You've seen him in "The Color of Money"; and now you can see him here on Billiard Club TV. Keith McCready, The Hurricane takes on Ryan McCreesh, a tough road player from Maryland. What was the turning point of the match?

A little background on that picture.: I remember that stick, C.J. That's a Bobby Hunter cue that Keith bought from Amar Kang, which originally was custom-made for Amar run-on; passive voice. Amar hit some hard times in D.C. and had to get out of town quickly--like really, really fast--but that's a topic for another thread. At the time that Amar sold it, he said that he was never playing pool again. :embarrassed2:

The shaft, however, was a loaner from Hennessee from Tennessee. When we got to the Open, Keith "claimed" his shaft was warped. I have never, in my life, seen anybody go through so many damn shafts and tips. Every time we went to a tournament, Keith was getting his shaft and tips worked on. Keith is the cue mechanic's dream. He greases their palms at every event. :D

The pants Keith was wearing belonged to the late Jimmy Mack, who passed away several years ago from Hepititis C, the disease that seems to be killing a lot of people from my generation run-on. Most of Keith's dress pants were dirty by the last day of the Open. Jimmy heard Keith and me discussing how we were going to go out to see if we could buy a new pair of pants, so Jimmy offered his. Several weeks later, we ran into Jimmy Mack back home, and Jimmy asked if Keith would give him a percentage of his winnings, since he won money wearing his pants.

That's Keith's lucky black sparkle shirt, which we bought in Goldsboro, North Carolina, while competing at Gene Hooker's Carolina Open. We bought it as an African-American gospel clothing store. Don't ask! :embarrassed2:

Keith came in third place at the 2003 U.S. Open that year with all these hand-me-downs; wearing that outfit and shooting with that cue.

Thanks for the happy pool memories, C.J.! :smiling-heart:

Not to nitpick or anything...

I gotta give some color to that match. Ryan and Keith were best buddies, playing as partners back home in many action games.

I was upset with Keith from the week before at the Carolinas Open. He had, shall I say, consumed a lot of fine spirits, and I did not care for his behavior at the tournament. We had words all the way home from North Carolina about it.

So I said that if we were going to the U.S. Open the next week, spending $2,500-plus, he had to promise to not consume any alcohol the entire week. That was the only way I was going.

The very first round, first match, Keith draws Ryan's name. I mean, imagine that. The two of them are best friends and end up playing each other on the first match of the tournament, and they put 'em on the TV table.

Keith was playing on the straights, which was fine by me. I was sick of seeing every single comepititor consuming H20 while Keith was the only player in the tournament sucking on a brown bottle. :embarrassed2:

I caught Jimmy Reid, incidentally, during this match, as Keith was losing, hand Keith what appeared to be a glass of soda. Upon second examination, I realized it wasn't a soda pop bottle. That was a mixed drink that Jimmy was trying slip to Keith so he'd play better. Well, it didn't work. Keith still lost. :D

Here's a cute picture of Ryan and Keith in Bristol, CT. They were at a Joss tournament, and the Filipinos were there in full bloom looking for action. Keith played Jalapena. Everybody in the joint had their money on the Jalapena first match. Keith and Ryan pooled their money together to get up the stake against Jalapena.

After Keith spanked Jalapena, Santos stepped up the plate and wanted to play Keith. What a fickle crowd pool railbirds are sometimes. Now they were standing in line, wanting to be a part of Keith's backers committee. :D

He went on to win two sets against Santos. What a great weekend, and the drive back home was a happy one. Ryan didn't even have to play pool and still came home winner. Kaching! Say "cheese," Ryan!

This match is a bad idea. Keith Mc Cready was a happening. That is something you can not drag out of the closet , dust off and do again. James Davis Jr only shows sparks of the magic needed to make a match.

Whose trousers did Keith wear again?

I haven't read all of this thread, as a matter of fact I have pretty much stayed away from the forums as of late.

I only have one thing to say about Keith, the reason I am a big fan of his is that he has something that several players are lacking these days and that's character. There is a reason that EVERYONE stops what they are doing to watch him play at a tournament.

He will always be my favorite.
