Remedy this situation

If my hair was long enough I'd start pulling it out!

I just received my third replacement for an OB shaft, here's my original gripe thread......http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=265142

So I get my third total shaft in the mail yesterday, it's a classic pro by OB. It has a very small taper roll, completely acceptable and within reason. Yea... I got one that's straight finally and is solid.

But WTF is up with the collar ?????......., it looks as if someone took 200 grit to it and for good measure gouged the bottom of it before shipping. Pics below say it all.

I'm not seriously concerned that the appearance looks like shit but the gouge on the bottom is out of hand and extends all the way from the wood to the edge of the collar and has left a chip mark to further crack, split, whatever you want to call it, I just have absolutely NO idea how the f*%k something like this gets sent out as new?

Does it look like or will the gouge lead to a crack in the collar soon.

Wow. Not good.

Hope you get a positive outcome to this. I wouldn't be happy about that either.

We don't need more pics. I think it's pretty obvious from the first one that this shaft should have never shipped from OB cues (assuming you purchased direct from them).

I am sure though that once again, Royce will make good on this, if indeed you did by directly from OB Cues.

It's too bad though that you're having so much trouble getting the original problem remedied. I feel for ya!!!

In my original gripe thread, I have already gone "round and round" with OB. I even offered to pay and did pay $50 extra dollars for this to be right on the third try.

Original purchase.....$368
Two returns paid paid by me $35.30
Come on and get it right this time bribe..$50

Grand fu@%ing total ............$453.30

I ought to at least get a prize of the most expensive but still messed up shaft .....or award.

I'm not overly concerned about the heavily scratched surface of the joint collar you can see, it's the part about it possibly cracking and spreading to other areas of the collar.

After all that...Really?? I can't believe the last one wasn't personally inspected by Royce to make sure it was absolutely flawless! I truly feel that they should send you $453.00 and an apology. I can't believe they are letting their reputation get destroyed over this. What a frustrating situation. I would never put a customer of mine through that kind of stress. As if the whole thing wasn't ridicules enough, having to cough up "bribe" money" makes me sick. What an embarrassment! There are so many great company's out there, it's good to know who to avoid as well as who to do business with.

Hello....Royce!!!! any body out there?

But how are the other two shafts you bought? Surely the amount you paid was not for one shaft.

Let's see.....368/3=122.66........yup, I would have to guess you bought three shafts.

Oh wait.....453.30/3=151.10......you bought three good shafts.

It really sucks that they can't get that shaft right, but how are the other two playing? New shafts are always so nice......surely you can comment on the other two?

Perhaps the quality of the other two shafts you got for that money can help salvage some reputation for OB, so I only think it's fair that you speak of them. After all, we don't want a biased report.

I feel for ya. I hate it when I buy something off the net and have to ship it back. It can get expensive. Perhaps it was damaged in shipping? I am don't know how it was packaged. If you have already had to return 2 shafts, and they actually did ship this one as pictured, someone at the company needs to kick their QA folks in the ass. For that kind of money, it should be in perfect shape, and nothing less. I know when I buy high end anything, my expectations are very high. If I wanted less, I would pay less.

i have a similar gouge like that, only its on the butt part of the collar. Now it does not effect my shot, but when i do run my fingers that low on my stick when playing, i do feel it and i don't like it and it bothers me that its there. The only difference is, i some how did it i believe, if i were you send it back because it may bother you for a long time in the future every time you notice it and thats not what you payed for. let them know you didnt buy "like new" or "almost new"

I'm sorry for my miscommunication ChopDoc.

I bought a pool cue made by OB. I returned it because I didn't feel the roll was within tolerance. The butt of the cue had an easy to notice roll to it. I sent it back along with the shaft not really knowing WTH. Received a new cue, butt awesome, shaft not. After waiting the first time and not hearing anything from OB a second time and having to call, I wanted something done asap. Or for other folks out there who work, when you get it to make it right.

So I was the one who offered up the $50 to for them to "make it happen this time".....kind of a tip for making it right for sure, checking it twice please thing? OB didn't say you must pay, but I just felt like I needed to to make something happen. It got sent, I got it.

This shaft is solid and straight within reason for sure. I'm not doubting the makers quality and playability of their cues when you have one that is right, it's getting to the right part that can be damned elusive.

I'm not really concerned about the appearance of it, it the gouge.
Will it lead to a premature split of the collar?
Can I seal it with epoxy, and just buff out the scratchy/ haze stuff?

I have no problem doing a little minor work to it at this point. Can I use some mineral spirits or a quick wipe of acetone and polish?

That's a bit sad that a) you would continue to do business with them after them getting it wrong so obviously and b) that you felt you needed to send 50 more dollars as a bribe to get them to send something out of quality that they should always be sending out properly to everyone who purchases something from them to begin with.

I would've returned both, taken that money and used it on someone or something that actually gives half a crap.

gl tho

Send that shaft back...get what you paid for.I'd call them,an speak with the head muck..they should be shipping the replacement shaft over night,as they've screwed you over...there is no excuse..they should give you an extra shaft.
Hope the best for you.

If you didn't catch my drift I was being a smarta$$. In other words, you could buy three good shafts for that money. I question OBs price in the first place. Think about that carefully. Three shafts. From a good maker, even a hall of fame maker.

Or you can buy one that is defective for three times more.....

No miscommunication on your part. I was being a smarta$$ and it backfired.

I wouldn't touch that shaft. I would say the CEO, or owner, or whoever pretends to be in charge of that company needs to personally get their hands on a shaft, hand picked by himself form wherever their assembly line is, and personally package it and address it to you, with an apology and a t least some money back.

At this point I have to say that I have read other posts about issues with these shafts. Repeatedly people praise some person (the owner?, I don't think it's a cue maker but rather a company owner but I don't know) ....anyway he is praised for dealing with their customer service issue....which basically comes down to dealing with the fact that their shaft is screwed up.

Now....after reading all these posts about the praise for customer service, why do I feel so alone in noting that these issues came up so many times in the first place?

I mean, it's so bad I can't even make a smarta$$ comment about it, people don't get it. Have people been hypnotized or something? Drugged? It's almost as if it's considered OK to spend all that money for a SCREWED UP DEFECTIVE PIECE OF SIHT just because it has the name OB on it.

I wouldn't touch it.

Hi Chopdoc!

I agree all these specialty shafts are expensive. But would add that I had a problem with my OB-1 and they next day'ed a replacement to me. I was amazed at how quickly they handled it. Obviously this isn't the case every time but all companies have good days and bad.

Not saying his problem should be excused...just saying I got excellent service from them.

Just my $.02 :)
