When Bob Fancher said a better than average player can get 4 runs per set on a good day, how many games did he mean with the term set?

Did he mean break and runs? That would not be the case at all.
On the other hand, if a "run" means 3 balls, then that would indeed define a better than average player.
Freddie <~~~ 3 is my limit
If he means 10 games per set then he has a high qualification for a better than average player. He means break and run as well. If you break and run in 9 ball 15% of the time you are better than average in my opinion considering you have an open shot after the break only 50% of the time with solid breaking skills. pros run out around 30%. if i take ball in hand after break i can run out about 25% of the time, without ball in hand ican run out aprrox - 10% of the time. i just figured i was at least an average player, but according to bob, isnt true
I think he said something without really considering it.
Why don't you do this. Find a 9' table with average pockets and play the ghost. Warm up until you're comfortable, take a Magic Rack, take ball in hand after each break and keep track of races to 7. Why don't you post the results and we can guess about what level you are, C, B, A etc.
I think you'll find with ball in hand that even 25% runout is hard to achieve if you are an average player.
9 footer would be wonderful, lol. In this area of new york they are hard to find though. i have a 6.5 fttable that has new samoin felt and is very true. It is about 25% percent smaller which means more clusters but also more green. I would estimate this makes the table about 15% easier than a nine footer. Does this sound right? How would my table size affect how i rate my run- out ability? would i take 85% of my run-out rate on a six footer to compare it to a nine footer? ex, if i ran out 25% of the time with ball in hand on a 6.5 footer (25 x .85 = my run out ability on a nine footer? )

i think your multiplier would need to be closer to .40 from my experience
How do you suggest playing the ghost?I think he said something without really considering it.

Ohh ,ooh, :wave3: A 9-ball thread,...... Can I throw-in my .02 ??
Hadda 6.5 in the bar league.
I play the 9's almost exclusively now.![]()
thanks, lol. what is your point? that u wont go back to 6.5 footers? that is irrelevant to this thread..

When I play, I play the standard way...you miss and you lose the game.
I've heard many variations that involve safety play etc which I think gives a more game-like feel to it.
I agree with the OP about clusters being a nuisance. 7ft tables (for me anyway) make it trickier to run out. On the odd occasion you get a nice spread then it makes it easier but mostly I get atleast 1 cluster of 2. Doesn't help when the cloth is covered in Budweiser either.
