Can you explain how you're setting up the hosting for the stream? Based on the above paragraph-- it doesn't sound correct.
Who are you sending your RTMP feed to? What kind of plan? I think you used AWS last night. This isn't their core business. They do it (because they do everythiiiiiing), but they're not the best.
I'm assuming by VPS you mean virtual private server? That's fine for your website, but 100% not for the stream. You can send your stream to a single VPS that has a bazillion gigs coming off it and you'll always have quality issues. If that's legit how you're doing it and the stream goes off without a hitch -- you guys are nowhere in the solar system of 10k concurrent users.
If you guys share a little of the basics -- there are a few guys including myself that can steer you in the right direction before tonight.
If 10k concurrent views is legit, you must work off a cluster, preferably a legitimate CDN. Not any CDN, but one that does origin/edge RTMP clustering as a primary business. Serving 10k streams from a VPS is like performing heart surgery with a screwdriver -- ain't the right tool for the job.
Alright, a serious question.
Since they were blown away and never ever expected getting 10,000 viewers

Why are they saying they are going to be set up to handle 10,000 viewers?
Wouldn't you want to handle 100,000-200,000 viewers since you probably were hoping for a thousand and you say you got ten times that amount with no one knowing about it?
When word gets out wouldn't they realistically expect at least a million viewers if not a few million.
So wouldn't these same problems keep happening all the time???
They set up for a thousand and get 10,000.........site goes down
They set up for 10,000 and get 30,000................site goes down
They set up for 50,000 and get 250,000..............site goes down
Would this be correct?
Not that I believe any of what they're saying right now.
