Open Offer to Danny Harriman and John Schmidt from TAR

Last I heard, Danny was working. That was about a year ago, though, and it was secondhand information, albeit from someone who knows him personally.

Like everyone else here, I would love to see them play. That said, and assuming Danny is working, I could understand why he would turn down the offer... aside from the bad blood and stuff, I mean. I'm sure that he would want to get himself in dead punch before a match like this - who wouldn't. If he figures that would require taking a month or more off of work (after which, is the job even available anymore?) and relocating (not sure exactly why, but that's none of my business), then it's simple math to see that a potential minimum payday of only $1k just wouldn't cut it.

And yes, I fully understand why a $3500 (or whatever he asked for) appearance fee is out of the question. The fact that there is ANY guaranteed money in the deal is just evidence of TAR going above and beyond to try to make this epic match happen. With that said, however, we would essentially be asking Danny to come out of retirement (again, assuming he is working and not playing any pool) - to take the necessary time to get his game up to world class level again - and to put his job, family, and everything else on hold long enough to do it.

I'm not suggesting that the above is Danny's thought process, but if I had basically hung up my cues and decided to do something different, it would be my thought process, and I wouldn't come out of retirement for this match.

Now, on the other hand, if I had a backer and I knew we could get another $20k-$30k down in the middle or from the rail, I'd go for my flipping coin so fast I'd get carpet burn from my pants pocket.

all of your points would hold more merit if Danny hadnt been calling John out on other threads & pm's never once mentioning time to prepare or relocating...This is just Danny making enough of a fuss that nobody calls his bluff cuz it aint worth it to them with all his ridiculous request.

IMHO, Danny should probably be left alone to live his life without the attacks. I believe Danny suffers from serious issues with paranoia and most of his outrageous statements and demands stem from those issues. He seems to feel that everyone is out to get him, to box him in or take advantage in some way. He believes he is the victim of cronyism in the pool world.

Some few of those thoughts of his may have actual basis in reality but I think he, for the most part, creates most of his own boxes and chooses to remain inside them. He really needs to seek some competent mental health assistance and try to break free of his demons. Anyone that has ever had to face such a situation or is close to someone that has suffered a mental illness surely knows how difficult life can be, especially with an illness that can be so well hidden or disguised. I personally know this very well.

I've known Danny since he was a teen and I believe his early exposure to too many on the seedy side of pool may have helped develop his current situation. But he needs to stop and take a look at how his behavior is affecting his own well being. Then do something to try to correct it. I hope he can.

And I would ask the forum members to please lay off Danny. He will see these comments and think the absolute worst of almost anything said. You are only driving him farther down into a dark mental tunnel. Just let the man live and deal with his problems without adding to them.

Very true, and whatever heat he takes for that is his own to deal with. Just saying that financially, it might be hard to justify taking the match. I really don't see why he couldn't find a backer and make a bigger potential payday out of it. Maybe those bridges have been burned?

Well said, Rich. I agree.

The problem with "NEXT" is that this match as some unusual legs, and for TAR's first venture where they are assuming all the financial risk they are, they need a match with legs.

I mean look at the post above by John, he's in there mixing it up! This is what we need. If Danny would step to the plate these guys would have plenty of time to woof, we could all get involved and TAR could take a solid shot at promotions like this. if it was successful for TAR, who knows how much content that could lead to?

For us people that all watch the streams anyway saying "forget Danny lets move on", doesn't mean much because we watch all the streams anyway. TAR needs a match with more than the usual suspects tuning in and this one way has that potential.

IMHO

Kevin

I agree Sir, but its clear to me at least that DH is not going to play. Justin is a wise young lad and will come up with a match that works for the players and TAR. I think he is focusing on "Next" with hopes in the far back nether regions of his noggin that Danny will step up and play. :)

You make great points & the only thing i don't agree with is giving him a free pass cuz he got issues...If he wants to live a live & let live life so be it but most of it he brings on himself.

WOW! You are a man I could break bread with. Awesome post.

TARd and feathered

I could say the same about a few members of this forum, but there comes a time when one must let go of negative feelings. In the end, the only person it hurts is the one feeling the negativity, not the person who is dishing out the negativity.

Until you walk in Danny's shoes, I kind of think it's not fair to pass judgment. I respect him for doing what he believes is best for him. Though it may not be what we as the collective forum members think is best for pool, it is solely Danny's decision, and as such, I believe we respect that.

Read Mark Griffin's post again. That's how you do business. You don't see him calling Danny names.

I did give John a gut check a couple of yrs ago on this forum to play as I was playing pool then. John turned my offer down saying he would rather be ate by a goat and all then play me again, Mr. Big stuff Justin from TAR had the adacity to make a post that he had found $2000.00 for John to play me and John turned it down (he should have kept the info that he was trying to raise $ for John to himself but that would not have made him look or feel so big.) Big Chad said he had nothing to do with Justin's decision to try and raise $ for John's appearence fee which was nice to know. So it does not take a genuise to figure out that the deal has become sweeter for John. So for me to play I have to prepare - I can b ready quicker than they think - but I won't take the fight short of notice and would have to relocate in order to do so. Thanks for the quality responses from Mark Griffith and Jam (Keith's a blessed dude JAM.) Again I am willing to play the match and i don't think TAR and I are too far off on the fine details. Again I will need a full month to prepare - I think maybe it's time to see if Justin from TAR ie Mr. big stuff would like to try his hand at raising $ for me to play a thousand for three days work is an insult if I were to lose - especially when i think about how Justin had found $2000.00 of free $ for Schmidt a couple of yrs. ago and there was never any monetary offer from him to me, I think like John did a couple of yrs ago. I would rather be eaten by the goat and shit off a cliff.

I think its more that Mark will see Danny and has more respect than that, many forum members do not post with a real name and would never say the things they do to Danny's face or anyone else for that matter. The internet makes people feel that they can say anything no matter how out of line and not be held accountable for it, most of the time that is true and they will never see that person face to face. I think if people do really want to see the match happen then we should be a bit more respectful and not be childish with name calling.

I hope you play Danny, would you be okay with the loser receiving $2000? Many of us are interested in watching you both battle it out, its understandable you need time to get in top form. Kind of curious why you need to relocate, not really my business though but assume its because the environment is negative. Good luck to you.

There better be no more threads on AZ about how sad the state of pool is considering here's a pro saying that $1000 (which is a hell of alot more than a large percentage of Americans would make for 3 days of work) is an insult. I'm glad to hear the the recession in the billiards industry is gone. Everyone rejoice!!!!

Who gives a shit if these 2 flamers play. After all thier bad, negative posts towards each other I would never pay to watch them. Probaly would not watch.the 2 cry babies play if it was steamed for FREE.

Ill take the 8 from either of them playin 10 ball myself, come to houston. Table 1 at bigtyme billiards, ask for jumpinjoe. Bring cash and quit pouting.

Relocating not hard to figure...

There are obvious reasons he may need to relocate. For example, I live in a town with no diamond pool tables. There is actually not even a poolroom. So, if I were a professional player practicing 8 hrs plus a day getting ready for an event I would obviously have to relocate to do that. Not sure if I'm right but seems like Danny is stating he hasn't been playing much, and wherever he is now doesn't offer him the proper equipment for training and preparing to tune up for the match.

If you were gonna play a golf match on a championship course I don't think you would practice on some par 3 goat ranch. Although if you did you might get eaten and shit on by one of the goats :thumbup:

I would like to see the match go off and think that they are both being awfully pampered. Justin is bending over (scary image) for the guys and as we all know Justin kisses nobody's ass. Hopefully they can squash the 3rd grade drama and play pool like real professionals and leave it all on the table.

Good luck to all participants (Justin, Mark, Danny, Schmidt, etc) in making the event happen. To the players...it could always be worse.
