TAR 28: Deuel vs Schmidt All Around July 13-15

We are excited to announce TAR 28: Deuel vs Schmidt sponsored by Kamui and CSI taking place July 13-15 in Las Vegas, NV at the TAR Studio. This will be an all around match featuring eight ball, one pocket and ten ball.

The format is as follows:
Friday July 13: Eight Ball race to 15. $1500 to winner, $500 to loser
Saturday: July 14: One Pocket race to 8, $1500 to winner $500 to loser
Sunday: July 15: Ten Ball race to 21, $1500 to winner $500 to loser

The overall winner will return to play again in another all around.

There are seats available in the TAR Studio and as always the event will be live streamed on theactionreport.com. Pricing will be $15 per day or a package for all three days for $35. Thanks to our match sponsors Kamui and CSI for supporting TAR 28.

People have mentioned they wanted to see some different games so we are giving it a shot. I am interested to see how the 8 Ball works out on the tight studio table. We hope everyone joins us in a couple weeks for a great match.

i used to like watching Deuel, but he is slowing down a bit more than i like, hope he will be shooting quick in this match.

Awesome. How would you handicap these players' disciplines?

Corey has an advantage breaking in 10 B, and I'm confident John would admit to that. But outside of that, I'm not familiar with their 1 hole and 8 ball talents going head to head.

What's the line?????????

(Justin - I'm thinking this format will generate some new excitement/viewership)

A few reasons.

It was either straight pool or 8 ball and I figured that its pretty rare to see pro's play 8 ball on a big table and its something I thought others would enjoy. Plus I kinda wanted to see it.

John is identified with 14.1 so I thought it more interesting to have both guys play a game they dont play much instead of putting one guy into a game with another one who plays it every day. We'll see how it goes. I'm not against having 14.1 included in the future but I am just not sold on the fact that 14.1 sells. Ten or fifteen people make posts about it but history shows when its time to pay to watch 14.1 does poorly.

We have talked about doing some kind of big 14.1 match but the hurdle is no way we could recoup a $5000-$6000 prize fund. We'll see. The all around format is something we plan to continue with in additim to the 10 ball format and we are open to suggestion on what people want to see.
 
I think

it is a good format. Really, 8 ball is probably the most interesting and entertaining to watch played by the pros. Everyone that plays pool can identify with 8 ball, and would be interested in picking up some tips from the pros. The hardcore players will enjoy the 1 pocket, although it may be too slow for most people. And ten ball for all the rotation players out there.
 
Straight pool is best not used with this particular pair. Reason is John is a big favorite in a long straight pool game. It would be like having Daulton vs Schmidt in an all around and include banks.

The 3 games selected for this pair are very close by anyone's accounts, and will make for a more exciting and less predictable match.

I think it will be close all around.. I'm most anxious to watch these two play one pocket.
 
Great match-up. Love the 8-ball competition. One thing I learned watching the Accu-Stats 8-ball Invitational a few years ago and then the IPT is that some top pro players are better than others at reading the table and figuring out the best pattern.
 
You choose the right games.

Remember IPT 8 ball, IMHO 8 Ball/One pocket 2 best games for pool.

Straight pool just isn't a watchable game, there are no moves, it's just make 14, break, make 14 break (not saying it isn't hard, I can't do it) but it's not a money maker for TAR.

Good choices Justin, I will purchase for sure.

Not a knock on Shane, but it is also nice to have 2 new faces in there
I understand that it's hard to find people to play Shane and that speaks to his dominance in the industry. These 2 should put on a great show and the pattern play in 8 ball should be incredible.

14.1 is a smaller niche market then one pocket, one pocket has grown a ton in the past couple years in popularity I think. I would not be opposed to a long race of 14.1 but other than the diehard fans I do not think anyone would buy it.
 
Personally I think the best format is an all around, it shows who the truly best player is, not just the best 9 or 10 ball player. I would like to see 3 out of 5 format, 14.1, 8 ball, banks, one pocket and either 9 or 10 ball with shorter races, 2 games a day, the 3rd day would be the last game obviously.

You could sell each game individually or a full day pass, 1 hour break in between the games for whatever with maybe a little under card half time show for fun (cheap stakes) with maybe 2 spectators stinking it up or something. I think the 3 out of 5 with shorter races would be great, races to 13 in 9 ball/10ball, 8 in 8 ball, 5 in one pocket and banks and 125 in straight pool, if they are fast players I guess you could do longer races and still keep the time not to drawn out.
 
Nice idea. But you could play half sets each day and finish all sets on the third day. That way you are gauranteed 3 day.

Good reasoning. I think 8 ball is very underrated, and personally 14.1 is not a great watch.

As the format is now with 2 out 3 ten ball there is no guarantee of day 3 but you could make it a pay per set deal as they are doing in TAR 28 so there is a day 3.
