TAR 29 Commentary

I think Ken alone is fine, other than the cotton mouth or whatever it should be called which can be fixed by liquids or changing the placement of the microphone.

I don't get the whole love fest with Danny D. and Billy I. working together. I watched the accu-stats 8 ball and i found them more annoying together than any TAR commentating, they were both fine with Ken by their side but together i couldnt take them. Are there really absolutely 0 people born after 1970 that can do decent pool commentary?

Some of the most enjoyable commentating i've heard was on some of the Inside Pool streams when they get 2 players that aren't playing in a round into the booth together.

and some of the least enjoyable also

I have a simple question for all the Ken/Mark "haters" (strong word but we'll go with that for now). Would you pay $5 more for Billy? Even if he did it for free (no he should not be expected to perform without compensation). The Nut is big:
1. Airfare $500.00
2. Hotel $150 x 4 nights = $600.00
3. Per diem $100 x 4 = $400.00

$1500 Nut. Thus 300 viewers at $5 premium each. Don't see it.

This is not meant to be a personal attack, but I also wasn't a fan of Mark's commenting. I thought it was overly negative and often way way too harsh for how the players were performing.

The constant disagreement also got annoying.

And Ken needs to drink more water.

Nonetheless, TAR put out another impeccable stream and product that I will continue to purchase in the future no matter what! Thanks again!

I would rather have JCIN in the booth. He has done commentary in the past and he is short, to the point, and certainly not long winded or arguementative. He is a pretty good commentator from the times I remember him doing it.

Ken, Mark, and Billy are not the only 3 options.

JCIN and a very knowledgeable player in the booth. You have to sell the TAR events and having lacking commentary does not help at all. Crackin a joke or the commentators bustin on each other every once in a while makes for good entertainment.

....

Since I only saw the 10 ball discipline..this is my 2 cents.

Although Mark in the booth wasn't Ideal it was fine. Much much better than Dippy Dave or some of the other people who have entered the booth.

Sometimes he focuses too much on the amateur playing perspective instead of the professional one. In terms of play. The industry podcasts are great on the other hand. As he seems much more knowledgeable in that area.

Ken on the other hand is an excellent commentator. His knowledge of the game and mental observations such as: shape for both SVB and Dennis are almost spot on. And yes once in a while he needs to drink more water.

My favorite commentating was with Ken and Fred Agnir from TAR: Alex vs SVB 2007. That was amazing.

Yes Justin does an amazing job of commentating as well. that's a given.

Getting players to commentate is a great idea. Corey, Scott, Jeremy, etc

The commentary for TAR 29 was AWFUL! The match was great however and worth the money

I should have muted it long before I did

I only watched the 10 ball so that's what my comments are based on. i really wanted to watch the One Hole but was out of town

I thought it was as bad as they were saying. Dennis who didnt miss ONE ball in the 8 ball missed several straight in four foot hangers.

Just proves that 8 ball is easier :p

Of course it could also be that they played 3 different games in 3 days straight. I think had they played 10ball for all 3 days, the level of play might have been a little better. I know for me personally I try not to play any one pocket before a 9ball tournament.

Who is going to pay them? It's hard enough just to break even on these things.

I really enjoy Ken Schuman as a commentator, and I think he does an exceptional job. His technical knowledge of the game relative to rules, patterns, and game scenarios is excellent. He also does a great job recognising sponsors, introducing players, etc. My only qualm would be that occasionally he clears his throat into the mic. For that small transgression, I forgive him, and I will listen to him on a stream any day! IMO, he adds a lot of value to the production.

Mark Griffin is one of the most active industry leaders that the game of pool has today. He is undoubtedly doing more to promote and advance the game today than anyone in this country, and we should all be greatful for that. Personally, I enjoy hearing his industry and leadership perspective on things in the TAR pod casts, but not necessarily during a PPV, or at least not through the whole thing. A guest spot would be nice for him to field questions from the chat though.

With the above being said, Ken is exceptional by himself, and even better when paired with someone who can provide some "color." By "color" I mean, comedy, stories, current pool-scene rummors and info, etc. IMO, Justin should continue using Ken as the voice of TAR, and try out some new personalities to add more color commentary and current pool-scene information. There are a lot of well spoken pool players out there, and it's nice to hear from a variety of them as guest speakers.

IMO, rather than improvement in commentary, TAR could use an overhead (over-table) camera, a telestrator, and instant replay. I also like when the commentators can read and respond to chat participants during the stream.

TAR 29 was another great success for TAR, and they continue to provide a quality product.

You know now that i think about I'm not even sure that the Color guy even needs to be in Vegas. I've hosted dozens of meeting over the web/phone. Guy could be watching the stream and voip-ing audio over the web into the both. This would greatly lower the nut and bring up possibilities for far less. No more Hotel and Travel costs etc.

Having said that I still like Ken and Mark. I would spend the money first on a overhead cam. Key for one-hole stuff. Instant replay I think is prohibitively expensive.

The two best commentators are Billy I. and Danny D. They get along, their knowledge far surpasses any of the other commentators, they are funny and feed well off one another and they aren't biased. Even when they have a sweat bet for a match they are commentating they keep it on track and professional. Danny's knowledge of the stack is unsurpassed and even though its hard to tell from the booth if something in the stack goes, the fact that Danny points out POSSIBLE shots for the viewers broadens the viewers imagination. Billy I's. commentating on percentages help the viewers understand how to play the score(the most important aspect of one pocket)

They are the "Click and Clack" of commentators

That's not my issue. My issue is if I pay for a stream, I don't want to hear to guys argue the whole damn time. they both talked 90 to nothing at the same time, constantly interrupted each other, etc etc etc.

Justin said not to ***** unless you offer a solution. I offered mine. Most everyone enjoys the commentary of top players

Top players, makes sense. I also agree on the idea of one being a pro play by play and one being the color with out the conflict.

If, and this is a big if,....Earl came to his senses, and could handle the booth..........wouldn't his knowledge and possible humor, if he could keep it intact, be an interesting mix. <<< Not to be taken seriously unless you find it funny also.
