Been trying to watch 14.1 stream from Inside pool. I say trying because its always up and down all day long. How hard can it be? Not suggesting its easy but you would think someone could do it...just sayin.

Maybe it's your computer. I've watched hundreds of streams with little or no issues.

It's free

And the quality when streaming is terrific. But I have to agree, the stream has quit 8 or 9 times just in the finals alone today. I'm not a technical IT guy so I can't even guess as to why this has happened.

Regardless, a heartfelt thank you to inside pool.

For someone to complain about a stream that someone has went out of their way to do for free is nonsense... There is a lot that goes into streaming reliability doesn't always depend on them it depends on connection, not always concluding in their fault...

No offense but for someone that seems fairly new to the forums on their 180 something post should be starting a thread for something productive. Just a thought.

I take it you didn't notice that he has been here 6 years longer than you.

yes and no.

first paragraph, correct, but the second.....is there a post count scale somewhere so people know when and what to post?

??? I've watch all day without any issue. Did I miss an issue? Or are you confusing the break between matches as "down."

Freddie <~~~ watched 200 and out every ball today

There are many things this could be a problem with. My pc is good and can handle that stream and I still have problems as well.

1. There are better streaming websites available. It could be ustream.
2. Their internet connection. If they don't have a great upload speed that can cause problems (some internet provider even regulate streams and streamers. Comcast is notorious for it.)
3. The streamers pc. If the pc is getting maxed out that can cause problems.
4. Setting up the proper setting via the streaming website can cause issues.
5. Your pc doesn't have enough muscle.

There's a lot more that I'm sure I'm not aware of that it could be.

Are there any other sports that use PPV streaming? Probably not many if any. One big reason I'm sure is quality issues. Johnnyt

Whoa... no one complained about the streamer here. Where did you get that?

The question was is there no was to get a reliable stream.

I am very grateful to inside pool ofr the free stream. My guess is that one reason it was free is because insidepool saw potential for problems, be they because of steinways bandwidth, ustream, or any number of other things.

I too was very frustrated by the multiple drops.

Without trying to compare, what is it that accustats does that all but eliminates these problems? Even when they are on location. That may offer a clue.

I know one thing, I experience more issues on ustream than anywhere else.

Problems aside, an amazing tournament. Thank you very much for all involved.

Accu-Stats ppv's are NOT done via ustream.

they use AVW as does TAR.

the internet connection at Steinway might be the biggest problem !

and of course uSCREAM !

:groucho:

Stream was pretty for me all week. I've seen much much worse. Also commentators were pretty good especially Ralf Eckert when he was in the booth.

My question is. Why aren't the streamers using something better like twitch.tv, or youtube to stream.

The UFC streams their ppv's. I don't know the tech involved. I've only bought one over the Internet once. It had buffering issues here and there, but wasn't too much of a problem because you could rewind it.

stream down!!!

I just came from doing the commentary of the 14.1 world championships and I can tell you first hand that one of the reasons that the stream is dropped sometimes is because of the bandwidth that the building has to deal with. today there were almost 2000 people logged in to watch along with many people inside the room that were trying to watch the match in person as well as on their phones and that caused the the rooms server to crash. most business do not have the most reliable internet service out there (probably because of cost) and that leads to the many problems a streamer will face if they travel around the country trying to stream live events!!

Enjoyed your commentary during the tournament.

On the streaming, if Inside Pool is using Steinway's WiFi to broadcast out, hopefully Steinway locks down the router so no one else can connect during the broadcast and eat up the bandwidth.

+1

Thats Streaming 101.

The number of people watching ustream could be a million and it doesnt affect the signal going up from the site itself. If there were fifty people at the site itself trying to watch the stream on the same network it was being uploaded on that would be a nightmare. I always had the location lock down the public wifi if at all possible and always used a hardwire connection to the router or modem. It made for some interesting cable runs sometimes but streaming via wireless is a mine field.

Streaming still has a bit of black magic to it. You can set up and have everything work perfect, come in the next day without changing anything and it will not work at all. Its one of the many reasons I am an asshole.
