Barry Hearn doing his best to assure an American victory

Barry Hearn should run the Mosconi Cup like other promoters run theirs: keep the tournament a secret from the public. Who does he think he is, trying to get pool on international television? Sacrilege! He's destroying the sport!

I suggest we turn back the clock to the days when the Philippines were a U.S. territory: SVB, Archer, Orcullo, Bustamonte and Biado.
 
I've also heard many times that he's trying to stack things in Europe's favor, it seems the guy cannot win.

I'm not sure why the surprise or anger, they announced at the beginning of the year that matchroom will be
making all the picks and it won't be based on BCA points anymore. The only logical conclusion is they'd
start picking teams on something other than merit. Popularity and ratings will play a role.

On paper, MD would be a better pick than Earl, where's the outrage that Earl or Dennis got picked over Dechaine?
Mike beat Hatch last year in TAR 25 and has won Turning Stone too.
I just can't feel mad if they truly try to keep it artificially close.
It's their invitational tournament, who are we to scream at them about who they invite?
Wanna yell at JCIN and call him a "joke" for holding a TAR that doesn't feature the #1 American vs. the #1 Filipino or Euro?

If the mosconi cup were about "fair" it'd be long round robin races in a quiet arena with no doubles,
and we'd all fall asleep halfway through, and payouts would be miniscule because nobody would tune in.

If you feel like being mad about something, wait and see if America loses again with home court advantage
and Europe's less-than-ideal squad. We officially have no more excuses.

I don't recall much, if any criticism @ BH regarding The Cup and the just completed World Cup, other than the MC selection process each year.

He seems to be held in high regard. Not sure why you're claiming he's proven
to be a joke. I'm confident you're in the minority.

The main thing Barry wants is ratings and the last thing Barry wants is a blowout.

If someone did a poll: "If you could only spectate one event, what would it be?"
- I'd bet The Cup would win by a landslide.

I'm with you! I will take Team Philippines over the WORLD! Put five of these killers together and you can forget it. They all feed off each other, the essence of team play.

The amazing thing is I've seen their "second string," all guys who have yet to leave the country! They might beat Team USA, sad to say. :rolleyes:

Barry Hearn happens to be one CLASS ACT, all the way! I'm proud to call him a friend. He is a great supporter of our sport and a great promoter of the game as well. I got his back every day and by the way he will be in the Billiards Hall of Fame soon!

P.S. He also saved professional snooker from near extinction. What more can one man do? Oh yeah, Matchroom puts on televised events in about a dozen other sports! HELLO!!!!

Where is this Billiards Hall of Fame - I need to go check it out sometime.

Karl Boyes on the team over Thorsten is/was the wrong pick. Thorsten, even before his recent run, has a much greater resume. All Karl has is a bigger mouth. Guess it got heard.

Corey should have been picked over Hatch but again it is obviously not the better players being chosen.
 
It is a critical time for international pool / TV coverage.
The Mosconi Cup first and for most needs to work commercially, competitively and financially, if not we may well see the end of it on TV.

Apart from the TOTAL SUPPORT from ALL of the POOL communities around the world, MATCHROOM have everything at its deposal to make it a success!

Being this is supposedly the 20th anniversary LEGENDS themed Cup, I believe a Euro legend is the next pick. Marketing of this anniversary is perhaps a bigger element to Matchroom's biz plan than most here can piece together.

They surely picked 52 year old Earl many months ago, before he was on a tear. They probably picked a Euro legend many months ago also.

I recall Daz saying in a recent Steinway chat that it was not Steve Davis ("He's not been playing") and then he name dropped Ron Mason as a possibility. I don't even know who Ron mason is. Does someone?
