Who is going to win the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championship?

True

Good observations. Thorsten has had a cake-walk so far in this tournament. He hasn't run up against anybody strong -- yet. His next match with North Carolinian Keith Bennett should not be taken lightly, though. Keith has been hitting the pool circuit as of late, so he's in dead punch.

I agree that the field is weak compared to other Opens. Players like Thorsten, Shane, and Darren have a bye and then only have to win two matches to get to where they are on the chart on the winner's side.

That said, it is a legitimate title, and I think the title may be more important to the players than the money. The title is something they will have forever. :)

Your last paragraph is sadly true. Wouldn't it e nice to know that winning this event would be rewarded with life changing money? Sure, 30K is nothing to sneeze at, but that short money will soon be gone. The title's glory is all that will remain. Would be wonderful to see all the talented players come out of the wood work if first place was 6 figures. It's enough to make you go, hmmmmmmm.

I mentioned this in another thread, but I really think it's going to be Shane and Corteza in the finals with Shane coming out on top 13-9 (I'm assuming the finals are a race to 13 again)

How 'bout that Shorty D'Alfonso?! He gets a bye, then a forfeit, and wins one match to get to where he is in the chart. This year's Open is leaving the field wide OPEN, as its name implies, for anybody to claim this championship.

The cream rises to the top, as they say! :)

That's my long shot pick for the Open. He needs to have a good match vs LeeVan.

Shane is my horse though.

Shane and Darren are the favorites as multiple time winners of this event.

World nine ball champion Hohmann is having a great year, but was less than his best at Turning Stone. We'll see if he's still at his peak.

Rodney Morris' chances have to be taken very seriously given his win over what was surely the toughest field of the year on American soil at the US Open 10-ball.

China Open champion Lee Van Cortezza is a major title threat here.

Guessing one of these five snaps this tourney off.

Emerging stars Wang Can and Jayson Shaw are both candidates to reach the final day of the event.

Shorty

I am pulling for my good friend and roomate Tom "Shorty" D'Alfonso. He always plays well in the Open placing 9th last year and losing to world #2 Jung Lin Chang double hill to get eliminated. I am really hoping this is his year. He has a tough match against Lee Van Corteza today!

To call one name is difficult.
Daz, mika or toastie are my favs in this field.

Btw.: still a bit sad that my good old friend frank scharbach from germany lost 10:11 against kiamco.
With this trip to the us open he made s dream come through for him. He hasn t competed for sure for more than 15 years. He s running his own pool hall biz in my hometown wirking his ass off. His customers love him. About 95 % fun players there....no hustlers or gamblers at all. But always all tables booked. Speaks for him:thumbup:

Frank was for a long time nr. Ranked in germany before he quit playing tournaments and leagues and a feared money player. When i begun with pool i really looked up to him.
He still can shoot strong as it seems.
Hope he can show some more great pool in the loser bracket.

Have a smooth stroke

How about our own Oscar still on the winner's side. The kid's hitting 'em strong in recent times. Another man who's got a good women behind him.

I'm telling you, there's something about affairs of the heart that make a man strong. :grin-loving:

Chris Bartram has a tough match coming up with Niels Feijen. Niels, however, doesn't have the combat experience that Chris does. This one may come down to the break.

There's something about that name, "Danny Mastermaker," that reminds me of the man who put poker on the map in 2003, "Chris Moneymaker." I keep seeing Danny Mastermaker's name more and more in recent times. He might be the dark horse in the race.

Thank you for sharing this story about Frank. I had not heard of him before, but now that you have given us a little bit about who he is, I''m a new fan. :)

Here's a cute video snippet of him running 102 balls in 29 minutes ---> HERE

a good woman can do wonders.

Having a good woman in your life can do a lot of things. It can give you new motivation and new hope in life.
My woman made me a good reader, now I read books. I thought I would never like it. But, after she told me to stop playing pool, sold my cues to get her some jewellery I was kinda introduced to world of books. I also read a lot of pool books, now I can say I "theoretically" know how to make every shot and it's all because of her.
Some of you may think that she is bad for me, but that's not the case. When she is not high on meth she is wonderful. I don't think her last rehab helped her a lot. I guess she likes to party a little, cuz my neighbors tell me that they see guys coming in n out of my house all the time when i am not at home. But that's okay, cuz I would rather have her at home then out driving, cuz she already has 5 DUI's and she owe money to her x-bf who just happens to be a gang member.
I know she is an amazing woman, and she is a fighter too. I can tell by the way she punches me sometimes when I forget to feed one of her 5 cats. I am not a cat hater, it's just that between cleaning the house, making supper, doing two jobs and making sure that she not trying to cook meth I sometimes forget to feed the cats. I can't wait for her 3 kids to grow up, so that they can take care of cats. Sometimes I feel sorry for her kids, cuz they will never know who their dad was. I would also like to meet those 3 men just to see how stupid they can be to leave a wonderful woman like her.
I am truly blessed, and I feel lucky to have her in my life. For those of you who want to see how amazing my life is here is video of her coming home after 6 months of incarceration: - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ

Hey, Ratta, your man is currently leading, 5 to 2, in the B side of the charts. Looking good!

I'm calling Shane vs. Toastie finals.

Shane works hard to figure out the break and adapts quicker than the others.
He can play a little rough against someone who makes almost no mistakes (like vs. Shaheen)
and still win convincingly.

Toastie has crushed his first opponents 11-1 and 11-2 and seems extra-determined this year.

I have to admit Darren might wreck my plans, he's also demolished his first couple of opponents.

Thorsten had an easy draw, but what happens now is what will separate the lions from the lambs. It's starting to get exciting now! :p

There are a dozen that could win it. I'd like to see Shane, Earl, or Wong Can in that order win it. Johnnyt

Where in the heck is that vBookie? I'll bet he found an oatmeal cookie place and is forgetting to give us a chance to win some vCash. :D
