All i'm saying is that at this point all this bitterness will get you no where. What's done is done. People will remember this black mark on BS's legacy. No need to new threads over and over. I took a job that has me in the south and on the east coast now and I"m only back in town for my second kid to be born. He was due last monday and is a little late coming...
So maybe we can get all the guys together and play some when I come baxck to town after my next foray out,

It appears that JW is gone for good. The website is up for a domain sale. Someone said he retired...someone said his equipment was for sale. Dont think a JW cue is in anyone's future....too bad...they were nice, but way over priced due to his name.

There is no such thing as a free lunch. I am continually amazed that people cling to the ideal of a free lunch. Nobody lost any money. Nobody suffered any harm, except fraqile feelings. Nobody got raped. I think it's time to get over it and stop lamenting over this.
Create your dream cue, design it, and guess what? Go out and pay a respected cue maker to build it. That's how you get the cue of your dreams. Not by holding out some hope that the carny at the state fair should have given you the big stuffed animal, rather than the key ring you got. OK?

Well, it's now closing in on 2 years since az'er mhaimi won the "Design Your Dream" contest and Bill Stroud still hasn't presented him with his dream cue. For all we know, there may not have even been one turn on the wood for this cue.
Sad that Bill whipped so many members here into a frenzy, or at least excited us, over the possibility of being chosen to have one of our designs chosen and built by him, for free.
Why hasn't he come through for the winner? Why has there been such a lack of communication? Only Bill Stroud knows the answers..
What is known is that Bill has claimed to be going out of cuemaking and was advertising his equipment for sale.
And we know he said he is recommitting himself to be a tournament player and spending much of his time on that quest.
Bill posted in a thread he started just before he began the DYD thread that it shouldn't take a cuemaker longer than 8 weeks to build a cue, start to finish. So the DYD design might take a little longer but c'mon, not 2 years.
The bottom line is that Bill, unilaterally, decided he wanted to run a contest and he has failed to keep his end of the bargain.
I think it stinks and should leave a black mark on his legacy.
At this point, I don't think my opinion of him would change any even if he were to award the cue to mhaimi tomorrow. For me, the damage is done.

So Bill Stroud lied. That puts him in the same class of people that lied to me and never fulfilled their promise. He joins Danny Janes and Grady Mathews in my book. What are you if your word is no good? Dirtbag is the answer.
A) Money changing hands or not, it's crap.
B) Stroud probably could have given Mhaimi a four pointer (if the DYD winning design was too expensive), signed it, and all would be right with the world.
C) If any other cue maker pulled that crap, he'd be chased off of AZ with torches.

I'm glad that some are seeing this issue clearly...this is a strong example of the lack of integrity in our society. If Bill is/was unable--or unwilling--to live up to his commitment, he should have come on here (where he initiated the contest) and said he made a mistake and can't fulfill his promise. Let's say you bought a $0.25 lottery pull-tab & revealed a $5,000 winner. Let's say you took the ticket to the lottery office only to have them say, "sorry we've decided that we're not gonna pay that off". Would you happy to hear people say, "quit being a pu$$y! you're only out a quarter!"
I assure you some of the contestants put more than a quarter's worth of their time into this contest. Some even hired people to draft up their designs due to a lack of artistic skill.

Agree that he has not represented himself well but does that mean his life work is a disgrace? How does anyone know what the factors in his situation are?

Again, if there were extra factors at work (health concerns being the first to come to mind), why hit the tourney trail? Why ignore repeated calls & emails on this issue? Why leave the winner hanging for two years?
The fact that he announced the winner & shortly thereafter announced that he was retiring (posting his equipment here on AZB) said a lot. At first I thought it was a signal that Mhiami's cue would be his final work. A beautiful way to close that chapter in his life. It hasn't worked out that way.

No Brian, I know better. What I am saying is that BS has already diminished his place in history as a prominent and noteworthy cuemaker by this stunt. Time to move on to greener pastures!!
