Pool Maxims...

A pool maxim is a short statement expressing a general truth about some aspect of pool, or pool play. Please provide one (only one mind you, and not a list).
Doing so will not only help the new players among us, but can also be a reminder to many of us seasoned players whose memory may have slipped a cog, or two. I'll go first.

Maxim: Don't grip the pool cue too tightly. A tight grip can cause tension, and tension can impede a good stroke.

You mean something like???

Maxim: Grip it and rip it... A loose grip can hide flaws in your alignment and lead to inconsistency....

Sorry :groucho: I couldn't resist

Chris

Your pre-shot routine determines every outcome of the shot.

a + b = b + a (sorry, different forum), but remember that axioms by definition are so simple that they can't be proven or unproven.

Make every easy shot and make every shot easy.

Paralysis from analysis.

Centerball does it all.

If you don't stroke straight you shouldn't aim straight.

It's not the cue.

Pants up, head down.

Sorry Mitch, your disqualified. You made a list.

Tangent line...critically important ...so many uses. Gotta get it.

...for me, it was a true 'duh' moment:eek:...to start to have a much more predictable cue ball.

Edit: Changed post from a saying to a Maxim

Give every shot all due care and attention.

When it means everything, play as if it means nothing.

1. Stroke it, don't poke it.

2. Make all your decisions standing up.

Tramp, you're tough. Fair, but tough. Ever thought of being a moderator here?

BTW that Mattana bloke made a mini list. Two maxims. Maybe you can let him off with a warning, he does a lot for pool.

My maxim:

Learn where center ball will get you before you even think about spinning the ball.
