I can relate. I used the same kamui ss for a 18 months and never had a problem with it, then had a new one put on by a different person and all he had was a kamui s, big difference. This one is hard as a rock. I have mis-cued with this thing several times and never even thought of a miscue with the ss on.
ADAPT, OVERCOME, and IMPROVISE. IMHO blaming poor play on your Tip is BOGUS. The BEST PLYER in the State of Arizona who was know as HALE STORM played with nothing more than a LE PRO Tip, he won ever event hands down because of his skill, and not his equipment.
He played with nothing more than a MC DERMOTT CUE, with a Leather WRAP, and like I said a LE PRO TIP.
IMHO I would love to have the Hail Storm Skill, Mental Game, Stroke, and nothing more than a House Cue, Willard Shaper, and some 220 Sand Paper.
When Mike Howerton aka AZHOSEPRO ran his tour in Az, how many year did the Hail Storm take it all. Ever year I can remember with just his MC DERMOTT CUE, with a Leather WRAP, and like I said a LE PRO TIP
You know some point the finger for failure were it belong at themselves, others blame equipment, humidity, the room was too hot, too cold, etc.
I find that most really great pool players spend time on the practice table, work hard on game building. Others buy a DVD, watch it once, and say the material did not teach them anything. Some are always hunting for the perfect Cue, or Cue Tip.
No one is going to win all the time, but some who are better because of practice, and skill building win frequently.
Like I said I would rather have Mosconi's Game & Skill than a Willie Mosconi's Cue, and no skill to make it sink balls. Maybe my thinking is wrong.

Youre missing the point.
The tip caused him to play poor because it wasnt what he expected it to be.
Kinda like drinking a glass of ice tea and someone sets there glass of coke in front of you and you drink that by accident. You dont dislike coke, it just wasnt what you were expecting.

I tried Kamui S first and I didn't like it at all. It was too hard for a S tip and I switched to a SS Kamui and it was like a night and day difference! I would know immediately if someone put an S on my shaft instead of an SS Kamui.

Just like Coco here many guys that put on the tips don't know the drastic difference it makes when you are playing at a higher level. One missed shape in a race to 9 was the difference in the matches that i played for money. Plus the confidence is really shattered when you are not getting to where you want to get with whitey.
I don't understand why you would discuss gambling with someone that won't bet that water is wet?
Well Geno maybe you should splain how Old Willie Mosconi did so well at Pool without all this Hi Tech Modern Sticks, Shafts, Tips, Chalk etc. I think it was Willie's skill, and nothing more. Some of Willie's records are still being spoken of years after his death.
Willie Mosconi was a GREAT AMBASSADORS for Pool, and of Pool. Don't think we have very many today playing Pool who could wear Willie Shoes.
JMHO.
