JA vs MD push out after the break match.

The funny thing I find here, unless there are pieces moving behind the scenes, is that Johnny says, "Lets play some this way." Mike responds, "Lets play this way for WHAT EVER YOU WANT!" Then Fatboy tosses out, "$100k, lets role."

AND NOW...

Crickets...

On a side note, all you folks saying JA bested SVB, SVB beat MD, so JA should give MD weight if anything are crazy. I would bet JA doesn't like the idea of gambling with Shane a bunch. He pulled one down on Shane, but if they ever play again, Shane will still be the favorite over JA. That being said, I don't think Johnny is looking for a spot. (And who are we kidding, he doesn't need one.) I think he's looking to embarrass Mike, by taking away all the excuses.

The one thing that sticks out to me for all the folks that can't read between the lines, is how much disdain there is for Mike D. I know there are a of Dechaine haters and lovers out there. This thread shows me just how many bridges this kid has burned. I'm not a big fan of the kid in the first place. He should show some humbleness and maybe try and when some of the pool world over. You didn't see SVB barking at every guy holding a cue 5 years ago...

For the record, I like one of the two follow nick names for Mike.

Mike "The Mouth" Dechaine, or Mike "The Head" Dechaine LOL!

Just my thoughts from the side lines.

Justin[
Johnny got torched by SVB in the race to 13 turning stone finals. Shane broke, made a ball and had the 1 in the corner nearly every time. Johnny was very frustrated and it was not competitive. The last TS, Dechaine did the same thing, broke in 2-3 balls regularly and ran out from everywhere

WOW, I had to get some things done yesterday afternoon and was not on here and didn't get to speak with JA. I will today and let him in on this thread and what MD has said. He may have even seen it I know he has been cvoming on here every now and then to see whats going on. I will be back on here if JA has anything more to say on it.

he read it

I can only hope. Take a look around any pro tournament at the people watching in the crowd. Derby for example. Pro pool has a very serious demographic problem.

yeah in 20 more years there will be 6 people left on the rail:frown:, not many guys below 60 anymore.

JCIN, if you want to sell more PPV's do what Dana White did in MMA, sell the drama not the sport, same with WWF/WWE. Don King figured that out 40 years ago-he might have been the first. you were right the FB trash talk between Mike & Shane sold some PPV's you most likely wouldnt have sold had they not fired that up-real or fake the drama sells. And I know you know this, sell the sizzle not the steak.

This is a funny thread because you all think that I went barking to JA. JA started this whole thing. Unfortunately there is a much bigger issue in pool besides two players playing and I spoke up about it a few weeks back. Well, lets just say He didn't like what I had to say and thats why this started.

As far as this past weekend. I know I may have said that the break was everything. Let me rephrase as Ive had a couple days to cool down. Shane played incredible. I am impressed. He barely missed a ball in two days and broke like KING KONG. I know I didn't play well at all but the reason for that is because I knew I couldn't mess up and it added a lot of pressure. But lets be honest, even if I did play my best and broke like he did, it still would have been tough to win.

I personally did not like the conditions this past weekend. I know Justin wants to build a superstar out of Shane and see packages, but the way the table is now, people are flying in for a second place check against him. With the other table it showed that he had to play well against people like JA, Busty and Orcullo with somewhat of a neutral break.

Not really. Shane broke 13 times in that match, 5 of which were dry or a foul. On his 8 wet breaks, he made the 1-ball 5 times. So there were only 3 games where he was shooting at the 1-ball after the break. All 3 of those games were B&R's, one of which was on a 1/9 combination.

Justin I appreciate TAR ... thank you.... but as you have said (in some podcast) you have never watched a 9-ball (or 10-ball) match prior to the implementation of the Texas express rules... I would suggest going to the accu-stats archive and checking one out... the motivation was to speed up the game and make it more appealing to some potential TV deals in the offing...

A certain amount of skill was removed in the search for speed... If I was able to pull it off.. (which I have looked into and as you / Mark know the financials are not good .. to say the least) a tournament like the US Open 9-ball would be the old.. 2 foul push out, all balls spot, cue ball in hand behind the line on fouls after the break... It is never going to be a mainstream TV thing.. so build it for people that understand the game.... but "... checkers sells more the chess..."

Do you have any you would recommend from the current Accu-Stats catalog? Currently on their site the US Open and Sands 9 Ball events go back to 1990. Do any of them play by the push out/2 foul/behind the headstring rules? I can't remember seeing one since I first started watching in the early 90s.
Thanks.

Mike, i know that, i know more than i will say here(not my biz anyways). So please exclude me from the "All or everyone". Someone read someone else txt-thats how it got started.....

Didnt see you play SVB, I know his break is hard to fade, for anyone at the moment. Perhaps you will have a better out come next time, you will play again right?

take care

best

LOL @ wet breaks,,,,,What are they reffered to when say 3 or more balls go in??, still "Wet" or is there another word??:wink::)

Man idk who the hell would be jumpin to play shane pushout 10 ball. Did you see that mother****er come with those testers over and over after the break.

He's just gonna push to those type a shots and have a good edge in spots like that.

Anyways if that game ever happens or him playing someone with a neutral breaker I'm gonna go ahead and take a shot and bet on him.

Not sure what anyone else has been watching when this guy has been playing pool the last 6 months or so.

$10 short matches would just dilute the product IMO. I have no interest in doing matches just do them. At a $10 price point by the time I pay crew, players, commentators and bandwidth its just not worth it. The answer for TAR is a VOD site that allows us to sell our back catalog at a fair price that has a decent profit margin. Much easier said than done though.

Trick is not to just build a steady stream of income but mainly to increase your following. That's what regularly scheduled shows would do. Not superstars, but players we don't see too often like Chris Bartram, Henessey, anybody who happens to be in town. Use that to pump the big matches. They can bet and/or play for a smaller purse. Casual style. Like boxing. Have two or three matches a night, undercard and main event. Increase your following this way then watch your numbers grow in the big events and advertising. get some viewer numbers. Pool industry advertising is peanuts, but get a casino hotel and you have a brand.

It's a business plan and an investment. Being in business is like going to the pool table - you never shoot until you have a plan. And keep an open mind for crying out loud. I may not know your business but I guarantee you I know my business inside and out and I've run my own for - get this - for 35 years and I'm still around. Who else can say that? I also promote events. I consider myself a skeptical pessimist in buiniess but have written more than my share of six figure checks when I thought something was a good idea. Skepticism has saved my butt many times, but it also has ocassionally cost me some opportunities. An open mind leads to new opportunities then you pounce when you spot them.

We see the big names too much anyway - not just TAR but everywhere and that dilutes as well.

AtLarge, don't be silly. You are climbing a wall of futility attempting to bring up actual facts to pool players.

As for TAR matches, who cares about tight pockets, loose pockets, 9' vs. 10' table blah blah blah.

I think that the solution is to have each player down one cup of coffee + 2 liters of water 1 hour before the match. And don't let them take a break for any reason for at least 2 hours after the match started. Then add a shot clock with 20 seconds per shot. Problem solved. Pressure galore...

Thanks.

For the complete set of rules listed I would have to check "the collection"..

An example of a match with a sub-set of the rules might be Hopkins - Howard final Cleveland 10-ball 1990. I am pretty sure it was cue ball behind the head string on break fouls and all balls spot but I believe it was one foul play to hit. Also, I think this was the tape with Billy, Buddy, and Varner having a discussion on the up-coming rule changes (Texas express)...

( I will PM you if I find something more concrete)... might be one of those 1 camera, no audio deals.. (The best one with no audio .. is Sigel vs Rempe 14.1 -- Sigel breaks, Rempe tries to play safe, Sigel goes 150 and out... I can't remember if you can even hear the balls being hit .. I think you can? )

I respect that there is a back story to all this, and I also respect that you owned up to just getting housed by Shane. Cool of you to do.

All that said, will you play Johnny in either game? The offer is there. I'd like to see how you match up!

Good luck MD,

Justin

Making balls on the break, and scratching. All balls spot. If the 1 was in the kitchen, it spotted too. BIH inside the kitchen. 1 shot BIH fouls after the break, but any balls pocketed on a foul or off the table, always spotted. They started changing rules to make for better tv. 2 shot pushout, is not a good option to go back to. JMO
