Hurricane Sandy won't hold us northeast US pool players down!

I think its a bunch of crap tbh.... Everywhere around here people are buying out water bread and batteries like its the end of the world. I checked the forecast for the next 5 days and winds aren't suppose to exceed 35 mph which is nothing but a strong thunderstorm. I been in almost every kind of natural diaster and this ain't nothing!! However if you are coastal I fear for you and you should seek out all types of safety!! Here in upstate NY..... ill be smoking my corncob and sipping my fine bourbon next to the fireplace as the wind howls through the trees. Awwww bourbon :love2:

You should keep alert, Jen. The wind is really starting to whip-up up here in Carmel, NY (Putnam County, 90 minutes north of Manhattan), but that might be because one of Sandy's "arms" (the outstretched "fan blades") of the storm is about to hit up here.

I'm thinking you're just seeing the calm before the storm. When the wind picks up, believe me, it happens quickly.

Hope you and Keith are ready!

Thanks, Sean. Hope you all stay safe. Everything here is quiet as a churchmouse. Even the rain has stopped, and there's no wind.

They say the temperature is going to drop to 30s and 40s. If we lose power, that means, of course, no heat. I usually rent a suite at Residence Inn or another Marriott facility that accepts pets when this happens. I need electricity for my job. :sorry:

Oh, I just looked outside, it started raining again. Hmm.

Hey, we bought four of these things. They're the nuts. When you have power, they put out a soft amber light, so you can see where you're walking in a dark hallway or room. When the power goes out, the top portion is an LED flashlight, and it's really, really bright. I love these things. If you lose power, they're a godsend.

I'm backing up all my work now on my thumb drives and backup drive, just in case we have to leave. I need to keep working. I'm loaded this week with jobs due.

We are going to face the threat in few hours according NHC. I hope it will be not as bad as they predicted. New England area is not prepared for a big storm as we are not used to face such a disaster. My best thoughts to all of you. God will help us all to get rid of it nice and smooth. Eat healthy, play pool, and keep an eye on the window...
Be strong everyone.

That might be because you're inland, and a bit west. Brian and I are much closer to the coast, albeit on high ground.

I do agree that there's a lot of sensationalism, and if you check Facebook, it's like folks are thinking this is going to be an east coast Katrina. The storm's a Category 1, for pete's sake! There will be a lot of power outages, you can bet on that, but it's not like Katrina-caliber destruction or anything like that.

Like you, though, I'll have the fireplace roaring with hickory the whole time. I read somewhere that a cord of hickory has the same fuel heating power as a ton of coal! I have to be careful that I don't melt my fireplace. ;)

And yep, I'll raise my bottle of Jameson to toast with your bottle of bourbon! ;)

Here's what we got so far as of 9:30 a.m. today. I can hear this lone bird crying out, which bothers me.

The news is acting like the worst storm of the century is coming. I look outside, and it's quiet and still, hardly raining. I don't get it.

They shut down everything, Federal Government, D.C. Government, all major public schools, no buses, no subway, no banks, no trash collection, nothing.

Maybe it hasn't hit yet. I'm not sure.

I looked outside and was like "huh, the yard has a lot more leaves than before".
Northern VA I think is not really in this storm, just a routine rainy day. I love how panicky people buy 30 packs of water, like they expect to be trapped in a cave-in for a month. I guess it's not their fault, the news overhypes these things so much.

Maybe the worst hasn't hit yet, but right now, this ain't nothing! :embarrassed2:

I agree -- it's a Cat-1 storm, with the biggest danger being the storm surge for coastal folks. It looks like it's going to swing north of VA, and slam into MD and NJ instead. But we'll see.

Yeah, I saw the same thing. I'm wondering if it is a forum glitch. :embarrassed2:

Sandy,... Schmandy

A shout-out to all in Sandy's path ! I'm about 120 mi. N of NYC up onna mountain. Noontime monday, still have power and internet. Idon't expect to keep them though. Guess I'll get a lil table-time in today! :)
Stay safe & warm all ! ride it out .......

wait, my post about the storm showed up there? That's super weird.

I think you might have accidentally, maybe with your mouse, did a copy-and-paste without realizing it. I do it in MS-Word all the time when I'm speeding along.

We're starting to get winds now and more rain. They say a 6 p.m. is when all the fun is going to start. Some parts of Bethesda, MD have no power now. We live right next door. Yikes!

I have to get a tooth pulled tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. I called the dentist, and they have a generator. Crap! :embarrassed2:

Hi folks:

Yep, I'm in the same boat... er, situation. (Slip of the tongue there -- I don't think any of us want to be in a "boat" just yet. ;) )

Lots of rain and howling wind at the moment, but it appears that either A.) Sandy hasn't made landfall yet, or B.) Sandy has made landfall and is skirting a path around the Putnam County area where I'm at. Not sure yet -- they say the worst is supposed to be later this afternoon and evening.

I'll check in from time to time. I hope dannyb78 and the rest of our MD coastal friends are bearing it out ok!

Hello Jam,
I wish you and Keith the best in this terrible Sandy time. I hope it leaves you all OK, with no harm to you and the family. Please be safe! Keep us informed on how you are doing?
Many Regards,
Lock N Load.

North Wilmington, DE checking in. Just checked the radar, we're going to get a direct-hit. My finance keeps asking me wtf is going to happen. I said, hell I dunno--- never sweated a CAT-1 hurricane before. I just told her there's one rule: no crying allowed no matter what happens!

I can just see her panicking while trying to save crap that's not savable.

As long as we're OK and our animals are OK-- and my cue is OK -- everything is dandy :)
