The Official Bonus Ball Friday Night Thread

I was watching that thing they were showing tonight and I saw some very talented players doing their level best to play and be professional in an absurd setting. These players deserve better than they are getting here.

The game itself looks like a Chinese fire drill with partners running back and forth and all around to beat the crazy 24 second clock or even worse at the end of a game. The pockets make them look silly on occasion. Those things are nuts for a spectator game.Through it all the players last night and tonight did an honest job of giving it their best shot. That is the only positive thing I have seen so far. The players should be proud of how they carried themselves so far. Everyone else involved needs some serious work.

I tried to send a positive green but need to spread it around first. Well said... some great players trying their level best on poorly design equipment, playing a f'd up game, dressed in well ... whatever.. I guess they are counting on the live audience or oversees market.. I do know that ONLY AZ members are going to refresh / refresh or run around trying to find the best feed BUT we are not the target audience....

(oh and my apologies to any streamer I have ever made a comment about quality.. now that I have seen how truly bad it can be.. well I had no idea)

Is it that difficullt for a multimillion dollar venture to figure out how to stream a MF'g pool match?

As a pool player, and a proponent of BB, I SO want to see things get better. My www.wpltv.com gives me a product I can't yet endure.

Add to that, It's not free if it costs me my time. Two nights in a row I laid out different plans to watch my beloved game, only to get donkey production.

It's OK tho, I'll buy next weekend. Or not.

F'g pissed at this point.

Bonus Ball even has elements of "cut-throat".

Continuation shot. In cut-throat you can take a suicide shot to continue your inning.

In bonus ball you can shoot opposite color to continue your inning.

BRILLIANT!!

There's only one thing that can save this now. Either the ball girls need to get naked or they need to get some in there who will.

And anyone who thinks I'm joking. Sadly, I'm not.

On the plus side, Parica vs. Moore is blurry, but watchable, with in-sync audio. Both players seem to understand the rules fairly well and to be shooting well. They were locked up in a one-pocket style kick and safety battle for a while, which I enjoyed. Now it's a shoot-out and Parica wins.

Shot clock for scotch matches clearly needs to be longer than for individual matches. I do think 4" or 4.25" pockets would be an improvement.

Also, it seems like there are too many shootouts. Maybe the game clock should be a little longer. That would probably be less of an issue with bigger pockets, though.

This is comically bad.

Love the arena, love the jerseys worn by the players, and love the fact that they are using a shot clock. This game played at a slow pace would be really painful to watch.

..... but the stream quality is weak, team spirit is near nonexistent, very tight pockets is ridiculous and makes these players look incompetent at times. The game itself is hard to follow, and commentary adds little in this regard.

If I had paid for this, I'd feel cheated.

It hasn't been remotely watchable for close to 2 hrs.
We heard excuses for last night and no doubt, different excuses for tonight.

I'm glad that AZ isn't the target audience for if they were, there wouldn't be many viewers left to worry about after tonight.

I have never watched a more terrible UStream match before and that includes one camera operations streamed from a bar.

Sorry guys but you just ain't cutting it.

Do they not know about the video quality that we are receiving. You would hope that they would be trying to rectify it.

This, and after trying my best to watch whatever I could, the game is just very disappointing.

Like someone suggested, if they were playing a combination of 8,9 and 10 ball, there is a remote possibility that this idea would have caught one.

A person can only take so much of orange, purple, black before it gets old, very old.

This from the social feed on ustream couple minutes ago:

"We are clearly having problems with UStream right now. It is not with our connection or equipment."

Sigh......

Followed minute later by this: "UStream is our emergency backup and it's obvious that it's not working correctly."

Whoever is typing must not understand how adding "clearly" and "obviously" to statements such as these in circumstances such as these make the entire organization look like an arrogant douchebag.

Just one guys opinion.

Edit to add: Maybe I'm being harsh but those responses just tilt me. My guess is the damage will be minimal though as I doubt anyone will actually see it other than the non-target audience in this thread.

JCIN, I'm with you. In my business, supporting computer chip design software, there are always issues. And I carefully consider the words I will use when presenting status to customers, and you caught some loaded words that would set any customer off on a rant.

I'm pretty enthusiastic about BB overall. But owning your mistakes in life is key. They would get a much better response from "Obviously, we were clearly not ready for HD streaming. We screwed up and now all we can do is work hard to fix it. We apologize and appreciate your patience."

Even if it were Ustream's fault (probably not the case), this is still a better message.

Who is responsible for this?

SERIOUSLY???

They are putting up a jacked up stream. No doubt in my mind. I'm sure there will be an explanation that involves everything but them making a mistake. Based on doing this shit for six years all over the country I am saying they simply screwed the pooch on the encoder side.

How or why makes no sense as Lenny knows his shit and an encoding profile is an encoding profile no matter what is sending it out. maybe he wasnt consulted? It could be Tricaster related but the encoder set up is fairly straight forward. Whatever it is I would bet money it wasn't Ustream putting their audio minutes out of sync and chopping that bad for the entire audience. If it was then not only did we have the unusual 10,000 viewers crash the server last night but we had a completely new never before seen screw up from Ustream tonight.

Could happen.

Right ?
