Interesting tidbit, Willie was 40 years old when he set this record in 1957. His 100th birthday is also later this month on June 27th. So this record was set 60 years ago

Well, maybe he was tired, but in his autobiography he says he missed a ball. I have seen reports that it was the 6 in the side, but I might have misremembered. He clearly misremembered in one place or the other since he is the source of two different versions. I'm going with the written version.
This was what Flora Mosconi told me personally when I met her years back. I thought of one question to ask her and that was it. She replied he got tired and quit. She was very nice and even gave me a copy of an article on Willie from local magazine where she lived.
