Rodney Morris Challenges the Top 25 European Players

I'm 95% percent sure it's going to be an all-around.

Probably one pocket, 8 ball, and 10 ball. Races to 8, 30, and 30.

A "Race to 1" (single elimination) is much more pressure than a marathon "Race to 11"

Here's the thing. I actually think a tournament with an international field that is, say one race to 11, single elimination. Is way more pressure than any gambling match.

If you lose in that tournament, you're done. To me, that's a lot of pressure. When you lose in a gambling match, you just reach into your pocket, or most likely your backer's pocket and continue to play.

Now with that being said, I don't agree that these single elimination/race to 11 formats can determine the best player. Only because luck is too much of a factor. However, I also don't think we need to go to the extreme of playing a race to 100.

A "Race to 1" (single elimination) is much more pressure than a marathon "Race to 11". Playing "Races to 1" you can't afford to make any mistakes and you better take each shot as if it's your last.....because it probably will be.

So the ultimate pressure would be gambling by the game :)

Yes, in his prime, Larry Lisciotti based some of his gambling philosophy on this idea. He often made an offer that any player could play him one rack of nine ball on a silly-tight table for $1,000, with a lag for break. Even when there were better players than him in the room, they tended not to bite, and rightly so, for Larry had a special ability to fade that kind of pressure and everybody knew it.

Not so sure Darren Appleton is a big fan of long races over three days playing American pool.

If memory serves me right, he played a few three day races to 100 with decent money staked
in the early games hosted by TAR (I think without success).

I'm sure he said afterwards that he felt the format didn't suit him.

A few weeks ago he posted on here he was looking for big money matches this year and would play anyone

Ha Ha, your best post ever! Some of us have been there or damn close.
When I beat the Biker dude out of all his money and his Harley and he called me outside, I was more than a little worried. I bet you've seen the light of day yourself.
Mike Carella bet his life and died. So did David Sizemore. Danny Medina faced down a man with a gun in his belly!

When Richie asked Cornbread to play a set for ten grand, Red said let's just play one game! Richie hit the exit!

That hasn't been reported to have kept anyone from watching the Superbowl, World Series, or golf tournaments.

95% of the world's population are not interested in the first two, and you can't get much more 'mainstream' than that.

The standard of reporting varies from country to country, obviously.

I'm not doubting his willingness (or ability) to step forward for big money matches.
I remembered he called the three days races to a 100 'brutal'. A format he said he
didn't enjoy.

I guess if you're not enjoying the format (and considering there's a sizeable amount riding on it),
you would be a fool to keep stepping up to three day races to 100.

A few years ago I was at a tournament and there was an English pool pro there, name of Alex Shennan.
Although it was a pool tournament Alex was deeply engaged in a card game. But he kept being pestered by a Young Gun to play for money.

Come on Alex let's gamble.
I'm playing cards.
Let's play pool
Go way (or words to that effect)
You're not a gambler then.

Alex reaches into his leather jacket and pulls out a roll that would choke a horse.
From his stack he picks up a coin.

That's three grand there. You want to gamble?
Heads or tails?

Another time Alex was due to play in a televised tournament. He arrived at the venue ten minutes before his match on a booming motor cycle. He entered the venue carrying a plastic shopping bag from which he extracted a screwed up tuxedo, dress shirt and a tie. Then changing out of his bikers leathers he picked up his cue and walked out into the arena.

They don't make them like that any more. Or do they?.

2nd behind Bartram. What's the format? I searched JCIN's posts, no mention. I went to www.theactionreport.com - no mention. Is vagabond letting the kat out of the bag? I'm guessing it's a 27, 27, 27 all around. Daz doesn't prefer long ones so much, and TAR has gone to this all around lately.

Justin?

(this would be awesome)

Daz told me about his schedule and I was not paying attention to absorb everything he said. He told me two times and I still don`t remember the details. He gave the dates of his trip to China ( end of Decembe) and will be coming back to Las Vegas directly from China. I don`t know what game and how much money etc .I did not ask for the details. I have vague memory of what he told me. I may be wrong about TAR but I definitely remember the name of the person he is playing. He told me this when we were going to dinner along with some family and friends.
