One of the top players ask me if I'd consider being "The Commissioner" of professional pool and my answer was simply "No".....however, I would like to be involved in the marketing and developing a comprehensive marketing plan for the professional sport of pocket billiards. There's a recipe for success, however, from our research the attempts in the last 13 years have been off course, concentrating on the wrong agenda.
I've seen the "Commissioner" routine before and it's too political for me, I'm more interested in the pure business aspects and how to format the game to sell to ESPN. This is the best first step that can be made, and the player's character development is an essential component.
Pro pool, should be more like staging a movie than just showcasing two people playing the game. "People like people, not games"...and this goes for baseball, football, tennis, basketball, golf, etc....it's the personalities that drive the sport/game, not vice versa.
The game is great, however, the general public will ONLY care about the game when they know and recognize the players. This must be the first and foremost strategy and it's been done before (in other sports/games), and it will be done again. 'The Game Will Be the Teacher'
