Danny Barouty (our beloved Generalissimo of 14.1 in the Big Apple) is moving to California in September, after the World Tournament of 14.1, because family needs necessitate this (... and that’s what good guys with character do).

Below are two emails to Amsterdam league members, the first from Danny, the second from John Leyman------

DAN-
“Hey Guys.
I guess by now you know that I will not be running the league anymore. You have been a great bunch but I am moving on. You are in the more then capable hands of one Travis McKinney, as he is a very good player and a gentleman. He is also an English Professor so don't expect a lot of gramatical erroars. (LOL)

I am going to clear the postponements now. Please check and see if any results are in error. Remember that all games need to be finished by Monday at 8:30 sharp and results in.
ciao”

“To All the 14.1 League Players:
As some of you have probably heard by now Danny Barouty, our beloved 14.1 league director, has given his notice and will be moving to California. We asked Danny if he would commute and still run the league but he felt that it was just a little too far to commute from. We at Amsterdam want to wish Danny, great luck in his new California home and at the World 14.1 event he will be participating in next week and feel honored to have Danny's expertise, humor and professional attitude as part of our staff for all these years.
As we move forward, taking over for Danny will be Travis McKinney.
His accomplishments are as follows:
Sponsored by Mezz USA;
Sponsored by Amsterdam Billiard Club;
--Recent finishes:
Mezz Pro-Am Champion, February 2013 (Tour Stop #3);
Third Place, Mezz Pro-Am Stops #5 & #7; Third Place Predator Pro/Open Division, Stop #9;
17th, U.S. Open 10-Ball Championship (2013);
Winner of Thirty-Five Open, Amateur, Regional, and Junior Titles;
Four-Time Junior Ohio State Champion;
Third and Fifth Place Finishes, BCA Junior National Championships (1995 & 1996 respectively);
Notable victories: defeated Tommy Kennedy and Steve Mizerak at age 14
Began playing at age 10; first junior state title six months later.
Please take a little time to introduce yourselves to Travis and we look forward to all of you continuing in our leagues in the future.
If any of you have concerns or suggestions you can always contact me at leymanland@aol.com.

Good for Danny! California is cleaner and healthier than that hell hole NYC. Perfect move for his family.

New York's loss with be California's gain.

Good luck Danny.
Well, yes, but... Which part of California? Inquiring minds (and 14.1 league players) want to know.

(It is harder to commute from one end of California to the other than from CA to NY.)

Just couldn't pass on the opportunity to jab at NYC could you? They probably have a
"curb-job" for you!

On a POSITIVE note :Danny hope all is well and the move is great for everyone.

Life without Danny in New York

Hard to contemplate. I personally wish Danny all the best and thank him for all the pleasant moments we have spent together, most recently "railing" his 197.

This really saddens me, Danny is a staple to NY Pool and definitely one of the Grand Masters of our game

Danny if your outside looking in, I wish you all the best you will certainly be missed.

Now that you're moving to Cali, that's Marop country... Look him up, he'll certainly give you some great games of 13.2 LOL LOL (long story)

Steve

Moving from one liberal anti-gun state to another liberal anti-gun state.HAHA.

Maybe he is moving to around the LA area so I can learn more and get some 14.1 lessons.

Oh and its hard playing 14.1 on 4 inch pockets. This is one hole country here in CA.

The Story !!!

In light of hearing the sad news that Danny Barouty is leaving NY and heading west to California, I thought I would share one my many fond memories of Danny.

One year we were running the 14.1 Challenge at SBE, I had the pleasure of scoring and racking for Danny. While Danny was shooting I was so engulfed in Danny's game and patterns that I went to rack the balls while there was still 2 object balls left on the table.

Danny being the quick witted person that he is, said in front of about 50 people " Steve this is 14.1 not 13.2 ". (Brilliant)

I'll never forget that for as long as I live. Best of luck to you Danny I wish you all the best Sir you will certainly be missed !!!!

-Steve

Wow, there isn't much to say here except good luck to Danny in his next station in life.

I first met Danny in the mid-1970's at the Golden Q in Queens, NY, and I have always liked him. He's a good friend and I'll miss him a lot.

Danny has been a towering presence in straight pool, both as a competitor and advocate, in the Northeast United States for decades and has inspired countless players.

There's an old saying that "nobody is irreplaceable." This saying is in error, for Danny is irreplaceable. Perhaps, though, his shining example will motivate all of us in the Northeast to support and encourage our fellow pool players. That's how Danny would have wanted it.

California, you're getting somebody special. Treat him right and take good care of him.

At Amsterdam, we had the likes of Steve Lipsky, Mika, Tony Robles, and even other pool hall owners playing in the advanced straight pool league. For beginners like me, Danny made me feel comfortable and relaxed. I took this season off so I could concentrate on a new job, and was hoping to come back in the fall to join Danny again.

Here are some pictures of Danny from this year's 14.1 Challenge at Super Billiard Expo 2013.

LOL...it wasn't meant as a jab at anyone, just the location itself. I lived in Manhattan/Queens/Bronx over a 48 year span, and the past 4 years in Texas and now Delaware. I really don't miss NYC, but that's entirely a personal opinion. :)

Danny, thanks for the dozen or so years of allowing me to rack for you in 14.1 when I was in NYC. You not only make the game enjoyable to watch (er, until you missed which was rare!), but you showed the pool community that its possible to balance a career in in the sport of pool, and a beautiful family, while preserving your high level of integrity.

I wish you and your family all the best out in California.
