JA vs MD push out after the break match.

So I was chatting a little with Archer on the phone about the Shane Vs Mike TAR match. JA said he would love to play Mike even for as much as he wanted at either 9-Ball or 10-Ball BUT the only rule was push out after the break. I was just kinda wondering about how that would change the game. If it would be a good game, would it separate the men from the boys so to speak and who would win.
So what do you guys think of that format? I guess it would give everyone a chance at the table.

I like it, and I would gladly PAY to see it!!

So you have to push out after the break?

I dont quite understand that. I like Johnny and stuff but it seems like an excuse for not getting a shot on the 1 as much as he other players might.

I dont think it would separate the men from the boys at all. Isnt it hard enough to break and get a shot one the one and run out 5 times in a row?

With the way Johnny wants to play, there would be no point in actually playing a set then. No one is going to run out. There is not as much of advantage in getting the break (still one but not as much as breaking and running out or breaking and playing a good safe would give). Why not just play by this rule and make it a race to 1?

It would definately lead to more push out to jump shots.

So then the next new rule would be no jump cues... until someone spears them with a full cue and then it will be no jump shots at all...

It wont end...

Why cant the guys are are wrold class just be allowed to play world class. You dont need to make the pockets tighter, you dont need to change the rules. Just let them be world class.

JA vs MD

I like archer in any game Especially if they play push out. JA plays much to consistent for mike to win that way. Mike would have to get hot and put some racks together to have a chance. JA vs SVB push out would be extremly interesting IMO

I don't think I like Mike's chances even if they don't push out.

For them to play that way when Johnny's experienced in it, and Mike (I'm guessing) isn't... it's like Mike giving Johnny a spot. Which Johnny definitely doesn't need :)
Maybe they play that way but johnny gives him a ball or two in exchange?

Well anyway, it's all hypothetical... I guess whoever plays smarter is supposed to win. Or whoever has the finesse to play perfect safeties even from long distances. As far as I know Johnny has no problem with distance so maybe mike pushes to jump shots, and we see who's the stronger jumper/kicker.

When I played push, it was an option, not a requirement.

If that is what you mean, you asked how might that impact this battle?

That makes for a start of the rack that sometimes requires some balls to shoot for it. I've seen Mike shoot the skin off a ball - in Opens, etc, , but I still think JA is a heavy fave. JA fades as good as anyone, no matter the circumstance. Not true in reverse IMO. Yet.

"Roll Out" after the break it means you have to "wrestle" for the first shot

Johnny and I have talked about this very thing at the Mosconi Cup. It would be a much better way to play rotation games. The break in this day and age is 70% of the game and that means they're playing "7Ball" after the break (with the one ball close to the corner).

If you have a mandatory "Roll Out" after the break it means you have to "wrestle" for the first shot and that brings out the real skill in the game. imo

We talked about this a lot last week in the "derby city rack mechanics" thread and I believe it's a VERY IMPORTANT topic. If we ever want to bring back the pure excitement and strategy of pool it needs to be more than just a "break contest".

I disagree, mainly because I don't believe in evening the game up by imposing restrictions.

If you cant be competitive at something, eliminate it? That is crazy talk.

OK... then to eliminate the break being such a problem we need a new "racking device".

Think Bingo... you know how you have the bingo balls in the machine spinning around and then one shoots up. well you basically use the same type of device except dont limit it to one. Have it above the pool table and load all the balls in it. Then "pull the cork" and let the balls fall where they may on the table. Opponent is allowed to shoot from either spot of their choice. Or better yet they have to alternate foot spot and head spot between racks.

There ya go... Im gonna be rich. Gonna call it then bingo rack.

That would be like watching paint dry. Watching guys exchange safeties each and every rack would make me want to gouge my eyes out. I like a good safety exchange as much as the next guy, but I also like to watch guys get comfortable and let their strokes out a little.

If Johnny wants to play a game like this, than he should just play one pocket.

Push out after the break would prevent break and runout....stringing racks ....Matches would be closer....you would see more hill hill matches.

Lol

Johnny Archer and Nick Varner came to Memphis and put on a clinic and show and it was very nice.

I had talked to Nick a few times before, and while Johnny was entertaining the troops, I told Nick I would love to see him play Johnny some one pocket and put the old "wedge" on him...

Nick said Johnny wouldnt play One Pocket against him....I dont think Johnny would like it at all....

Boom!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now you can put the balls in any order even... I just put 5 in their in order to show where they go!

You are welcome AZ and pool world. It is no longer a break contest. I just made a device that eliminates the break and still puts the balls in random order!
