WPBL (Bonus Ball) - Hohmann 60 Ball Run on Youtube

This match didn't have commercial breaks. How long will it be with commercial breaks (if they are able to sell it to a sports channel)?

The pockets are being made a n 1/8" bigger, and the players will adapt. Within 2 weeks I bet the matches are around the 2 hour mark. If its still too long, we will adjust. :)

The pockets are being made a n 1/8" bigger,

That is good to hear. Some posted change the ball color. I think the orange/purple would be fine as long as something could be added to the bonus ball to make it a bit clearer to see when congested in some of the purple balls.

Overall it's very cool, and wish the players and event the best.

Now that we are talking about tweaking things a bit here's one to consider.

During the commentary Jeremy Jones said something like:

"He's going to play the orange into the other orange to get shape on the other orange next to the purple".

This is funny.

Could you not order a custom ball set where the orange and purple balls are also numbered 1 through 4"

Then you could say " "He's going to play the orange 2 into the orange 4 to get shape on the orange 1 next to the purple 3".

Or make it real easy (although there would be no special ball set to market) and use the 1-4 balls, 8 ball and 12-15 balls and play like this-

Low = 1 point (purple)
High = 2 points (orange)
8 = 3 points ( bonus ball )

You can still call numbered ball & pocket. And, you actually know what you are shooting at next.

Oh yeah, you wouldn't be able to sell $200 sets of Bonus Balls

To me, that is the only "sharp stick in the eye" so far. You need special balls and it costs the same for 9 solid colored (cheaper to make) balls as it does for a set of 16 solids and stripes. Do the math on that one!

If you are betting on the match, or paying for a live stream, why would you want the match to be shorter than 2 1/2 hours?

I only see this as being a good thing if you are planning on putting it on TV where they will add commercials.

Maybe do 3 singles, 3 doubles, and one triples match.

It can just get too long to watch sometimes, even if you are betting on it. I felt the same way about the TAR 100 matches, and I bet frequently on them. Everyone has their own opinion, however. No one is really right in this case, it comes down to personal preference.

The 1 hour edited show/highlight real of this one bonus ball match would blow away the 1 hour edited show/highlight real of the old ipt eight ball snoozefests. IMO.

I would like to add one thing.

When the ref is talking, it would be nice to hear what he is saying. The commentators are still talking and it all comes out as garble.

I enjoyed the match and at no point during the 2+hrs was i ever bored.

Double J was an amazing commentator and should be kicked off his team to be the official BB full time commentator :P

I understood all the rules within the first 30 minutes and don't understand how people can still be confused. That saying "You can't teach an old dog, new tricks" maybe???

Being a big fan of Esport i have seen my fair share of shitty online streams and did not hold that against the bad streams of the first week, as long as you're not charging anyone for a shit stream then nobody has a reason to biatch, if it sucks and you dont want to endure the learning curve you can just turn it off and you lost nothing. Once money starts exchanging hands then the streams better be near flawless.

The ball girls are pretty much a waste of money, i personally hate "hooker shoes" and having to stare at 2 pairs of them at the top 2 corners of the screen is what annoys me most so far of what i've seen of bonus ball, just have Lee spot the fricking ball. snooker refs have to run around a 12' table spotting every second ball and they arent dead.

I strongly dislike the charging extra for VOD's of the matches, i can either pay $170 and spend every single weekend for the next 6 months sitting inside to watch BB or i can pay $200 to watch when i want? I don't think so, it should be 1 price for everyone, VOD's INCLUDED!!!

Content needs to be added to streams during the 15 minute break. Maybe draw a few seats from the crowd and have them try a break and run, whoever gets the highest run gets a team shirt, some $$, whatever..., just to not have dead air during the break.

I enjoyed it overall.

I'm doing my best to be innovative, yet preserve the integrity of the actual game, meaning that anything that would shark or obscure a players ability, is not an option. Lights in the pockets would not go over well with the players....even though it would look cool. :)

Not sure if it's been suggested already but for the video viewers maybe a visual effect can be added? Kind of like when they used to highlight the puck on NHL games for TV viewers you could put a colored aura over the pockets without making it a distraction for the players.

That was beautiful to watch. Hohmann's run was sensational. The captain's choice tiebreaker seems to be the best thing about Bonus Ball. The players and fans got more excited than in the last match I watched, particularly during Hohmann's run, and Scott Frost's good sportsmanship, extended even before he shot in the tiebreaker, sat well with this fan.

Thanks for sharing.

I agree, sjm. Here's something I wonder about the captain's choice tiebreakers. Apparently there is a $5,000 prize for the highest such run during the season. I wonder if they have a rule that the captains must spread the choices around so that everyone actually gets a chance at the prize (if enough matches end in ties). Otherwise, the captain could pick himself every time. If the choices do not have to be spread around, another possibility would be for a team to decide that a certain player will always be their choice in such situations, but they agree to split any such high-run prize among the team members.

You are always thinking! That is a very good point.
