WOW!!! Everything over here in Shanghai is like the complete opposite of the U.S. The tables are so slick it's like playing on ice. Unfortunately I lost my first match but learned a ton. I'm glad I made the trip and hopefully I can pull though my brackets.

Good luck, and keep at 'em. We appreciate the fact that you are over there representing the USA and either way, the experience will make you a better player. As I tell my attack cat-sic 'em!

One edge a seasoned player has is the ability to play on all equipment and adjust quickly. This is good experience for sure playing on different equipment.

We went to a tournament one time that had just installed brand-new Granito cloth on their tables. Everybody was complaining aoubt it. It seemed like you just tap the ball with a little push, and the object ball would mysteriously glide what seemed endlessly, almost looking like one of those Olympic curlers. Getting position was difficult, and in this tournament it was the seasoned players who did well and cashed.

This is one advantage Earl Strickland has, the ability to adjust quickly to equipment.

Best of luck to you! Bring home the bacon!

If that was Granito carom cloth, it is about twice as "fast" as pool cloth. That means the ball goes twice as far for a particular speed (unless it hits a cushion, which eats up more than half of a ball's energy). If you're trying to go to the middle of the table, you end up at the other end until you make the adjustment.

Tables with cloth that fast have to be really level because the slow roller really show up any tilt.

Good luck to you, Mike.

Mike,

What cloth is being used? What tables? Pocket sizes?
How many tables are there? (64 player event)

I imagine some of the slickness is the new cloth.
Not sure if humidity ( or lack of) would be an issue.

Curious to see how the tables play towards the end of the event.

Thanks, and GOOD LUCK!

Play well Mike, and post some more info about the tournament, seems Cory got beat 9-0, did you see any of that match?

One of the sponsors is Andy Cloth, a Simonis imitator out of China. They do not imitate well. But neither do all the others.

andy cloth is used a lot in asia.Almost everywhere in Vietnam. It's much cheaper. It's fast in a bad way and slippery.Personally I can't stand it.

If that's the cloth that they are using I totally understand why he is calling it crazy.

Good Luck Mike!
