How many of you sit down while working on lathe?

I do because I don't have a bench built for it yet. Personally, I don't think it matters. Even when I get my shop setup, I'll sit or stand...depends on what mood I'm in. :)

you cannot move fast evough if you are sitting down, as a matter of fact i suggest you don't just stand but stay on the balls of your feet, when you have the lathe spinning, the router running, and the auto feed engaged, there are a lot of things that can happen and all of then are not good.

I normally stand. But when I do wraps I sit on a stool. I might also get the stool if I am making multiple parts over and over and like cutting rings. I also sit when doing inlay work.
 
I actually put my floor lathe up on blocks so I don't have to bend over as much.

according to a couple customers of mine,
i must be laying down snoozing at the lathe :p

i stand, yeah it gets to my back, i live with it
but i'm afraid i could become too complacent sitting

My late mentor had a Nascar rolling chair next to his Logan. Used that chair when he did tips. He was at least 6'3". Stood up on most operations of course.

I sit in front of my taper machine. Stand in using the metal lathe all the time.
When power feed is on, hand on the lever.
 
I guess it does matter what kind of lathe! Mine is a small repair lathe, sit or stand. "BIG" lathe, you stand.
 
I have an 1800 sq/ft shop and the only seat is behind the desk.

I stand most of the time. I only sit on my stool when I am taking a long cut on a shaft or a butt.

People who need to sit to use machinery,have to be more than twice as careful as compared to people who can stand at a machine tool.
Myself, I always stand because I can. But a lot of my machines are set up in such a way, that if I had to sit to use them, then I still could use the gear.
My recommendation is if you are capable of standing to use a machine tool,then stand.
Get rubber mats or some other covering for the floor to make your feet a lot more comfortable.
One never knows what is around the corner in life.
 
Stand except at one lathe while doing operations without the lathe turning. I do have a tall bar chair in the shop... it's for visitors.
 
I stand at all machines because I want to be able to see everything at all times.

I've seen guys set up to do repairs at tournaments that sit and it looks lazy to me.
