I posit that playing truly great pool can not be achieved without John Prine albums playing in the background. His unique approach blending harmony, humor and simplicity while addressing the profound unlocks the subconscious mind to play properly.

Also Primus.

Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Played in a pool room where they played Frank Sinatra all the time...

Got so I liked it..

And I did it MY way..:D

This reminds me of one time when music helped me win! I won the hot seat in a Viking Tour event in Winchester, VA. I had about an hour to wait before I would be playing the finals. When I saw the semi-finals were almost over, and that an older gentleman was likely going to win, I put about $20 into the TouchTunes machine. I loaded it with Eazy-E, Eminem, and about any other hard, fast, vulgar rap I could find and pressed "play now" for all of them.

Not only do I enjoy that music, but it as pretty clear that my opponent did not. The finals of the tournament lasted only one set and I was "in the groove" the entire time. Music definitely has a powerful effect on one's confidence and concentration.

I play primarily in two different rooms. One has music (fairly loud, but not too loud to me) and the other usually doesn't.

I find it easier to concentrate in the room with the music playing. Doesn't matter what's playing, I just like the noise level, allows me to not hear much of the chatter and conversation going on around me.

It helps that I'm no longer a music snob, so I don't really care what's playing. I have my favorites, of course, but between playing in bands and being on the radio as a DJ for many years, I'm not terribly concerned with hearing "my music" only, any longer.

Personaly, I like quiet. There is nothing better then the sounds of the table as you play. The tip on the cueball the click of the balls and the sound of a well hit ball going in the pocket. I swear there are players whose games actually sound better others. Mike Caralla would pocket a ball and you knew from across the room he was the one who hit it just from the sound. That is what I like to hear, not music covering up the beautiful sounds of the game.

when you are setting o.k.

but, if you are listing to music as you shoot, you are not concentrating enough on pool.
when i play for fun, and am just banging them around i love blues and jazz. but if i am in league or playing in tournaments, the music can be very loud, and when i am shooting i never hear it, my mind is totally on the table. when i am down over a ball i hear NOTHING !!!!!

Somebody's got a big brown beaver.

As long as it is not country music. I like some low background music that is not loud. I really like classic rock from the 70s and 80s.
