Fury 14.1 chopped???

I saw in another thread where it was aluded to that Mika and CW chopped the final of the Fury 14.1 instead of playing the final match.... Can anyone provide actuals to what went down???

I would think that if the ABP wants to be something when they grow up this type of issue should be on the top of their list.... Any player member caught in a dump or chop situation should be fined and barred from play for a period of play... Policing themselves would go a great way towards restoring some modicum of respect imho.......

Well, that's a little depressing...kinda shows the priority of 14.1 in the minds of the players, orgranizers, & promoters. They just had better things to do.

Thanks for the links to the other threads... I normally would have done some searching but I have been under the weather for over a month now and my meds don't leave me but a few lucid moments at times......

I'd put this one mainly on the players and by proxy the ABP (both are members and one is a board member) pooping on the fans, the promoter, and the volunteers. The event was not a listed event being promoted by Hopkins and in fact he donated the booth space to hold the thing. I'm sure Allen was not thrilled that some spectators that paid admission to his Expo on Sunday expecting to get to see the 14.1 final as part of that fee, were disappointed also. Not to mention that a good portion of the added money came from donations from AZr's.

Wonder how CW would feel about the two finalists bailing on his so-called "World 14.1 Tournament". This is a guy who fancies himself as the savior of straight pool in the US with his event and he pulls this crap to go watch Borana and Shanelle play instead?

I am not one to support Charlie Williams, but he and Mika made a shared decision to not play out the final.

As the promoter of the match between Borina and Shanelle, I am sure he felt obligated to be there. Since Mika had other plans too, I am sure it made his decision easy.

For the straight pool league at my neighborhood pool hall, they keep a make-up book where both players can re-schedule a match. I can understand and sympathize both players having other commitments. How do we know if both players haven't considered a re-match? Maybe as an exhibition to kick off the 14.1 challenge for SBE 2013?

The public following on AZ is pretty significant, and I can't see how Mika and Charlie are not aware of the public interest for closure.

I'm sorry Tony but, IMHO, it was a bad decision by both Charlie and Mika.
When you enter an event, any event, you are making a commitment to play until the end. When they decided that they had more important things to do, they broke that commitment. In turn, they disrespected the sponsors and organizers of the 14.1 Challenge and all of the businesses and people who donated to the event. They also did a poor job of representing their own sponsors.

The promoters of the event should not allow this kind of thing to happen again. If you don't play your match you forfeit. In this case both lose. They get no money. If the next two players are not available then carry the money over to next year. AND do not allow the two players who walked away to compete next year.

I'm sure if either Mika or Charlie had made it into the 10 ball final they would have played. So using the excuse of other commitments doesn't fly.

Ridiculous- imposing requirements on promoters then failing to perform a basic requirement- playing tournament matches- is so hypocritical.

Charlie/ Dragon Promotions and the ABP don't give a flying- or seated- fluck about what you fans of the game or you sponsors want, need or expect. It has been proven time and time again and that is why they are both parasites: they are in it solely for their own benefit.

I firmly believe like to think they are the game and that they hold the key to an event's success through their affiliations (agreements?) with top-level pros, but to restate redundantly, reiterate repetitively and refresh: Charlie and his organizations are all about hizzelf.

Sponsors, take note: You stand a very high probability of less than expected return on your investment through involvement with this group.

Agreed. Promoters should require all matches be played out. If the players want to agree to divide the money in a way other than the payout plan then that is their choice.

And if either one makes a mockery of the final match then he should be barred from future events...and if there is a player's organization involved and the offending player is affiliated with it, there should be further sanctions imposed.

You expect to be paid? Act like it.

I like this...

I read in another thread that steps will be taken in future events to limit the potential for this to occur again (i.e. not playing in simultaneous events). Last time I looked, the BCA Nationals didn't allow players to enter two or more events that ran simultaneously due to scheduling conflicts. I agree that this step would help eliminate 'chopping the pot' due to one or both players having prior commitments, such as two matches at the same time.

But I do think that a message has to be sent. An example has to be made to inform all future players that this kind of behavior will not be tolerated. My personal choice would be to fire a warning shot across the bow, and name it "Mika and Charlie don't play in the next event".
And if the remaining ABP members want to boycott the entire event based on two of their own being expelled from competing in 2013 ? Well then, I'm sure there are plenty of 'dead money' amateur players willing to play. And compete. All the way to the finals.

If these type of antics keep up, the ABP Pros are going to find out the hard way that the "Pro Pool" machine can run on standard (amateur) parts...

Why would CW promote an event the same day as the SBE? That is just plain short sighted.

Tiger Woods bailed on a no cut event and did not receive a dime. Those two should now receive anything. And since I donated some of the fund, I wish I could get my money back.

As I mentioned in the 14.1 section.

The organizers of the challenge needed to have set times for the end of the qualifying period.
Then the top 8 players would have been known by lets say 10pm.
So they can get some sleep and know they are in the playoffs.

The playoffs should also have set match times for the quarters, semis and finals.

If a player is still in the Pro 10 ball then they will have to forfeit out of the 14.1 challenge.
That is just the way it has to be on the last day of the expo so all matches run on schedule and that a final will be played at the set time.

This year there were no set times and no rules pertaining to forfeits if in the Pro event.
However I think I understand that neither player was still in the main Pro 10 ball event at the time the finals were ready to be played.
So this is unacceptable to hold the tournament up for players in different side events or for a tournament at another location.

If Charlie was ready and waiting to play and Mika was in some other side event, after a standard 15mins Mika should forfeit and Charlie get the win and head on over to that match he was promoting.
