Frost vs Alex - 1 Pocket Match on Monday for $40,000

Last question that has never been answered....who put up the money for both sides? Maybe that doesn't matter....but maybe it does.

Back to work.

Mikey will not be betting on a rematch so if I beat you on this one, you're gonna have to call me a nit.

Scott is still a fantastic one pocket player, however he was out shot, out moved, and out dressed last night:-) I'm sure they will play again and a different Scott will show up, but for now you gotta tip your hat off to Alex... he played great and deserved to win.

You think Scott played with his money ? Has Scott had a real job ? Has Scott been practicing regular ? Has he been playing people who test him on a regular basis ? Is he motivated ?Does he have an out if he doesn't make money shooting pool , someone to bail him out when times get tough ? Is Scott a good investment ?

I only got to see games 2-5 before I had to go to bed (damn day job); but it did seem like Scott was just off last night. The commentators mentioned that he hasn't really had anything handed to him; always fighting for a single ball. I saw a shot that is a perfect example of Alex getting just couple more rolls than Scott - Alex shot a bank/combo and moved a bunch of balls but lost the cueball - and a ball that double-kissed nudged the cueball just so it passed back to the alex's side, leaving Scott with nothing at all. If that ball had stayed on Scott's side, the way the balls were laying, I would've bet Scott was out from there. But, instead he had to play a tough safe and left Alex with another opportunity to run some more.

I'm definitely not taking anything from Alex, from what I saw, he was dead on - taking his time to make sure he was shooting "the right shot"... I have to wonder if all that stalling threw Scott off a little? We all know how fast he plays and how quickly he knows what he is gonna do.

But whatever, it's over now. I hope they play again though (and I hope I get to watch it :) )

Anyone know why they didn't start much earlier?

I hate I had to miss so much of it, and obviously many others too.

That was brutal!!! Scott never got going at all. The table rolled off but it rolled off for both of them not just Scott. Maybe SVB will play Alex some one hole for the title.

They already did last week. They played three days and Alex came on top 1k.

I watched till Alex was 5 ahead, then hit the sack.

Alex just out moved Scott at every chance. I am not a big one pocket player, but to me it appeared that Scott was always shooting defensive shots. Not a combination of both.

If I wouldn't have known Scott's ability, well....just leave it at that.

Most games, Scott only reached a few balls.

Great match, thanks POVPOOL. Also great to see 1500+ people in the viewing room. Not bad for a Monday night.

I'm confused as to why it was considered a $40,000 match? Wasn't it for $20,000?

I am confused why you're confused? :)

It's 40K in the middle, just like poker. That way, everyone should know what goes to the winner's side. Once the chips are in the middle, you have to win to get all 40k in the middle. Not counting both pulling up of course!

If someone said that it was for 20k, the other half of the viewers would be wondering why someone called it 20k instead of 40k.

When Big Nasty started saying "in the middle" on the streams (and I do believe he was the pioneer at this saying for 1on1 tourneys) 1/2 the chatters complained. To me, it's the right thing to say so that it's clear.

Needless to say, it looks like to me I sort of had that game pegged right. My over and under was a landslide.

I have played many hours on that table. I've played Efren lots of times on that very table. That table, when you have been playing on Diamonds and you go to that table, plays entirely different.

I believe Alex had Scott off balance the whole game, and that definitely did play a factor in that set. I was getting a play-by-play from a friend of mine who was there, sweating the match, for a short period of time.

Another thing, in order to beat the Filipinos, you have to be in combat daily. If you're not playing every day, you don't have a chance. Pound for pound, especially somebody like Alex, when Alex is on his game, nobody has to like it, even the best. And when it really comes down to it, Alex is a way better all-around player than Scott anyways.

I don't want to take anything away from Scott. I think that he needs to probably try to play on a Diamond. Everybody is entitled to an off day, and I understand that. That table when it gets wet, if there's a lot of people in the place, it's really tough. I'm sure Alex had more playing time than Scott on that table.

It's like Rory McIlory playing Tiger Woods. Don't think Tiger can't get there just because he lost to Rory once. This match just might wake Scott up, and he may realize how much preparation he will need to knock these guys in the tub.

I wish Scott the best luck in the rematch. I'm sure there will be one somewhere, somehow.

they started at 9 ish west coast time, seems about right for full time pool players to start. The match wasn't for the viewers benefit, they would have played regardless of the stream. We got lucky and watched a clinic.

I went to bed when Alex was 6 up. So is it over? Still going on?

(edit) Shoulda gone back one measly page...thanks. For others as lazy as me...Alex got the cheese.

I don't play poker. I see why I'm confused :D.. I play a set/race for $1000.. Is it for a $1000 or is it $2000? So, if half is always wrong, then maybe it's not so cut and dry and clear.

You're playing for a grand with 2K in the middle. Not sure why this is hard lol.

I was confused too. Don't feel like the lone soldier! :o

If they say they're playing a one pocket match for 40, to me that seems like the winner pockets 40. The "40 in the midde" is not something I would have thought about at first glance. :)

Alex never rushed a shot. Scott did and quickly found himself in the hole 4-0The deliberate player often gets the rolls. The balls that Alex shot at that if he would have missed he might have sold out--he made. Scott's power game put him in jepoardy several times. But his knowledge and 1 Hole shot making ability are amazing. Bottom line is that Alex played both smart, knowledgeably and superior when needed and Scott might have underestimated Alex.

One Pocket Richie's commentary was by far the best. The F--- bombs were often the result of spontaneous amazement and shouldn't have offended anyone but those who should have been in bed anyway. His inexperience as a commentator was offset by his 1 Hole knowledge.

I understand that Incardonna was in the room if so he should have been asked to sit down at the mike. His kind of talent should not be ignored. But maybe he was happy just as a spectator though I doubt it.

All in all a great night and a huge thanks to Daniel and POV. Money coming your way sir.
