So where is the Bonus Ball annoucement?

Bonus Ball is on hiatus for "a few weeks." Players have not been paid for "a few weeks."

People who paid for subscription matches are going to be refunded monies for the weeks BB will be off the air.

That's it in a nutshell. :)

Thanks JAM. :)
"Finally, anyone who has bought WPBL PPV access will be contacted in the coming weeks regarding compensation* for their purchase."

I do not believe that says anything about a refund. After all, a refund would be a cash outlay. I'z surmise the end date of packages* will be bumped forward.

*Carefully chosen words ;)

I am for hire on business planning to help with this fiasco but will need to use vacation time to fly out to meet with the owner/marketing/financial gurus :D.

You are correct: I did flip-flip on BB.

I do not want to see BB fail. Of course, I want what is best for professional pool, especially American professional pool. It's circling the drain right now, has been for years. The tournament payouts, as most know, are the same in 2013 as they were in 1973, yet the cost of living has quadrupled.

When attending tournaments in the '70s, gas was 35 cents a gallon. A decent hotel room was about 30 bucks. You could eat a full-course meal at McDonald's -- hamburger, French frieds, and a milkshake -- for less than a dollar. :grin-square:

Professional pool as an industry has not had a cost-of-living raise in its payouts at pool competitions.

Most money today made in pool, if there is any to be made, comes from gambling, one-on-one combat behind closed doors. But you will not read about these profits much on AzBilliards. Some of them remain private and for good reason. The average action player will make more money than a tournament soldier in 2013, mainly because of expenses.

With all of the above said, if Bonus Ball can effect a change for the better, I'm in like Flynn, but my loyalty, if you want to call it that, is to the players themselves. If they ain't getting paid, I think it's something to be concerned about. Been there and done that myself with my experience in the pool world. To illustrate, I told Keith if he didn't come home with his IPT check in Reno, then he better not come home and he could just stay in Reno. When he told me that they informed him at the players meeting that the checks weren't available, I didn't believe him. I thought he gambled his winnings away.

Poor Keith ended up selling his upcoming check, that didn't come until a year later, to another player for 10 percent, so he'd have money in his pocket when he got off the airplane. I didn't find out what he did until a week after he got back that nobody got paid. The IPT soon folded thereafter.

When they get funny with the money, somebody is wrong.

That was ahuge and emtional balck eye for the game and the players. I dot thk KT spoke another true word afterwards and Deno Boy could not find a hiding place.
Pool got very quiet after that.
poor Blackjack warned and wrned about that very thing and was raked through the hot coals by almost everyone in the world.

I read this a couple times myself? Maybe in lieu of a refund, they will be "compensated" with some of the hats and jerseys in the storage closet!

Good point. Actually, you could see that a lot of thought went into writing this press release. You're right. The words were carefully chosen!

Maybe they get one of the jerseys that won't be used anymore??

edit: I see now that Diamond 69 beat me to it!

I have a feeling we're just entering a new quiet period. :embarrassed2:

I did not even consider that. You, young lady, are a genious.

Watch...they will have another slick move, like writing off the items at retail cost, even though they only paid a fraction of that to acquire them.

NAww. They wouldn't think a step ahead.

What is even more hilarious is that whenever the issue of BB players not playing in the Tunica and Vega$ events, the auto response from Nathan was that we are all a bunch of idiots and they just can't shut the BB mega machine down for a few weeks. There is rent and bills to pay, yada yada. And now, they have done just that.

I thought the exact same thing and I haven't stop laughing about that since. How are they going to afford closing up shop?!?!?!!?!

That's ok. Great minds think alike.

Actually may not be a terrible idea. The money paid is already gone, so maybe some autographed jerseys/hats might not be a bad tradeoff.

This is like a bad episode of "Shark Tank" or the Canadian version, "Dragon's Den". The Sharks/Dragons would tell them to -- stop the madness! And, O'leary would shame them for wasting perfectly good money.

There is only 1 way to make money from pool... Sell the thousands of $$$ in useless equipment we have, get an education, and go to work.

I wonder if the BB guy went on good intention, life savings and a misguidance from someone in the pool industry? I can't believe someone was able to accumulate this amount of money on such poor choices. AZ is full of lost venture stories, might have been a great place to start, research and base decisions on!

That's just my 2 cents. (that I wouldn't invest in pool)

Just for the record, I qualify more as an old man than a young lady. :)
