OB Presents TAR Podcast with Efren Reyes and Shane Van Boening Tonight at 9 EST

For Efren,
1. What could the Efren in his prime give Efren today in a long race of 10ball? My guess Wild 8/9.

2. Efren. What is your high snooker run (on a proper 12 x 6)?

3. Efren. Tough question. At each guys best speed. Who was better? Busty or Parica?

Justin,

Thanks, I love these podcasts..

It's hard to get details out of Efren and Shane. Many times they give a one word answer.

Please push them a bit for details.

Hopefully there will be a translator in Efren's entourage.

Mark can provide filler material if there is a lull.

Thanks,
Capt. Obvious

For Efren: Is it true what Daryl Peach said that Efren beat Ronnie O' Sullivan and Jimmy White playing snooker with a pool cue and making 3 centuries?

Shane... On your delivery, do you pivot to the contact point of the cueball or were you already aiming there on practice strokes?

I bought the practice instructional video but a friend and I were arguing that you were pivoting for backhand english when you deliver the final stroke into the cueball. I think not... he thinks so.

As a continuation to the Red's tourney could you please ask Efren if he remembers hustling $5 and $10 / gm pool at Cassidy's Pool Hall on the West side of Houston on the I-10 Freeway during this same period.

I was 16 years old and thought I was a pool player. And I actually think I lost $20 to Mr. Morales at $5 a rack.

Ask Efren to tell us the story of his first tournament in the USA, the 1984 Red’s 9-Ball Open in Houston. A lot of the basic facts are in the below BD article, but it would be interesting to hear thoughts on that historic event.

Whas there one lesson/process that pushed you over the top from short-stop to amazing? If not, what single thing do you think has helped you the most in your play?

To Efren; who do you feel is the best player you have ever seen?

I know efren thinks buddy and sigel were the best back in the day, thats what I have heard him say anyway?

1. how good was parica back in the day?

2. Is parica considered a legend in the philippines?

3. what does he think of earl, past and present?

4. who was the best cash game player in the 90's?

5. what does he think of keith mccready?

6. does he remember CJ willey from back in the day?

7. what does he think of the chinese and taiwan players?

8. what rules would he change in the game of 9 ball to make it better?

9. over all who has the best pool players now, north america, europe, philippines, taiwan or china?

10. How good does he think the female pro's are now?

11. Ask about his famous youtube shots he has made and is there one he most proud of or remembers the most?

12. I remember reading spiderwebcom has said efren and busti have talked with hal houle in the past, is this true?

13. don't ask him if he uses cte because we all know he doesn't. I am just curious whether what spiderwebcom posted is correct or not.

14. dont ask him how he applies english lol there is no secret to it lol.

15. the guy has spent his life playing pool he can make a 3 rail kick in his sleep also.

16. Did he help dennis orcullio? < sp?

17. what does he think of that michael F guy that played in that youtube video?

18. what does he think of 14-1?

19. ask what his opinion is on why pro pool kinda sucks now in the USA and what is the difference from the 90's and present?

20. dont ask about 15 rotation and hows it played or any other philipino games "This is Efren and may be the only/last chance to get him this situation!"

21. who does efren think is the best young player in the world?

You have to ask efren questions in a way he will understand them also ;) You should give shane a pass on this podcast because this possibly could be the only chance you will get with efren to do something like this! There is not to many good interviews with efren out there.

A friend of mine and myself asked Efren that same question at the DCC one year and he looked clueless. That means: 1) He doesn't remember Hal, 2) They never learned Hal's name 3) Hal wasn't accurate w/ his story

I know Hal told that same story to a bunch of other players as well over the years, but who knows - for all we know they taught HIM that info or maybe it was always Greenleaf's system to begin with. We'll never know for sure unless we get lucky.

Request for JCIN:

If Efren and Shane are casually banging balls on the podcast, let them try out a game of 8-ball with 21 balls on the table (you need a 2nd set of balls).

Questions for Efren:

1) At what age do you consider your "prime", in terms of sheer shot-making and physical execution?

2) In your prime, humility aside, do you think anyone in the world, past, present, or future, could have beaten you (regularly) at any rotation game?

3) Do you generally cinch cut shots with outside english?

There wont be any TAR match DVD's anytime soon. Honestly probably never. Everything is going on a video on demand platform that will start in May.

Whats the line this will be a record breaker in TAR history? Prob for podcast and PPV...!?!?

For Efren...

What is your favorite memory in your pool career? Is there anything you want to accomplish that you have not yet in pool?

How is your poker game coming along?

I would like to know what Efren's thoughts are on Michael Feliciano. And how often he participates in money games with the younger Pinoys like the one we saw in the YouTube video.

How does Shane feel playing one of the greatest players to ever play the game? Does the reality ever set in that him and Efren are that good, or does he block it out mentally when he gets to the table?

Shane's a favorite in The Action Room sub-forum on AZB. Efren won two IPT 8-Ball championships in the biggest billiards tournament in history six-seven years ago. He's a world champion in rotation games and One-Pocket, and has recently won championships in both disciplines within the last few years. Is that frustrating at all? How do you deal with it?

I notice a lot of Filipinos using European/Conical tapers. Does Efren prefer Conical-tapered shafts over Pro/Taper shafts? Is it a big deal? What kind of action or differences do they find between the two?

Can you ask Efren how he aims, I think its similar to Shane after I bought the aiming download 2 weeks ago, I was thinking to myself this is how Efren and Sigel aim as well.

Also there was a rumor that in his country when he was considered the best player before he came to the States as "Ceasar Morales"...there was one guy..basically a drunken bum..who was the only guy who could beat him..he would come play a set with Efren..beat him and then go to the liquor store to get a bottle of whatever..can you get him to confirm..seems unbelievable but has been rumored for years.
Thanks!!

I wonder if either of them have been approached at all in the last year about being a part of creating a men's tour. If not do they have any desire to work at having one created?

Maybe he felt sorry for the guy and let him win so he could get some booze in him. Johnnyt
