, spotting the lowest numbered ball in the center or foot spot, taking the cue ball in kitchen, or taking the cue ball in the kitchen and spotting the lowest numbered ball.

Sounds like an interesting way to play. In the case of a scratch how do you play? BIH?

I'm talking about Filipino 15 ball rotation. No BIH ever.

I tried it after I watched it. I loved it, it's my second favorite pool game after 14.1.

15 ball rotation was right up there with 14.1 from 1940's to 1970's on the East coast. There are/were a lot of different 15 rotation games and a lot of different rules to play them. You had Chicago, money ball, pay ball, and 61, to name a few. I had a 9 table room on Long Island and the two front tables were always going with 4 players each playing partners (money for the 1,5,10,15 ball + highest count. Those two table paid the rent and everything else. The other 7 tables were all profit. Johnnyt

I really think that most players would like it if they gave it a try. You can change the rules to fit your skill level. Johnnyt

But......14.1pocket asked you about BIH AFTER A SCRATCH. If someone scratches, is the game over at that point ? It would be hard to continue from that point without a BIH.

Also, what if a player jumps the cueball off of the table? Must the incoming player shoot the shot from wherever the cueball comes to rest on the floor? I know the Filipinos are good, but are they THAT good???

Maniac (through being a smart-ass for the moment :sorry:)

Absolutely, But I'm afraid

20 balls? What are you, some kind of girly man?!!?
